Xander Harris is Heart Of The Scooby Gang. He's The One Who See Everything Beyond The Supernatural. He saves the world by himself twice. He lie to Buffy and Willow to he protect them from Angel's inner beast Angelus when Willow planned help regain Angel's conscience. Without Xander, there's no The Scooby Gang.
not sure why youtube started recommending below 100 view videos, but i just saw it was a 5min video and wanted to give it a chance- i never really noticed HOW MUCH of the episode was rooting in greed- good catch! while the algo will probably have u on a hitlist for the short video using mainly copyrighted media, i still think its good work!
Xander is the only character in the show that doesn't have innocent blood on his hands. He never did anything wrong. His 'crimes', such as they were, was him shooting his shot for a girl supposedly out of his league (Buffy). He was the normal one, the one who never got powers, never got respect and never got any mean fighting skills. He could be judgmental at times but that was surpassed by his love for his friends and his loyalty and courage. He's guilty of being 'boring'. When the writers needed to emasculate a man to make their girl power moment it was always Xander they utilized for the joke. Xander had moments of 'hotness' as the ladies attest, so Joss and the Writers told Nicholas Brenden to stop working out as he was too fit and sexy for a 'nerd'. This caused Nick to spiral into alcohol and drugs, gain weight and he still hasn't recovered from that. In the show the ruined the character, but the show also ruined the actors career and life. Such a shame.
I don’t think the writers put enough development into Tara’s character. There were flashes of her life story and various challenges she faced, but they don’t really stick. I love Tara and I wish they had given her character more substance before they killed her off as a catalyst for Willow’s dive into the dark side.
I think Xander is the most realistic character on the show. He’s just a normal high school dude. He’s insecure, damaged by his bad family life and desperately wanting something more for himself. I love his humor and goofiness. In later seasons I love his common sense approach to tough problems. On the other hand, he can be infuriatingly stupid and insensitive at times. He’s a reflection of all of us. We aren’t perfect. We make mistakes. But we keep on trying to do or be better. We aren’t heroes with awesome powers. We have to solve our problems the boring way - through trial and error and lots of sweat and tears. We aren’t as exciting as a Buffy character, but we are heroes in our own way nonetheless.
My favourite ep. The way reality ends up breaking down near the end of the episode is unlike any other strange Sunnydale occurrence, I can't imagine how they explained and rationalized that day away. Also, when this episode first aired, I had very intense dreams about a Vamped up Buffy. Really good dreams! The Uglyman is a perfect childhood metaphor. I love the unpolished and underground feel of Season one. And Giles lines, "Dreams? That would be a Musical Comedy version of this. Our Nightmares are coming true!" references Once More With Feeling far earlier than it ever had any business doing.
And I think you are correct too... Whistler thought that Angel was meant to stop Acathla and Angelus seemed to be the one to bring him about, so in a way he he;s both responsible for Acathla and for stopping Acathla.
I've just had a thought this was a joss wheedon show only had 1 season should of had more the actors and or crew didnt take anything and got 1 season Buffy the vampire slayer actors all say now how hard it was to work with him but still did and got multiple seasons. Not low again lol thanks for the videos
If you’re mad about the way people feel about Xander it’s because you see yourself in him and it makes you feel bad. Deal with the cognitive dissonance and leave us out of it
The relationship with Wesley’s father is something I can relate to, which is why Wesley is such a comfort character for me. The demon bringing up how “nothing will make him proud of you,” add to how sad wesley’s relationship with his father is - because even after everything (shooting his father in S5) Wesley wanted his dad to love and be proud of him. Even after her got the courage to stand up to his (not) dad, Wesley calls his father at the end of the episode to see how he is. Wesley’s relationship with his father carried him his whole life and I think that is something not everyone thinks about or understands - how we are partially shaped into who we become by our parents and how they treated us.
I was never a fan of Willow x Tara despite loving both characters. I always felt it was too forced, too corny bonding over magic. Willow and Tara felt more natural and no I don't mean natural as in straight, since I'm gay too, I just always preferred her with Oz more than with Tara.
I would argue not, but only because the poison seemed to be killing him fast and they needed the blood of a Slayer. But I would agree there seem to be some distinct similarities.
This is great. I've watched a lot of reactors attempt BSG on YT since it's one of my fav shows. Some are great... most, not so much. I like that yours is a discussion/podcast format, and the discussion is thoughtful. You should have way more views, here's a like and comment. Hope you stick with it. 👍
I flippin' love Cordy. The greatest tragedy of the Buffyverse was how her character was treated in Angel seasons 4 and 5. Charisma and Cordy deserved better.
Caprica isnt really the future technologically. Their development is a bit wonky bc caprica isnt their homeworld, but most of their tech is contemporary 21st century tech, with the only really advanced part being the FTL drive, space travel and artificial gravity, which are arcane and pre-kobol anyways. Besides they lost a lot of the cyberpunk tech shown in caprica because of the first toaster revolt which made their equivalent of the internet, networked computers, and even cordless phones and guided missiles a liability.
In my opinion what tara brings to the scooby gang is the instinct to be right and wise and Giles is not this as he tried to kill spike and when he was Tara's age he was a chansmoking lawbreaking reckless person who toys with magic. Tara could've been this, Willow was some of this. The reason why she wasn't is due to her instinctual kindness and wisdom. Even with a very abusive father and brother who twisted her mothers death and making her mother look like a villian and then just forgiving them even though they haven't had enough courage to admit they where wrong. That emotional maturity is amazing. She is the definition of the empath character which obviously isn't present in buffy up until that time. And no Xander really isn't as he wouldn't have left Anya at the alter in some ways he really is especially in the Caleb episodes of S7 but not the finale I mean the amount of distrust for any relationship that if Anya fell in love with someone and then to make a joke about her saving someone's life? Not really empath behaviour. And while she and s1 Willow are both quiet bumbling introverts s1 Willow didn't have the courage to tell the best mortal fighter there is that she's wrong. And she certainly didn't have the courage to kill the head of a demon gang that burned Sunnydale down.Furthermore she (unlike Giles and Willow at a very similar ages) knew the boundries of magic and its morals. So she brought tempathy unchallenged wisdom for a character at her age and forgiveness. Also please don't take this as an attack I loved you're analysis on Tara and for all I know I could be absolutely wrong about things and I am also biased because I am very empathetic.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was 17 when the pilot for Buffy season one was shot. Since Dawn appeared in Season 5, Sarah would have been about 21 when she shot season 5. Great video! I always enjoy your analysis of all things Buffy!
As you may grow up you become the voice of reason in most of your friend groups and I feel like a lot of people don't like Xander cuz he's kind of like the voice of reason he tells you maybe don't sleep with the Vampire because you know your job is killing them maybe don't use dark magic because it might bite you in the ass Willow maybe you can't always figure out everything through a book Mr librarian but the minute he gets a little horny everyone gets off on his ass
Xander just isn't a very nice person. He schmoozes up to girls he finds hot but otherwise he treats everyone else quite nasty. Especially when he perceives them as lower than him, then gets a right power rush and belittles them every chance he gets. That's what I really dislike the most about him. Also his behaviour for the most part is never called out, whereas everyone else's is and they grow from it. Overall his arc is quite stunted and he's barely different in the last season than in the first.
