What happens when your loving Dad tells you he honestly can't afford a saxophone and instead sits down and strums you some chords from his heart RIP Allan Holdsworth Greatest ever
I’m not always in the mood for this level of intensity, but when I am (such as now), I’m absolutely flabbergasted by Allan. His band mates on this are incredible too.
I tried to catch the names of the band members when introduced by Allan at 53:50 and the end ; here is my best guess: - Steve Hunt (keys) - Skúli Sverrisson (bass) - Chad Wackerman (drums) For me, only the last name is clearly articulated by Allan, reliable understanding is more difficult for the first two given the available audio... Thanks for the upload
Fantastic clip. Amazing tech, but it's also really nice that Allan did continue with guitars right to the end. The guitar has so much character and nuance, it would seem wrong if Allan had abandoned it. He was one of the greatest ever to play the instrument (and the Synthaxe!)
I keep returning to this video. Allan was an incredible artist who fell through the cracks a bit because he was "too rock sounding" for many jazz purists and way too sophisticated for a rock/pop audience. He's finally getting his due credit a lot more because of the internet. He will be long remembered.
it really doesnt matter the instrument, these sequence of notes.. are just never to be matched..Allans phrasing is terrifying while remaining technically obscene
Beyond all negatives comments and different opinions about his playing, everyone should keep in mind guys like EVH, Zappa, Gambale, Vai, Govan, Shawn Lane, Henderson, Colaiuta, Yngwie, and many others killer musicians ( not only guitar players ) , all these first class musicians were totally in awe for his playing, it must be worth something….
