Everyone is expecting too much from this young man. Let him find his own way and maybe, just maybe he will show you what he is made of.😊 Good luck to you Charlie. 😊
Well, if you watched the Men's President Cup, There were 5 Koreans (Min Woo Lee is a second generatin Korean-Australian). It's happening in the PGA tour as well. We will see more male Korean players very soon.
In the 80s and 90s I would play and practice at the Chick Corica golf complex in Alameda Ca. As time went on you would see lots of young asian girls practicing and getting lessons usually with their fathers watching in attendance. Several went on to play college gold and one went pro. In contrast, you rarely saw non-asian girls out there and never any asian boys getting the same grooming.
Korean dominance is slowing waining off re the top end talent - the rest of Asia is catching up. Notably Japan and Thailand. If you go 100 deep, Korea will always he unstoppable, because of the strength of their domestic tour. Many of their top end players dont even have goals of playing on the LPGA anymore.
That’s the one thing I hate about the golf community (and it’s a giant one) The fact that so many are strictly conservative and look down on people with different viewpoints makes them way more toxic than they realize
What do you mean ‘now’, they’ve been dominating for well over the last decade? Sure, Nellie Korda has done extremely well this year, but she’s really the only non Asian to do so. Some of the other Americans that have done well have an Asian heritage.
Golfers from Thailand are now making their mark. Thai culture is more relaxed than Korea or Japan. None of that hard studying. So why are Thai golfers winning championships?
Great video thank you. I’ve wondered for some time why Asian men don’t have the same dominance and you explained that well. Asian men are smaller in stature and therefore cannot hit the ball as far which is more important in the men’s game. I’m a little disappointed you didn’t mention Karrie Webb, with the exception of Annika Sorenstam, Karrie has the most LPGA wins in the modern era with 41 victories. Aside from Annika, Karrie is the only non American in the all time top 10 winners list of the LPGA. I thought that would have been worth a mention. Thanks for the video.
I do not believe that either player were ruined by David Leadbetter. I believe that their Korean culture demands hard work, and both players saw success with David. The pressure of being in the spotlight and the rigorous training schedules took a toll on them. Lydia won a lot of tournaments under David. Lydia left David and couldn't find that success after changing caddies, coaches and equipment over and over. She finally went to Sean Foley who helped her get back to being successful again. Being a talented child prodigy takes a toll on a person with everything that goes with it. To blame David after all the success Lydia had under his direction IMO is unfair. Michelle suffered many injuries, but she was golfing for many years at a very young age. I don't think you can actually say David was to blame.
11 million people can't b wrong u are the best at what u do so don't change what ure doing.Dont give those trolls the time of day there all ass##les .Everything will turn out fine for u paige❤
In Korea; when you are an athlete; one's entire life is commited to the craft. Its just the way Korean culture is. Very minimal school/education. Complete do or die for atheltes. Unlike America; school education and sport has to be equal priority
I've never been a smoker, but if Charley wants to smoke out in the open air, while playing golf and it is LPGA legal, more power to her. Girl power, freedom of choice. Go Charley!
Well said. I am a Korean male and proud to be one. One of my cousins who is also Korean went to UC Berkeley (do not wish to give out name) with full scholarship and now his on the PGA tour. A lot of discipline and a lot of work. Well done.
Something like 2000 plus girls on plus handicaps in South Korea 😳 they are so calm and disciplined, I don’t mind where the women come from, great to watch
There's also a but of a culture thing. Asian girls seem to enjoy hitting balls and improving their swing and find tue game interesting. Most western women think it's kind of a dumb game and don't take it seriously.
Because our women had a head start with freedom here… now other countries have free women too. Now it’s going to come down to skill and hard work. I doubt our ladies can stay near the top for much longer.
Only partly correct - only the obvious - it is much more than that. Just for a start - in Korea talented juniors are kept on the driving ranges for years honing their swings and techniques - they have to 'earn' being allowed to play on a real golf course - and they continue doing that. In Japan and Thailand and China it is the same - the girls have to earn their way up the chain - nothing is given and they accept being driven to succeed - most western girls do not and will not accept that. The second main issue is mental toughness and commitment - that is genetic and endemic in Asia - that is why more and more American LPGA Pros are Asian Americans. Most western girls are spoilt and self-centred - they are treated like Princesses and they do not have a clue about self-sacrifice - and that is what it takes to be successful on a Pro tour. Getting back up when knocked down, and accepting things dont always go your way, is something Asian women have inside them from a young age. There are some other reasons too - but that is enough. 5/10.
That doesn't make any sense. Korea has like 50 mio people, Japan 120, and both are very old countries. While China has 1.4 billion people, most of them will never see a golf course. And the rest of Asia doesn't matter much, because people playing golf belong to the top 0.5% of the income distribution. So if you compare the pool of young women who can play golf in Asia vs the US, there is not much difference in the overall number. The main difference, as mentioned, is work ethics. And as the video also explains, the equation for male golfers is quite different.
Nope...only a matter of time before Asia watched up. China #2 economy, Japan # 4, India # 5...Look at what South Korea has done in a short period. Look at the Thai girls.
Except that theory doesnt really hold because American men are doing fine in golf. Americans excel on the men's side of golf and have for a long time. And actually this video overplayed the point. Sure Women in Asian countries have improved as the game got more popular for women in Asian countries and there are many in the top rankings, but American women are still doing fine. The top 2 in the Rolex cup rankings are Americans. Korda and Vu. And the USA has 8 in the top 30 women. Although indeed a good % are Asian Americans, but still Americans and were born in the USA, not Asians who themselves immigrated.
US athletes are always eventually overtaken by others when the sport is opened to others, golf is no exception. if the rest of the world was bored enough to play baseball or american football the same would happen
I wouldnt say overtaken, but more about evening out. As other countries really get into it, you will see great players from many other countries and not dominated by the US. Still the #1 and #2 women golfers in the Rolex ranking right now are Americans and 8 in the top 30.
