This is disappointing. I thought the Battery Tender chargers were pretty good quality. Apparently not. My Junior charges at 750 ma but will not back off when the battery is fully charged. The charger gets very warm and the led never turns green, blinking or solid. I might try replacing the capacitor as recommended in another RU-vid video.

I have a one of these chargers from 1998 and it is still working great; unfortunately it seems quality has tanked over the years like so many other items.

I have the same machine, same experience, including operating with my foot sometimes. I split multiple cords per season to heat the house. It can split large rounds by nibbling at the edges first. Not great at really knotty rounds, but you do the best you can. Harbor Freight has a latching 120V foot switch. It's great to use it with the splitter instead of clicking the power button between rounds. Given how much I do, I would probably look for a larger and faster one, but this unit does the job!

Seems fine for those who just like to enjoy a backyard fire or casual fireplace ambience... which would be me. If you're someone who relies on having massive stacks of wood to heat your home or whatever, then obviously it's not for you, although it would be perfect for splitting kindling/starter wood

My 7-yr-old Battery Tender Junior Smart Battery Charger just stopped working. It is not charging even though it still shows that everything is fine. If I disconnect one of the charging lines, the LED indicator would flash red light indicating it's not hooked up properly. If all lines are hooked up correctly it shows charging with a solid red indicator. But the charge never turned green, or flashing green, even after a week on an originally 75% charged battery with 12.45V from the beginning. I hooked up a multi-meter and it shows the charger outputs of the same voltage as the 12V battery, and 0 charging current. That means that the charger can test the 12V battery's voltage but provides zero charging output.

I have the same newer unit and it operates on a switched mode power supply. The older models had a real heavy power transformer inside, which run forever. You can compare the difference in weight of your 20-year old charger and the new one. Good video! Thanks for the info.

So I have this exact player and I also purchased it at Best Buy last August. I like the size of the unit as it fits almost anywhere in your electronics arrangement and also like the price point! I absolutely see no reason why 4K players should cost any more than $300. From August until January of this year, the player worked and played perfectly, without any issue whatsoever. However, from January until now, this player has had issues with seven different 4K Blu-ray movie discs. It has had freezing issues, pixelation issues and even has shut down on me several times. The problem usually happens about 3/4 of the way through each movie. They have all been brand new movies without any scratches etc. sometimes I was able to rewind the movie or skip back a couple scenes and then replay the scenes and it would work OK, but in most cases the machine would shut down and the movie would continue to freeze or pixelate with nothing but issues. I spent several weeks researching the Internet on RU-vid, Google and Reddit, only to find out these issues are very common with this player and a lot of other 4K players on the market. It is extremely frustrating and irritating to deal with this problem as in the past when I had a regular Blu-ray player I never had any issues whatsoever. Through some of my research I took some advice with some of the comments I have read in the Reddit posts And made a change in the player settings menu which seem to help me get through three straight 4k movies without any issue, so I thought the problem had been remedied! However on the fourth fifth and sixth movie after the change in the settings, the freezing issue came back along with pixelation issues. I have called Sony customer service several times and it took nearly 2 weeks to finally get them to send me a return label to send it back and get a replacement, but I am not confident at all that the replacement will be free of issues. I believe because it tends to happen at the same place during the movies that it has something to do with the layering on the disks and the laser not being able to read the disk correctly or something! Hopefully when the new unit comes it will work without issue but if it doesn’t I will have to try to get a refund and I guess fork out money for a more expensive player or just not have a player anymore. It seems to me this day and age they should have a 4K player that works without issue or all of them should work without issue especially coming from Sony

Just bought one to replace my 8-year-old Panasonic 1080P player. Bought it at Best Buy for $149, I like the fact it came with an HDMI cable saving me $25 or so. Now I need a few 4K Blu-Ray discs of movies I want to own and have on hand for the future. I received a $100 gift card from BB after buying a new 85" Samsung 4K UHD tv, so I was OTD for $49.95 plus tax. As soon as I connected it to my network it found and downloaded an SW update so I assume I'm as current as I can be. Is there any way I can confirm that?

You can get a 4-way splitter head (I have one), but at 7 tons it does not work with many rounds. It's easy to slide on and off, so you can try it with your round, then quickly go back to the normal splitter if the 4-way doesn't work.

