I think the best way to train for this method (short of pouring your own concrete balls) is to use progressively heavier dead balls at the gym. I’m not sure they go up 100 lb, but this would be just to practice the technique.
The Dutch call this technique the 'Apenhang'. There are some excellent tutorials if you know what to search for. This tutorial is great for learning the basic technique, but there are some more great tips out there to climb faster and more efficient. For example, if you extend from the hips and reach further by rotating your trunk, you won't have to use your arms so much to pull yourself forward.
Thanks, I'll try it next time. The interesting part is that you can't exercise it at home or in gym as you don't have big round stones like that, so you'll only see on the race if it's working or it's falling down on the backside. 😁
I can do this very well in training, but the one used on the actual course is way too slippery and I can't get a foot grip on the wall. I need a hack for that
After 3 1/2 years of absence from the gym due to Covid-19, now I’ve started gym again. Besides strength building, I’m working on rotator cuff exercises. Is there any risk of hurting the rotator cuffs in rope climbing?
This might be a stupid question, but is a kids baseball different in it's rigidity from a normal baseball? Mine collapses, when I try to hang from it..
Funny thing. What you say to avoid "hooking your legs onto the rope and pulling with the arms" is the way I do it. Not only that, but I am usually the fastest person on it. I can usually get across in about 12 seconds. I know because my wife has filmed me. LOL! If you have long pants on, I recommend doing it that way.
I've done it once at my only Beast las month and saw most runners doing it your way. I did it that way and it was fastest, but I did get a decent rope burn through my sock. I do think it takes a fair bit of upper body muscle endurance to get it done. Aroo!
Son-of-a-B! Why didn’t I see this before my last race! This is the technique for me. That orangutan swinging technique just doesn’t work for me. I can do hand-to-hand like this. I’m working on the hand-to-hand for the Monkey Bars as well. This is gold! Thanks!
Extending the arms and leaning back is great... until your feet slip from the mud wall, you faceplant into the wall, and bc you're tall your feet hit the ground and it's a fail.
First time doing a spartan race stadion in July and aiming for a sprint in October. This first race really motivating me to train hard and consistent, i think we all need a challenge once in a while to see what we are made of.
