Hi Hanaan! For a new knitter you are doing an impressive job with all of your projects. I really enjoyed your sock talk. I'm deep into socks right now as it is so hot outside I can't stand any big projects on my lap. Looking forward to your next episode! Best wishes from Margaret (My Wonderful Knitting Life podcast).
Thank you all so much for the support on my very first podcast video! You’ve welcomed me into the online knitting community with such open arms! So many of you have left lovely comments of encouragement and advice. I’ve read them all and appreciate every single one of you! I’ll be back soon with more knits! xx
Hi Hanaan, congratulations on your new youtube adventure. I applaud you jumping into knitting socks and for being so successful! I am currently knitting my husband a pair of socks and thoroughly enjoying the process. I am afraid to do an afterthought heel. Can you tell me whose method you used?thanks.
@@adriennerichter8971 Thank you! Socks are so fun. I’m glad you’re enjoying the process :) I used the afterthought heel method by Crazy Sock Lady here on youtube. Great tutorial!
Your socks are just precious, I just want them all ! And do give sewing a try when you get a chance, I'm still quite a beginner sewist but it is really nice and fun in addition to knitting ! A whole new range of crafting that I am sure you could pick up quite easily, at least enough for you to have fun with it !
Kudos to you for becoming such an accomplished knitter so quickly! A couple of sock tips for you: try knitting them toe-up, two at a time. No chance of second sock syndrome. Where you’re done, you’re done! The toe-up method using Judy’s Magic Cast On is a pleasure once you get the hang of it, and there is no grafting to do at the end. I also use the shadow wrap heel, which is super-easy and produces a great fit. And lastly, buy yourself the Chiaogoo Mini sock needles. Their cord is nano-thin, and it’s almost impossible to produce a ladder when doing Magic Loop. Buy their 37” cord too, which gives you a total 47” length of cord when you have the 5” needles attached. This gives you plenty of room when you have 2 socks on the needles. Enjoy!
Thank you for all these tips :) I will look into toe up socks and the shadow wrap heel! I have the Chiaogoo mini circulars and I exclusively knit all my socks with them! I love them so much.
It’s hard to believe you’ve only been knitting 6 months!!!!!! What an accomplishment it took me well over a year when I first started knitting! Great job look forward to more episodes!!! Welcome to the knitting podcast world
About the underarm holes: you can just take a bit of yarn and pull the stitches together on the wrong side. It's very much invisible on the right side and wearing the piece for a while will cause some pilling or felting in high impact areas. Which helps these parts become a bit more solid :)
Great podcast, Hannah! You are incredibly talented! I’m blown away at your no pattern socks and having only recently begun knitting. It is in your DNA my dear❤❤❤
hei hei! Congrats with your amazing podcast :) hope to see more soon 🥰 uau! your yellow socks are so pretty! can't believe that that was your first sock and without following a pattern! i'm amazed! you are a natural ☺☺ loved everything! you're cardigan is perfect! i like the color a lot and think it suits you :) this cardigan has been on my project list for ages, but still not on my needles 😅 thank you for sharing this books. didn't really know any of them and got curious about them :) nice wishes and all the best to you channel.
Those rust coloured socks are so smooth. That makes me want to start knitting socks again. Did you know there’s a way to knit both socks at once? You need 2 circular needles 😊
Thank you! Happy to be an inspiration! I've knit a pair of socks two at a time using the magic loop method and I really didnt like how fiddly it was. I think I will knit two at at a time going forward using two mini circulars and knitting parts of them consecutively. If that makes any sense!
Hi, Hanaan! Great first podcast, and I’m floored by how short a time you’ve been knitting. Your socks are fabulous, and I love your Champagne Cardigan! Keep up the great work. You are definitely a “natural”…! P.S. I love Summer’s podcasts, too. She has a great sense of humor!
Your Champagne Cardigan looks amazing! 🧶 For the underarm holes, I just use the tail or leftover yarn to close up the holes. Great first episode. I post knitting videos as well, so I know the struggle. But you did fantastic! 👏🏾
Hi Hanaan! Although I am not a knitter (I crochet) I was instantly drawn by your name. I am also a Wedderburn, but from Barbados🇧🇧. Great to see that there are others out there 😃 Of course I subscribed.
i love all of the color combos on your socks!! i highly recommend learning the old norwegian cast on (it’s known by many names, but that’s the one i know)! it’s extremely similar to long tail and just as rhythmic and very stretchy. perfect for cuff down socks
Yes, I watched a few videos of people making socks here on YT and figured I’d just give it a go! I felt like I understood the general construction of a cuff down sock to try. I made many mistakes on my first sock and had to rip back many times but the second one flew of the needles thanks to my notes! As for the underarm holes, some people told me I can close them with the with some scrap yarn. I have no idea how to do that and will need to do my research. It’s frustrating because I picked up extra stitches to prevent the gaps but it still happened! 😵💫
You’ve inspired me to try folded down cuffs for socks! Good luck closing up the holes! Let me know if you find a good method - I’ve just been winging it and hoping it isn’t too noticeable 🙃
If you like the after thought heel but the fit of a heel flap and gusset you may like the Simple Shortbread Socks by Lindsey Fowler. She has an amazing design that helps that fit. I took a class last March with her and she is lovely
Hi Hanaan, I’m so impressed by how evenly you knit for being a relatively new knitter! Well done! You have absolute great taste and I love your creations. Just last night I finished my champagne cardigan in a pretty similar colour to yours and I’m sooo looking forward to wearing it. Can’t wait for more videos to come. Woolly greetings from Germany 🤗
Hi Hannan! Your Summer Lee socks are just so beautiful! You are a very talented knitter, the fabric in your socks look so even, like you've knitted for ages. I can't wait to see what you knit in the future 😊
*me watching this episode*: yes so cute.. omg yes.. I relate.. YES I’m also a relatively new knitter and made my first pair of socks last November. Now I’m fully obsessed, I’ve made 16 pairs this year so far. And I also love Summer Lee and her podcast and her book. And I also got the Folk Socks book!! Your knits are beautiful, btw ❤