Nice video, my compliments! The wood you split was an old aged round. I would have also liked to see how it does with a green juicy round! HA Ha....I have the 5-ton HF machine and have split many cords of wood over the past 10 years with it. And I agree, it will do a lot more than what the manufacturer recommends. Since mine has a hold it to keep it on type switch, I just bought a $2 bar clamp from HF and clamped it in the on position, I then use the plug as my on/off switch. You did not mention, does your unit have a two position speed on your handle....half way down for faster and all the way down for slow and stronger? I run it up until touching, then go slow and strong until the wood cracks, then back to half way position to speed through the split. Makes the work go a little bit faster. And I have split logs that same size but green red oak. Now that I am older, 73, I prefer to split in half those larger pieces with my HF 10 ton manual hydraulic splitter, and then lift the halves to split them on the electric, easier on the old back!

how do you get plastic piece out from the ram mine got stuck under the ram?
@electricalmechanicaldiyguy7048
When mine broke it was kind of sticking out halfway and was still jammed under the ram but didn’t effect how it worked. After some more use it did eventually just come out from under the ram. Haven’t had any problems with how it works now that it’s out. I wouldn’t worry about it and just keep splitting.

Also having the same problem with the same unit. The first indication was that an older battery in the vehicle had the Battery Tender Plus on it during winter storage. When spring came, I went to start the vehicle, but the battery was dead. I assumed that the battery had reached the end of its life, so I purchased a new battery, installed it in the vehicle and hooked up the Battery Tender Plus for the weekend to top up the battery. The following week, I again went to start the vehicle, battery was dead and there was battery acid all over the floor under the engine compartment. The battery had boiled dry, and of course was not covered by warrantee due to misuse. Both led lights were lit at the same time continuously, which I now assume means that the Battery Tender was still charging (red light on), even though the green light was still on (battery fully charged).

I got the 5 ton just a few days ago.. I couldnt find the 7 ton in my area and I didnt want to wait for order.... I love splitting by hand but it dont love me.. I have a army injury and other major health problems, so I am limited on what I use to be able accomplish with ease... My first day using the 5 ton,,, I can say my only complaint was that I didnt buy it sooner..... I split a half a face cord in about 30 minutes... it would have taken me all day with breaks to do that by hand given my health issues.. I would caution people though,,, wear safety glasses and if the unit requries 2 hands to operate,, buy the footswitch because I had a couple logs pop out with some force behind it.. If it caught you wrong,, that would leave a mark and could definitely take out an eye,, bloody a lip or nose... You need to have a hand free to protect yourself and guide the logs.... Other than that,,,, I am literally thrilled with mine... Oh,, and dont operate it with the bleed screw out,,, just back it out about 5 or 6 full turns.. otherwise your fluid will squirt out under load...

I have the batter tender junior battery charger and I just bought it a year ago. And for some reason the red light will not turn green. I check the battery with my Multimeter And it's showing me that it's 12 to 13 V. According to the meter the battery is fully charged so if the battery is fully charged why isn't the light turning green on my battery tender charger?

Yes, I did call them and they told me to send back the one that wasn’t working so I did. They tested it and told me it was working just fine. I asked if they actually tried to charge a battery with it and they hadn’t. When they did hook it up and try to charge a battery they were able to see that it wasn’t working. They did send me a new unit. Overall I was pleased with the outcome and they were easy to deal with I just would have lii in me it better if checked it out the first time like I described to them but ultimately it was resolved.

First it is an electric motor driven, not electronic and not an engine!. Second, you did not state the source of where you got it, but it looks like one of many of the Chinese electric-hydraulic units, sold by Harbor Freight. They advertize theirs as 6 ton, but who cares and it does work well. Have had mine for 7 years now and split many cords of firewood with it. It is a bit slow, but heck, I am 72 years old. It works well. Have mine mounted on a stand, and on the opposite side of where I stand, I have a table to catch the splits so I do not need to bend over to pick them up. Mine works well on green wood as well as dry wood. Mine is the two hand operation type and I just bought a small adjustable wood C clamp and clamped the button on, and just use the plug to turn it on and off. I do not like the automatic off switch yours has.
@electricalmechanicaldiyguy7048
@electricalmechanicaldiyguy7048 3 года назад
Yes, I agree, it is an electric motor, I misspoke. I purchased my splitter directly from BOSS Industrial, made in Naperville, IL. It has a manual shut off switch, not automatic, and I too was concerned that it wouldn’t hold up well. But after about a years worth of moderate use it has held up well.

I've only used my Boss for one day, but it was great. I'll be using it again today. I have the stand but haven't put it on yet. I'm thinking of just designing a table setup to use, which will enable me to stand the unit in a corner vertically for storage. Can't do that with the tall stand attached. Either way, it splits just the way I hoped it would.
