In 1974, I heard the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and thought “Wow! I gotta learn to play like that! “ 50 years later, I hear the Mahavishnu Orchestra I think “wow I gotta learn how to play like that”. * sigh *
Really in some respects he keeps on breaking new grounds, constant experimenting with guitars and sounds and the vigour in playing at that level is just amazing. Those two drummers (keyboardist in dual role there) works real hard to keep up.
Vi esa actuación en el Porto drum show, impresionante, he visto muchos grandes bateristas, pero Antonio Sánchez me ha sorprendido muchísimo, está a otro nivel...
I am sure when (IF) you could reach the level of innovation that Donati brought to the instrument (maybe in 3 of your lifetimes) you would enjoy people telling you "same stuff over and over"
Yes I do but John is so pentatonic based that in the modern world, sounds so ancient. John had the ability to go way outside of the musical box but for some reason he didn't. So weird to me. I love John's musical concept but he cold have gone so far beyond. Never understood why he didn't.
John McLaughlin is the best guitar player in my opinion. His unique style and tremendous virtuosity!! I still enjoy watching the old videos with the Mahavishnu orchestra... it's so incredible!!! Thank you for your comment!!
