@@DougsPerspective It's a knockoff based on the Seiko "Captain Willard" it's my one and only "homage" watch. But it's solid and does the job in rugged situations.
I love the green too but i already have a green Longines Hydro. The blue pops so nicely. I prefer a piece like this on bracelet too. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for your comment! If you like bracelets, I recently got the Omega mesh and it’s awesome. Here’s my video about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AO5LgEkTwn8.htmlsi=isjrvmN1ahCTY035
@@user-tx5dy1fz4g CONGRATULATIONS!!! You will love it! I actually do not have the blue dial anymore, but now have the black dial too. I recently did a video on it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AO5LgEkTwn8.htmlsi=cA4FJBudEr52XUAc
I own both - blue Seamaster and black Sub. The Sub just has a better quality about it - the bezel action, the bracelet, the smoother sweep of the second hand - and is so much more comfortable to wear which makes it feel a notch above. Plus, the (black) Sub looks more classy and is way more versatile, the Seamaster looks more sporty. Both great watches though.
That was great video Doug, thank you. I see that you prefer the rubber strap to anything else, but I would like to know if you have ever tried Uncle Straps especially US1479 model. This one I have is a perfect option (if you are a bracelet guy like me) and I believe Uncle Straps did what Omega should have done.
Interesting to read all the comments. I was planning on getting a Santos as an early Christmas gift to myself, but with multiple customers reporting the same issue, it seems it's not just a coincidence, but a more fundamental problem with QC or the movement itself. I'll probably pass on the Santos now. ☹️
I understand your concern (especially since it is an expensive watch and you want it to be perfect). But since they fixed mine, it has a power reserve of 36-40 hours which I am ok with since I LOVE the watch so much. However, mine is the medium with no date, so seeing it (if needed) is very quick. But if you got the large with date, I could see that as a pain if you needed to reset date and time often. It is not perfect, but the Santos is absolutely one of my favorite watches I own.
Hello there , i had a request. Could you please measure and let me know the size of the sapphire crystal, just to get an idea of the size pf the dial . Thanks !
Just found your video I own the Tokyo and I've been thinking about the Santos for a while I really like them I have an 8¼ inch wrist so I'm not sure about the size
Hi Chris, thanks for your comment. You have a large wrist - my wrist is 7.25” for reference. I would think the Santos large may be a better fit. Also, I had to get an extra link for this medium Santos bracelet - so be prepared to ask your AD for (possibly) another link (s). My AD gave me my extra link at no charge.
Nice collection! A great thing about these two watches is that each has numerous color configs (Seamaster in blue, black, white, silver,, green, Americas Cup and Santos in black, white, blue, green, brown) depending on what the owner prefers.
Thank you and I hope you get one/both! I actually have a OP41 that I love and it could easily be a single watch collection. Here it is if you would like to see it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BmGG2MHmW-4.htmlsi=Ly0GUIVnJabOiRkB
hey all! Keep in mind, the bracelet does not bend on the sides, so if it slips down your wrist you won't be able to bend it much... my wrist is unfortunately somewhere in the middle of 2 holes - either it's a bit tight, or a bit too loose... it was ok during the summer, but now I feel it doesn't fit very well :( Btw I got the S size. Also, spring bars were not included, I payed 20 euros extra for "official” Omega ones -.-
@@ChAkYaa Thanks for sharing as this info may help others considering the bracelet. I have a 7.25"/18.4cm wrist and it fits well (probably on the same hole as yours when a little loose).
I actually really like the aesthetics of the HE valve on the SMP - it is a part of its iconic design. Likewise, when I see multiple crowns on JLC Master Compressors, etc. I like those too. But, to each his own.
I have that same mesh bracelet and I do agree 100% that it wears so much better. I also have the rubber strap which I had it on longer than the OE bracelet. I actually have my eye on the Large Santos in white dial or the new IWC Ingenieur black or aqua color. That’s my dilemma.
JUST ordered the mesh bracelet for my seamaster. Unfortunately, Omega is sold out of the 20mm online so i had to pay a re-seller on eBay. Can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks for the clear and great vids.
Hey Josh, thanks for the nice comments! Here’s a more detailed video of the mesh bracelet ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AO5LgEkTwn8.htmlsi=9zvyeQIJg6Xgyntt
@@timb8095 thanks Tim - while I personally don’t like the Speedy, that recommendation would be perfect for those that do (and want a sport/sport combination vs sport/dress combination).
@@DougsPerspective agreed, something like a blue or green dial Speedy 57 can move a little toward the dressier style of watch but not an outright dress watch as such.
Funnily enough, AMZWATCH's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
Both Rolex & Omega are my two favorite watch brands and have classic styling (since they created these “classics”). I love them all but I will agree Rolex has a flashier presence.
Have a submariner 124060 ND and so far been waiting 6 months for a dj 41 blue or black dial and the batgirl. Getting impatient and might just go with the Cartier santos L in a white dial and stop looking at watches altogether
I have a Batgirl, Starbucks, Daytona, had two DJ41s (both blue), and currently have OP41 with blue dial. Interestingly, the one that always seems to grab my attention is the Santos. Having said that, both the Batgirl and the DJ41 are spectacular watches! Here’s my collection if you want to check them out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0DeDPhUPFjA.htmlsi=su8WqI1ulNE-uwq7
Solid recommendation. As alternatives, one could go for a Longines Conquest or Tudor Black Bay for the sporty GADA watch, and a 9F Grand Seiko for the dressier watch. Personally when I am not rotating through my collection, the 2 watches I tend to grab are a Yachtmaster and a Golden Snowflake. But I am aware that none of these 2 can be considered “obtainable”.
