The traffic is horrible. Almost everyone has a dented car. No fault auto insurance, mean higher premiums. (Prayers for those attempting to make a left hand turn. ) Just about every farm is now a subdivision or apartment complex. What used to be a wonderful town has outgrown its infrastructure. If you have conservative values, the town goes out of it's way to make you unwelcome.

Worst traffic anywhere. When we drive across country on vacation and come back, we are reminded that traffic (and drivers) in Lexington are the worst. Weather is the worst of all situations. Bitter cold and scorching hot. Sometimes in the same day. Overpriced and underperforming educational system. School board out of control. Delusional regarding downtown and people's interest in going there. Recent Woke wave. My family moved to Lexington in 1973. There were some years that it was a nice place to be. I finally had it and moved to Versailles nine years ago. Upon retirement, we plan to leave the state. People talk about a lower cost of living, but I never found it.
You know Kentucky people are a different kind of people , Some people move into the area and love it and others can't wait to leave . One thing she didn't mention is southern charm , Kentucky people are friendly chatty people , of course there those who just go about there own business and wish to be left alone . but for the most part people are easy going , front porch sitting kind of people . Myself I was born and raised south of Lexington in a small town called Corbin . To expand on what she said about the basketball team The Cats , it's more than just a basketball game or team , its a community and You have to go to at least one game and see the Cats live , it's a unforgettable experience . I now live in the Philippines now , but yet every year look forward to watch The Big Blue Nation play . I would say it takes a special kind of person to call Kentucky home .

