RIP Dan....I came to pay my respects... Nazareth was my first concert on May 14th 1981 at the Chaparral Center in Midland Texas. I was 14 and this was their first song. They filled the entire coliseum with smoke from dry ice like they used to do back in the arena rock days. They had a red sign that was spelling out one letter at a time N-A-Z-A-R-E-T-H. They had the hugest explosion towards the end of the show. None of that sparkly pyro they have nowadays. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen and that started my obsession with concerts on that night and I went on to see every show I could. Some 20+ years later I saw Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth and April Wine at a concert hall / bowling alley/ club in Dallas. It was the best and most Intimate concert venue I've ever been to. It was called the Bronco Bowl... which was torn down to make room for another much needed Home Depot...we could always find another one of a kind concert hall right? Anyways, I was fortunate enough to meet Dan in the Canyon Club after the show. He was very approachable, humble and down to earth. He signed autographs for everyone who wanted one. I was able to tell him that Nazareth was my first concert back in 1981 (Trapeze and an unknown Krokus at the time opened up for them) His response was "Were we any good?!?" What a great, underated singer and lovely gentleman. I will miss him very much 💔
The main riff very likely inspired Adrian Smith for his song "Countdown" while he was still in Urchin, which then became "22 Acacia Avenue" when he joined Iron Maiden. Plus, the palm-muted arpeggios in the beginning were probably borrowed by Steve Harris for a section in "Phantom of the Opera"
If you want to go out You've got to take her out, cocaine And if you want to get down Down on the ground, cocaine She don't lie She don't lie She don't lie, cocaine Well if you've had bad news You want to kick your blues, cocaine And if your day is done But you just got to run on, cocaine She don't lie She don't lie She don't lie, cocaine Feeling is gone but you just Got to ride on, cocaine But don't forget this fact You just can't get it back, cocaine She don't lie She don't lie She don't lie, cocaine She don't lie She don't lie She don't lie, cocaine