Thank you for your comment … and I agree with your recommendations too! Here’s my 9F GS - What a great watch and incredible dial! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JUKNqesYeG8.htmlsi=ZO52EixmTd8FSmM7
Hey, I have the mesh proplof bracelet. The clasp is seatbelt style and is much smaller and thinner. It does not have those solid ends the spring bar slides through the mesh giving the smp 300 a tool vibe rather than dressy vibe. FYI Spring bars also fit. I purchased mine with the original bracelet.
I actually own both of those watches, the Seamaster in green dial, and the Santos medium two tone. Had same idea in mind, using the santos as a more dressy watch and the omega as a beater, actually worn it through airport security many times.
I am usually very skeptical of videos touting the perfect two watch collection but I believe you nailed it! Unfortunately, the only way somebody can reach the zen of knowing what makes the perfect two watch collection is to have owned a lot of other watches as you obviously have. I have three Omegas (Ploprof, Seamaster Bullhead Chronograph and Speedmaster Mark II) and they are superb daily wear watches that will last for literally decades without any serious issues. I have owned a limited edition Cartier Pasha but it was a much fussier watch than the more versatile Santos which seriously fills the dress watch/sporty dress watch category better than any other watch I can think of for the price. I have owned over 50 watches and still have 30 in my collection so I believe that I have enough experience with watches to conclude that your input is of real value no matter how new or far along one is on their watch collecting journey. You have picked me up as a subscriber who is looking forward to more of your videos.
Thank you so much for your comment! You must have an amazing collection - I would love to see your “State Of The Collection” and learn some of the stories behind your selections.
Yeah,…Doug,…excellent recommendations. The Santos de Cartier is amazing. The GADA watch! Such a unique style, 100m WR, robustly anti-magnetic, quick switch bracelet/strap feature is amazing,…not to mention the Smart Link system for adjusting the bracelet. Honestly, the Santos de Cartier should be the foundation stone of most collections. GREAT point about availability! Just go into an AD and purchase one. No nonsense! As to the daily dive watch selection, it is hard to argue against the Omega. That said, if I was limiting myself to a 2 watch collection (which I think is wise for many reasons), I would go with the Santos de Cartier Large with the green dial and the Grand Seiko SLGA023 “Ushio”. A tremendous watch that is available, albeit at a much higher price,…but simply amazing. Titanium, 200M WR, incredible dial, spring drive movement, finishing is remarkable. Good stuff, Doug. Enjoy!!
My two watch combo is Tudor BB Pro as my sports and travel watch with the GMT complication and the Zenith Chronomaster Sport more elegant and refined with the unique 10th of a second chronograph. They are both very versatile watches to wear with bracelet, leather, rubber or sailcloth straps.
Cartier Santos is a great for one watch collection but Omega SMP300 it’s a great sport/diving addition. I wouldn’t agree more that this is a great set.
Hey Don, thanks for your comment. I guess it really is a matter of perspective … to some, 2 luxury watches is a lot and to others 2 luxury watches is not enough. I have 4 Rolexes, 1 Omega, 1 Cartier, 1 GS , 1 TH Monaco, 2 g shocks and 1 MoonSwatch - so I understand your perspective. 👊😁
Hey Rubyjam, you have the best combo in my option - a no date sub and santos is perfect. The only problem for most people is obtaining the sub. But if possible, I 100% agree!
Great video Doug! I have owned and sold the white seamaster twice haha (long story). I'm now looking again and considering a blue or black! I currently own a speedy, DJ41 blue and GMT master 2 rootbeer. Which colour would compliment my collection best in your opinion?
Hey Derek, thanks for your comment. I’ve actually owned the white, then blue, and now black SMP. While all of them are beautiful, that gloss black is hard to beat. 😁

The other thing I love about the santos is that I think it is truly a unisex watch. It looks great with a suit, it is great for the wife (easy adjustable strap) and it is an heirloom for my daughters. I cannot say the same for any of my larger sport watches.
Hi Zachary, I completely agree. Interestingly, my girlfriend and I “share” the Santos medium. Here’s a video of us with it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dKbtWH9XByY.htmlsi=xG7IMyflxivf-1wZ
I would pick a Tudor dive watch over the Omega Seamaster. The problem with the Seamaster is that idiotic "manual" helium escape valve. The automatic helium escape valve was invented by Rolex because deep sea divers kept forgetting to unscrew their crowns under decompression. Having a way to release He gas was never a problem: just unscrew the crown, the problem was remembering to do it - which is what the automatic helium escape valve solves. So having an additional crown that solves nothing is idiotic - a useless feature like those people who install rear spoilers on front wheel drive cars - it demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of engineering and problem solving for the sake of looks. The other thing is the coaxial escapement: I know the theoretical benefits, but they are not borne in actual benefits: not only does the escapement still need to be oiled, but it is so difficult that a trained Omega watchmaker is the only one who can oil it, and the so-called efficiency of the escapement does not result in real-world metric evidence. There are many companies who have created new escapements like Rolex, Seiko and Laurent Ferrier and their designs results in higher power reserves - something you'd expect if an escapement is actually more efficient. The coaxial on the other hand results in a thicker movement and Omega struggles to achieve a 3 day power reserve unless they cheat by installing a second mainspring, which Rolex/Seiko/Lauren Ferrier didn't need to do.
