Fishing and the beauty of the great outdoors is what this channel is all about!
I've been a Fishpond fan for years and after fishing yesterday for a long time with my waist pack, I left the outing thinking about switching because I'm feeling dragged down by that system. It is great too but at 5' 3" I'm holding it up to wand to a spot at times. Your video has completely helped me get a better idea of it's proc/cons and I'll probably purchase one. I like that if I decide to to a long haul, I can get the compatible backpack you mentioned. I saw these at a fly shop today and checking reviews now. THANK YOU for sharing - appreciate ya!
It takes a lot of guts backpacking in grizzly country, especially by yourself. You can really learn a lot from the comments, but in my opinion you did good. I do a lot of solo backpacking in Colorado, we may not have the grizz as we know, but tooth and claw exist. If a camp fire is permitted, they’re nice to have as a companion, there is something about a campfire that makes you feel a little more comfortable when being alone. As more time passes through the country your ability to figure things out starts to line up. Anticipating the inevitable can help when in the outdoors, we can prepare all we want but it’s our experience that can set us up for the next thing. Great fish!!
Is there an explanation for to back squares on the side the plastic ones want to attach water bottle on side don’t know what their called and want to know of there is a specific clip for that style of accessory ?
My stepdaughter and I stayed at the slide inn. We fished right there pl us 3 dollar bridge, lyons, and at ennis. Buggers during the day and cadis in the evening. This was in July 2003 with lots of 16 to 20 inch fish. God I wish Becky was still alive to go back with me again, but she will still be there in my heart!
This is great information...but I'm surprised you didn't include the materials for those flies anywhere in the video or the blog post. For the nymph....what material are you using for that dorsal stripe? Does the abdomen have a rib? Have you bent that hook upwards or do you buy them like that? What's your preferred material for that collar hackle? Are you fishing it weighted or is that a glass bead (since it's a dry-dropper)?
These are great questions! I am still refining this pattern but will do a separate video and blog post in the future on how to tie this. As for your questions: -Dorsal stripe is a strand of white thread. It is secured with a rib for the abdomen. -for the collar hackle, I actually used starling feathers that I had on hand but dyed black or dark brown hen hackle would be fine too. -i tie them both weighted and lightly-weighted. Ive found that the light ones can be supported by a slate drake dry since it is a larger fly. Hope this answers all your questions!
I started doing family vacations out there and fell in love with the sport of fly fishing. A lot of familiar views so I can’t wait to go back this summer. The backdrop in the videos is amazing and I don’t think you can beat the experience. You earned a subscriber from our channel. Great video!
I am interested. I think of the little black stonefly as a a meaningless hatch that I don't even worry about. I am guessing I am wrong. @@BackyardBassin
My wife and I have been going to Western Montana the past three summers. Absolutely nothing like that country anywhere! Came across this excellent video today. Excellent job self filming your adventure! We can 100% relate to your respect of the Griz out there. We feel the same way when we are fishing out there. Nice work and thank you for your Military service too!
Penn State guys! My son and I ran into a group of alumni staying at the same lodge we were near Pulaski one year. We had gotten back earlier than them and had the TV, so to speak. They very politely asked us if they could watch the Penn State game; we obliged. They were some of the best people we ever stayed with at that lodge (I've been going there for 35+ years), they shared with my son and me all kinds of smoked meats, cheeses, and fish. It was a helluve fishing trip!
They are baby fingernail clippers from the drug store / pharmacy. We like baby nail clippers because they're small and sharper than typical nail clippers
If you are wanting to achieve a PT color to your baetis emerger, try Veevus BO9. The tail, the wrong color thread. Thats not even a Shop Vac variation.
It’s a little late, but that plastic piece on the original lanyard is meant to take a magnetic net keeper. Once loaded with the weight of a net, it’s far more comfortable. Also, Trout Hunter and Varivas spools fit in the tippet holders. The best feature of it is the magnetic deck that lays out in front when opened. This thing is really meant for working with the smallest of flies. 20 - 26. Thanks for the review!
Great video! But what was that thing that holds your net? Looks like someting i been searching for a long time.. what is it called and can it hold net on waterdrag?
I just found your videos. Absolutely fantastic! I fished the kettle this years with some good friends and absolutely loved it!! Keep up the great work!
