I love how the don really puts chills down my spine with his intelligence me me want to be a man but also love that he is a fair man with tge honesty. A man that is morally lit , A mam that keeps his word .. It's almost admiring
If only the leaders of Bloods, Crips, Vice Lords, Latin Kings, GD, BD and etc could sit down like this from all different sets. But that will never happen. Too much blood for generations.
Someone please explain this to me. The guy who offered Luca brasi a scotch was Bruno Tatalia. The older guy with the pink suit, aka the pimp was also Tatalia. So whos who??
Don Corleone says he will never break the peace they made this day, on the souls of my grandchildren. But Michael will. He is not bound by his father’s vow.
The nuances in this scene is so POWERFUL. Notice at the 4:29 mark when Don Tatalia speaks about Don Vito taking personal vendettas. Tatalia looks at Barzenie and then Don Corleone, before he speaks, briefly points at Barzini. He was saying in a subtle way that , he knew Barzini was the mastermind all along. Forgive me of my mistakes at spelling the names. 😂 EDIT: Notice how when Tatalia is talking, he’s looking at Barzini for confirmation of any concerns of Vito taking revenge. GODDDAMN THIS MOVIE IS BRILLIANT!!!
He noticed Barzini directing the meeting. Complimenting him at the start. Talking about "drawing water from the well", establishing the "peace treaty" by saying "Drugs will be controlled and Don Corleone will provide the protection." He also noticed Tatagglia waiting on Barzini to speak and do all this.
The dumbest meeting I have ever seen. "I am gonna agree to trading drugs but I don't want to see it near the schools" Just one example of the stupidity we watched. makes me one hit Tattalia with one the fruits on the table.
A move from a mastermind: go to the meeting knowing what you want and let the true enemy show his face. From that point, Don Vito knew he had the advantage.
Coppola said that when they met at Brando's home to talk to him about doing the film, Brando was wearing nothing but a bathrobe. After a few minutes' discussion Brando - who'd read the script - got up and walked over to a dresser where he put shoe polish in his hair, slicked it back, and stuffed tissues in his cheeks. Coppola said that after Brando turned away from the dresser, the man they had just been speaking with was gone and it was Vito Corleone who was standing there in a bathrobe.
Brando also didn't memorize lines, he read most of his lines from cue cards. He was a pain in the ass, hard to work with later in his career, but a great actor, no question about that. He should have accepted his Oscar for this performance. He ruined it by refusing it. Just like when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock and then won an Oscar.
i think how vito knew that Barzini was behind the wars was in how Barzini was running the meeting. It was supposed to be a peace deal between Tataglia and Corleone with Barzini as the mediator, but Barzini was almost speaking for Tataglia and Tataglia was always referring to Barzini when he spoke. There's no hard "gotcha" evidence here, but gut instinct are usually reliable.
