he just literally just wanted to live with his friends and enjolras but nooo they all wanted to die so he had to die with them too!!!!!!!!!! let my boy be happy with his bf!!!!!!!! damn u victor hugo!!!!!!!!
I really love his solo because before this song you really only see him in the background, in a more humorous light. But he's serving in this cause that he DOESN'T FULLY BELIEVE IN and he's about to DIE for it and you see all these conflicting emotions. Like "is your life just one more life" like PLEASE
I love how sad he sounds. Grantaire's are so often sang with anger, which works obviously, hes angry that his friends are going to their deaths for a cause he doesnt even really believe in and thats great, but havinng those few lines be soft and sad instead? Because hes resigned to his friends dying, that theyve chosen this and he cant change their minds? It kills me
well have no idea why they can't cut Mariu's solo instead of Grantaire's. Really don't like Mairu's part--everyone was talking about sacrifice and future while he was thinking about his girlfriend...who cares about his lonely sole!!!
this movie version of this song with Gavroche's singing, followed shortly by Gavroche's death, personifies the agonising grief that losing children in war would feel like
Drink with me to days gone by Can it be you fear to die? Will the world remember you When you fall? Could it be your death Means nothing at all? Is your life just one more lie? ALL Drink with me to days gone by To the life that used to be WOMEN At the shrine of friendship, never say die MEN Let the wine of friendship never run dry ALL Here's to you and here's to me MARIUS Do I care if I should die Now she goes across the sea? Life without Cosette Means nothing at all. Would you weep, Cosette, Should Marius fall? Will you weep, Cosette, For me?
Cuferaque, you take the watch They may attack before it's light Everybody keep the faith For certain as our banner flies We are not alone The people too must rise Marius, rest Drink with me to days gone by To the life (to the life) that used (that used) to be (to be) At the shrine of friendship, never say die Let the wine of friendship never run dry Here's to you (here's to you) and here's to me Drink with me to days gone by Can it be you fear to die? They recorded it, because I saw a video of it here on RU-vid and he was singing the solo it in the scene itself. I'll see if I can find it to pass to you. But it was simply cut. And this here is a version that George Blagden recorded alone after seeing how much the fans wanted the solo. no one has done more for Fandom than George Blagden❤️😭
Here is the original version recorded on the movie set, go to 3:11! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XqnzkUVxl68.htmlsi=7niqGvw84wC6WbKW But they simply deleted his verse😭😭😭 And then George Blagden (Actor from Grantaire) due to fan appeal recorded it for us: ru-vid.comJXbs4uWA-A4?si=WBDPO1xpLaDog_fc
Honestly, Grantaire's part here is more impactful if he's not with the bros. He doesn't care about the cause, he just admires that others care about something. Sharing his insecurities at the barricade, when in the book he was trying to get drunk enough to ignore the deaths of his friends (and ultimately failed to do so), makes him a bit of a mess.
things about the movie i will never forgive them for doing. - cutting grantaire’s solo - never getting to see THE MOMENT between e & r after his solo - them REMOVING GRANTAIRE AND GAVROCHE’S RELATIONSHIP and giving it to courf. don’t get me wrong, i love courf, BUT IT WAS R’S!! - i loved the death scene but they should have let R say “do you permit it?” and E grab his hand. - basically not going in depth or giving r’s character as much as he has in the stage or book. YOU HAVE GEORGE BLAGDEN FOR FUCKS SAKE. USE HIM. - i saw the stage musical some days ago AND R IS SUCH A BIG AND NOTICEABLE CHARACTER, like fucking WHY isn’t he in the movie.
The cut verse has always been one of my favorite parts of any song in any musical. I’ve been frustrated for 10 years that they cut it. It’s so perfect for that scene and for the entire story.
Grantaire has to be the most loyal, honourable one. To find his friend at the end, leader of the group, and stand proudly next to him so they could die together. I just cannot. 😭😭😭
