Thanks for watching DownUnder Projects. I am just an average bloke that seems to end up building or fixing most things myself, particularly when it comes to my Downeaster 38 Ketch and my old Landcruiser Troopcarrier Hopefully you'll find these videos entertaining and inspirational which might give you confidence to have a go at a project yourself. If you like what you see then please subscribe and share which will encourage me to do more. #boat,#sailing,#Troopcarrier All the best , David
Great video, I actually swapped out my eye glass screw driver for the awl from a leatherman rebar. I don't use glasses or sunglasses, but seeing that you are on the water I can see that sunglasses can be quite useful and having an awe that small from scissors would be even more useful as a sewing awl than the rebar awl
I've just been watching your two videos on making the box into deck hatches. Did you do a final fitting video of the hatches? How did you seal the underside, maybe use of gaskets? Great films BTW, thanks.
I’m looking for. your video of the reassembly of this Johnson F - 5B-9 pump. I’m curious becuase I need one and a Yanmar shop here in California told me not to try and rebuild mine because the F - 5B-9 Johnson pump had a special ceramic mechanical seal on the oil side of the pump and a special spring to hold the ceramic bearing at a precise pressure to keep the oil from comnig across to the water side, and the lip seal on the salt water side to keep the raw water out of the oil side. Looks to me like there are ONLY TWO inexpensive lip seals in the F 5B-9 pump. Of course he wants to sell me a brand new $560 US new FB-9 pump! LOL! I wonder… Ceramic mechanical seal? Ever hear of this in a 5 FB-9 pump??? LOL
No change to the gearbox ratios. It's stock standard. Maybe the little bit more air from the new airmar snorkle??? They reckon that these raised air intake with the ram style head only start working over 80kph?? Not sure? The bigger exhaust is definitely a game changer though. I love it! I have put the manta proper muffler on it since I made the vid. The hot dog was too loud for me and I reckon it goes even better now. Only drama I've had is that the exhaust pipe vibrates on the chasis where it comes out of the dump pipe. I've emailed Manta about it a few times and they've totally ignored me. Very slack customer service unfortunately.
@@downunderprojects9322 sorry to hear that , rattles are anoying. i have a airmax they do help the engine to breath and you have the benifit one peice fully sealed snorkel. Great engine the fte respond well to little or big improvments. owned mine 18 years still go's strong.
Good to see you blokes keeping the fluids up, that sun can get pretty hot. We have something in common Fitzy, we just got back from our boat trip where our first stop was Eden but we didn't get off until we got to Athens six weeks later.
Awesome video mate. Good info. I’ve got a HDJ100 which is very similar speeds going up that hill as I head down the coast. I was wondering if it was down on power so it’s good to compare. Thanks 😊
I have subscribed first time. Regardless of what you are planning? I am looking forward to this car. Being fully finished completed and fully restored similar type thing. Regards from William.
Cheers for the video mate , Kiama is my old stomping ground . On the hunt for an fte troopy so if you hear of any coming up for sale give us a yell cob , cheers mate , harry
Hey mate ive got a 3 inch straight though and egr delete on my 79 rv and with out a doubt it opens them up for sure itll tow a loaded car trailer up a hill and make it its bitch itll just kept pulling up the hill without any real effort ive had v8s as work utes some with and without 3inch fitted and they had nothing on the 1hdfte.
haha I'm trying to redo mine, and you skipped the most important part between 7:44 and 7:47...i can't get the front plate off to save my life! I'm not sure what's going on but I spent the last two days shoving screwdrivers and wedges and everything under the sun to try get that stupid plate off! lol and you skip that exact part, oh boy lol
If your talking about the most forward bolt in the bowsprit then if I remember corectly it's just a ling bit of threaded rod with nuts, washers and backing plates on each end. You might just have to try and grab the rod with some vice grips to allow you to undo whichever nut won't undo.
Wait until your fuel tank starts leaking and you have to cut everything up, including the tank to get it out. FYI the bottom of the tank sits just about in the bottom of the bilge and always in bilge water (not the best idea.)
Leaks are a problem which never go completely away but can be brought under some control. You must be very persistent though. The worst problem I've had to face, was a badly leaking diesel tank. This required lifting the plywood sole in the galley and cutting the hull liner beneath it. Then cutting the 90 gallon aluminum tank into sections in order to lift them through the main companion way. A truly terrible project to be sure. I found the bottom of the old tank nearly touching the bottom of the bilge and sitting in bilge water (I wanted to shoot the marine architect). I hope you won't ever have to face such a mess (but you probably will).
Hello. Just removed my bow sprit, Down Easter 38 ketch ‘75. Looks like it’s a bit soft and it’s already been scarfed at the outer end a bit. What wood did you use for your new one? ‘might have to replace all of mine. Thanks for the video! G
Pretty sure I got most of the spares from Whitworths. Any Johnson pump supplier should be able to get them for you if you know the part numbers or at least the pump model number. Good luck!
Love it mate, I would recommend getting a Unichip fitted and a dyno tune now that you have the exhaust and bigger airbox. That will be a complete game changer. Great vid.
What were your EGT's running? The thing I noticed is how much cooler the truck seemed to run with the larger exhaust. Watch the temp gauge. I have a 95 Troopy with a 1HZ.
Yeah I've heard that. I didn't have an egt sensor on the original exhaust. I've got the sensor now on the 3 inch but haven't hooked it all up yet. Also got a water temp gauge fitted when I installed my low coolant alarm but it's not hooked up yet either. Just need to power up my JRP 14 in one gauge but I've been slack. Original Troopy water temp gauges are notoriously inaccurate and can easily fluctuate by 20+ deg! So I haven't noticed much difference. Thanks for your feedback.
@@downunderprojects9322 Right, what I meant to say is that your truck seemed to run cooler with the larger exhaust, which I saw by watching your coolant temp gauge on your dash on the video. I said that badly. I have a stock exhaust and I know if I pushed my 1HZ like that the EGT would be over 1000 in no time.
Loved it & enjoyed playing around with the drone. Looking forward to more vids & wishing you best of luck with the Tassy trip. Unfortunately I can’t make it this time. 😜👍
Definitely an improvement with the new exhaust. A shame about those disgusting sausage waters toilets. That bloke in the little black car at 15:30 I think needs some food to look at his lights. Good overall testing champion. Interesting to see the difference 😃👍
Seeing that Calcium build-up is just another readon why I tell boat owners to look at installing either a 3-way valve onto their thru hull seawater intake so the raw water can be closed off and the engine can then be run out of a 20 litre bucket of freshwster mixed with sum dishwashing liquid. Or a simple connection can be placed into the seawater strainer so a garden hose can be attatched to the strainer to flush the engine with. Saves time and a lot of money for a tiny outlay. Plus the added bonus of having the 3-way valve is that if God forbid the boat starts taking on water and the bilge pumps cant keep up or they fail you open the valve and with a suitable hose attatched you use the engine as a bilgepump. Plus I cant get over that the engines tube-stack has such a dead/unused portion in the middle.
Regarding the way a Land Cruiser headlights are wired. They have whats called a Hot Common. This is unusual to most other vehicles and needs to be discussed as it affects the relay conffigeration etc.
