Do you have to replace the timing chain if you hear a rattle for 2-3 second on cold startups? or is it something else i would like to know what your thoughts are thanks I did lots of research on this and people say its the sprocket or something
@tophass that is an early sign of the chain is stretch. What happen is that the chain is stretch and the timing tensioner is at its max adjustment so the chain is loose so it rattle on code start. Even though the p0016 or p0018 is not on you should plan to have it done ASAP since these engine are known for the chain to break.
Life saver !!!! The motor mount trick is GOLD !!! I’m doing one warranty and I though I was fucked after I removed the diff and still didn’t have that much room
@swayywit2ys the car is not a daily, but so far no over heating. Running a 150f thermostat, sf street coolant fill pot, and a manual trigger for the fan.
@tomknud you gotta drop the pan to undo the pick tube so you can remove the timing cover. As for just the oil pan for leaks I haven't seen one leak there yet. Mainly just the timing cover.
hey, where did you connect the wires to the headlight to? to make those LED strips light up? i have the same headlights and want to know where i split those wires into
I know this is kinda late but there is a hex on the actual cam close to the cam gear I think it’s a size 22 wrench but I use an adjustable wrench and you can rotate the cam by itself (without the timing belt on it)
This is not the way specified in the workshop manual. 🤔 Normally, you have to turn the crankshaft pinion by 3 teeth, and then tighten the tensioner roller.
@@vangmotive7023 thank you again for the information. I remember doing the timing cover on the older Tacoma that had the oil filter up top . That one was super easy because I was able to remove the 2 studs on the bottom of the cover and do the job
Question: I had a guy replace my timing belt on a B20Z engine and it's had an obnoxious whining sound ever since. I've put about 5,000 miles on it so far, still whines. What was done incorrectly? He never offered to fix it afterwards.
@@vangmotive7023 Looking more closely, I think the exhaust cam rotated as you were installing the belt and is why there's so much slack between cams at 2:00. Yes, at least it was rotated the correct direction from the crank when relying on the spring to set tension; albeit, i think you only need to turn it 3 teeth to set tension while on a NEW spring.
I recently got this same kit. Car cranks right up but won’t disengage to go into any gear. Any input? Car shifts like butter when it’s off so I know it’s not the cables, I’ve also adjusted the cmc to spec. Regardless I’m tearing it back down but I’d like to know what you think is causing this exact issue