I'm a huge fan of the Kentucky Wildcats! Originally, I'm from Harlan, KY. Upon high school graduation, I moved to Murray, KY for college at Murray State. After college graduation, I moved to Orlando, FL. I loved Orlando, but after a decade, I had a job offer in Fort Myers and couldn't pass it up. Fort Myers was absolutely terrible! It was Trump country and full of ultra-conservatives. Then, I had a job offer from UK. While Lexington has beautiful areas, the weather isn't great. It's either too hot or too cold. Again, there were too many conservatives in the area and too many religious nut-jobs. I found that if I ventured outside of city limits, it was unbearable. So, I moved to Fort Lauderdale and work at the University of Miami. The only areas that I have ever lived that I've loved has been Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. If you are an ultra-conservative that is ignorant and believe in magic bible stories, then Lexington may be for you. For me, that wasn't the case. I can still visit Lexington for a few games, then get the Hell out of there after the final horn sounds.
@@shawnlong4039 Fort Lauderdale is a beautiful place! I also love to vacation in Fort Myers. I used to travel with my previous employer and sometimes travel to Harlan. The mountains of eastern KY are beautiful, especially in the fall!
WTF is up with Kentucky charging an arm and a leg for tags? Also, if i move there with my new car, they are going to rape me based on blue book value. This is a ridiculous and dated policy.
This was a beautiful area until you all started chipping everything up into houses Everybody move on in here from everywhere now the normal local people can hardly afford to live around here anymore
@@maryreynolds3199I do live here, and I have definitely seen the immigrants. The fact that you haven’t, tells me you probably live in Hamburg or Beaumont. Drive to the other parts of town, you will definitely see them.
Drive down Winchester Rd, Versailles Rd, Woodhill, Russell Cave near NCR, S LimeStone, etc etc. And don’t just look for Latino immigrants, the African and Haitian immigrants are plentiful as well.
@@maryreynolds3199 you must not leave your home often. I was in a Lexington ice cream shop, myself and the person working there were the only English speaking people in a crowded shop. Go sit at the Fayette mall for a while, count how many different languages you hear. Visit the North side of town.
Just to add some important information taxes here are excessive property taxes are excessive run-down shopping malls some stores close due to their a/c inop and don't want to fix them. Many citizens are on food stamps and govt. asst. A large number of people drink and smoke here everywhere you go some is smoking near you. Cars and houses are run down covered in mold and mildew and a black fungus from the distilleries. Unfortunately I had to move here because of a very sick relative Once they pass I plan on moving out.
I have lived in Frankfort KY since 1991. There are a lot of new stores and restaurants the last 10 years. Most work for state government, second is likely public and private school staff, and third is probably bourbon distilleries. Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam have big old distilleries, along with several smaller ones. The angel share fungus has a black color and looks bad but is harmless. About once a year I need to wash the black fungus off the roof of my car, not a big deal. We are close enough to easily drive to Lexington or Louisville for stores or events, but far enough away so property here costs less. The limestone rock underground causes very few swampy areas, so there are very few mosquitoes. Some are involved in the horse industry- my wife does horse insurance, and I work for state government doing map and photo research for old coal mine areas to the east and west. Some do move to Tennessee for lower taxes and a milder winter. If you can afford it, good idea to go somewhere farther south for January or February, and avoid the southern areas when they are hotter and more humid July and August. It is unusual Kentucky often has a Democratic governor but Republican Senators like McConnell.
@jeffruebens8355 you are right, Frankfort is growing some in the past several years but definitely not as much growth as some cities see. If you are from Frankfort you do realize the mildew from the distilleries that grows on vinyl and settles on cars. It is part of life in Bourbon Country!
Lexington is nice if: you locate carefully, don’t work 9-5 job, have a nice savings account ( wealthier the more love you get from health & court system, you may need to sue your “provider”), retail sales and restaurant service), and can afford a limo driver if you want to keep your sanity! KY: Lex - don’t give signals, we ride your bumper and change lanes and merge(often without insurance), we drive dark vehicles without lights in rain, early morning and whenever lights should be on. Cell phone face is the new Southern Style. Ask any one of ten people where the continents Are, who was elected for “hanging chads”, how much an open border costs, where did the “flu” go, all for a laugh!
Folks, remember that you're watching a realtor here. The biggest con she neglected to mention is the horrendous traffic flow. You will get NOWHERE in Lexington quickly. The brilliant idea of building a circle around the place with 5 spokes to get in and out of town...not so brilliant. So if you enjoy driving in a "parking lot" all the time... Then there is her point regarding "new construction inside New Circle Rd...once you get outside New Circle, you start running into horse farms, which are hallowed ground. Basically, they are packing 3 Tons of manure into a 1 ton truck.
Like most metro areas these days. ....and thank God for the horse industry tempering the growth of today's vinyl villages. Traffic and sprawl could be much worse.
@@kellydoyle7833 After 10 years military and 10 years traveling all over the country for work, I have lived in or driven in most "metro areas", and I can say with utmost confidence that considering it's small size, Lexington is THE WORST place to drive that I've encountered. I spent 16 years there, and when I go back to visit my granddaughters, it only takes me about 10 mins on the roads there to remember why I HAD to get out. Nicholasville Rd between New Circle & MOW is an absolute trainwreck.
I'm originally from Houston Texas and their traffic is way worse. There are side streets for the regular streets. You can not get lost in Lexington I know because when I first moved here I tried to get lost. I know that sounds crazy. I used to do Lyft and there is a way around traffic trust me it can happen. Just depends on the time of day.
People, the grass doesn't look blue when the wind blows. It's called bluegrass because if you let it grow it has blue flowers. So quit saying that. Please
Kentucky is a right-to-carry state. Meaning you can legally carry a concealed firearm without a license or permit. It's also an open carry state. Don't freak out when you see groups of people walking around with guns on their hip. Perfectly legal. Medical marijuana will be legal soon. Recreational marijuana is legal up the road in Cincinnati. Our governor Andy Beshear is a useless pile of crap. Seriously.
Yes I'm looking at a home under $200,000 for me and my wife to retire at My credit is currently 829 & we were raised frugal and we're looking for a nice neighborhood with European people that we can live in a safe neighborhood All we care about is spending time together and eating good food we're not into fine dining I'm a chef because I grew up in an Italian restaurant so I could appreciate your help and locating a place in Central Kentucky and in a very low crime area it's Paramount! I grew up in Miami Florida and it turned into a cesspool! My families restaurant was even burnt down in 1980 riots in Miami! I'm very careful where I'm going to be buying and when I get out of this hell hole in Mesa,Az of 120°! 😂 Currently renting our first apartment in Mesa after my divorce and we're quite mobile! I would like to keep our investments working for us and get a zero interest loan, with no prepayment penalty,for 30 years which we should have no problem with with our credit rating! I love the way the vintage houses are built and I would never buy a new house made of "chicken wire" stucco! Please email us homes under $200,000 that are well made, square footage under 2,000! I agree with her comments. The allergies can be mitigated with local honey. Just like everywhere else. The biggest con for me, in the 2 yrs I lived there (05-07) was the aggressive push for LGBTQ inclusion. It was, I felt, very in your face millant! I moved to Ashland, KY and it is now becoming the same. I won't even go into the homeless situation in both cities. Maybe Wyoming for my next move.
Cry me a river yes Lexington makes equality a priority, and since I live in Jackson Hole part of the year I can say the same goes for Wyoming. maybe you should think about moving to a country where it is criminalized, like Botswana or Kenya. your archaic way of thinking would probably fit better with 3 world standards anyway.

It's run by Democrats. That should be enough. Good thing more country people vote. Drugs, gangs, home invasion, streets painted rainbow colors, murder rates through the roof. The rent started going through the roof 6 years ago. Good people are Fleeing out just like California. Do your research before putting yourself and your family in danger. KY IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. Look at Anderson Communities. I'm in the business. Lots of work here. Latinos make up around 11-12 % of population and are very prominent in construction, landscaping and agriculture. The horse industry is also a unique economic driver.
