Your modules are attractive in appearance and sound. These comparison videos are helpful to highlight differences between module characteristics as you do with Germanium VCA vs Nuvistor here. Very cool. I do think I favor the warmer rubbery Germanium in this experiment. Curious why you do not use Balanced Stereo Output module? Any advantage to using Phones module as output in this application? Currently researching assembling a small system with the L-1 Balanced Output as my output module, elegantly simple quality without extra fluff or clutter at a great price point.
There are balanced outputs at the back of the case. Input module for them is at the right top corner. The Phones modules is possible to use as output too, but it's not balanced. I fed there my headphones.
Veery nice..hmm, I think the Germanium sound is still my favorite in some ways. I'm not sure why exactly. It sounds kind of like a more intense and complex version of the minimoog VCA. Gotta get myself one of those eventually!
Sounds great. Nice to know I'm using your VCO correctly as well (my default in most patches is to use mainly the sine out first in LFO mode, and then occasionally to switch to audio rates for craziness). Now make an L-1 quality performance mixer with cv controllable sends :)
I love your synthesizer designs, and have built a substantial amount of your DIY-lineup (2x VC stereo mixers, 2x Stereo Mixers, Unity mixer, 2x Dual VC ADSR's, a Basic VCO, Quad VCA/Mixer, the old Mutant Cure VCF and a 2180 VCF. Not far from the full lineup! Anyways, I've been lusting over the Quad VC Resonant EQ for a good while. How does this differ from the DIY version? I notice the DIY version have dip switches for Resonance while it's labelled "oscillate" on the built version. The built version have a "Resonator" switch as well as bypass and input level and a slightly different i/o section. What is the difference between the dip switches between the two versions? Does the "Resonator" switch on the built version add a feature not available on the DIY version? I was under the impression that both can be used as both equalizer and something akin to a 4-voice oscillator with all bands set to high resonance. As a side note: I am understanding the move towards new modules just being available as fully built modules from a sales perspective, but as a DIY'er I am sad that none of your newer designs are available for purchase as pcb/panel. Really hoping you'll continue releasing new module designs for us DIY'ers as well! <3
Thank you! Your L-1 lineup impressed. DIP switches do the same at both models - turn the device into resonance oscillation. I renamed it to 'oscillate' for better understanding what they do. Yes no Resonator mode in DIY. But are individual ins/outs for each channel. They are mutually exclusive things. To make Resonator mode I placed channels in parallel when in DIY module they are in series.
@@L-1 Aha! So I could put a DIY version into the retail versions "Resonator" mode by routing the input signal through a mult to each band input of the EQ, and sum each band output together on the other side?
I will try to make a bit smaller. Because tuner screen is not needed. The VCO usually used with FM when the frequency rapidly changes, than the tuner shows nothing. To set initial note is better to use the tuner as separate module.
@@L-1 I will try to keep my GAS on line and wait for your Discrete TZ VCO, you are right, the screen is not actually needed; you could put on the front the Octave switch and some other complex outputs, maybe ^^ Anyway, I will wait for your redesign. BTW, are you going to make black panels for all your modules? I do own seven of your modules so far, it could be awesome to upgrade them to black version.
Perfect! Is this version 2.0 of your tuner module? Do you have any in stock? Does it happen to tell you what octave you are in? How do I contact you about purchasing one? Very interested!! Thanks.
I hope to make them ready for sale in 2-3 months. I post news into FB Usergroup. Please join. facebook.com/groups/l1usergroup Also you can write me an email and join to the waitlist. Then I will send youy a letter when ready for sale. info@greenexpo.by
there's a bit of a metallic ring (particularly noticeable on the upper end of the frequency spectrum) when you're using this effect, can that possibly be dealt with? It sounds really good but removing that metallic ringing would make it sound incredible.
There were two saw waves used in carrier. One at low frequency, another at high frequency. That high frequency saw wave creates metallic tone. Also it went to clipping at some sss sounds. Next time I will make without that high wave.
🔥 Great beat! That Akai looks like an orphan at a rich kid’s party… And the best part is that it’s so strange to think that if anyone asked you “where did you get all that gear?” You just reply “I made it..” That’s just f$&@ing nuts!
Dual is the same as the Quad, just less channels. I'm going to make a video soon with the Dual where I will cut frequency stripes from a bass to place there into these stripes a kick drum.
