Is there a way skydivers can explain the feeling of falling to earth from a height?
@vampiresforesl
@vampiresforesl 2 года назад
I don't understand this. The poster emphasizes "spotting," but what literally are these skydivers doing for 20 seconds, with mountains everywhere in their line of sight? How do you miss that?

Was that your reserve or main? It looks like a reserve (solid red color). Just wondering if you went to your reserve as it would've deployed faster than your main?

1. At what height did you jump out of the plane? 2. How high were those mountain peaks? Being the alps I bet they came up sooner than expected seeing as no one tracked and you were a second or 2 from dying. Glad you're alive and this video is a good lesson to consider these factors.

Does an altimeter verify altitude about sea level, or above the ground under you?
@nemoskyfish
@nemoskyfish 3 года назад
Neither, all altimeters, audibles and AADs register the pressure at take off (as it's rapidly reducing). Pilots know this as QFE. So they will always indicate altitude above the departure airfield unless manually adjusted.
@adr.h
@adr.h 3 года назад
what AAD was it 10 years ago? mine would have pulled dude
@nemoskyfish
@nemoskyfish 3 года назад
No it wouldn't. Assuming you know how an AAD works, read the video description. If you still think your AAD would activate, let me know and I'll explain why it won't. I had a Cypress II which did exactly what it should do.

That was close! The vertical speed was still so high you were unable to fly forward to safety and had to hit that hill? I understand in the first seconds after parachute opens you still have high vertical speed and the parachute needs to slow it down afew 5-10 seconds? It looked like you pulled the breakes and the parachute dived into that hill like stone. Wasn't it possible to fly down the slope?
@nemoskyfish
@nemoskyfish 3 года назад
That piece of sh.. just wouldn't fly 😆 Seriously, more or less what you wrote, there is a transition after opening, depending on many things, mainly type and size of canopy. I could have done a bit more to possibly get further but I really thought I'd die and when I realized I wouldn't, there was a bit of a shock moment. Also a factor was the altitude of 8.000-9.000 feet above MSL.

@@nemoskyfish I am super happy you are still good after so many years. Your video helps around the world to teach new skydivers and... those who organize such jumps.

So, I don't know anything about skydiving, but is that odd "sitting" posture often used? I was under the impression that the standard position was starfishing on ones belly.
@nemoskyfish
@nemoskyfish 3 года назад
Bellyflying was the first way of skydiving. Sitflying came later in the 80s but is done a lot, yes. Google freeflying, you will find all sorts of types...

I disagree, picking a spot far away from everyone so you’re not getting shot at gives you a better chance, often times I’m one of the last to land.
