Wir waren mit dem Safariboot Narobla unterwegs. Man verbringt die meisten Nächte allerdings in Häfen, bis auf Princess Alice. Da bleibt man eine Nacht vor Ort. Die beste Jahreszeit ist Mitte Juli bis Mitte August, weil dann das Wetter am stabilsten ist. Auf den Azoren sagt man, jeder Tag hätte 4 Jahreszeiten. :-) Da ist auch was dran. Hatten in 14 Tagen 4 Regentage. Die Wale und Delphine haben wir allerdings bei separaten Whale Watching Touren nach unserer Safari gesehen.

@@stilletiefen2230 Die Azoren sind auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert. Sowohl über Wasser als auch unter Wasser. Wichtig ist zu wissen, daß man dort nunmal extrem vom Wetter abhängt. Wenn man die großen Bartenwale sehen will, sollte man im Frühjahr dort hin. Doch dann ist das Wetter auch extrem instabil. Man braucht also Zeit und ein Alternativprogramm an Land, wenn Ausfahrten ausfallen. Zum Tauchen würde ich außerhalb der besten Zeit von Mitte Juli bis Mitte August gar nicht auf die Azoren fahren. Das Risiko von Schlechtwetter wäre mir zu groß. Wenn es allerdings klappt, sind die Tauchplätze vor Pico und Faial mit Abstand das beste Tauchgebiet in Europa, sofern die großen Stars Blauhaie und Mobulas mitspielen. @@tauchertom49 Musik auswählen ist immer ein riesen Aufwand, bis man mal alles passend zum Projekt beisammen hat. Für diesen Film habe ich die freie Lizenz und Nennung in Kombination mit einer Spende gewählt. Ich plane allerdings auch einen knapp über zweiminütigen Imagefilm für den ich die volle Lizenz gekauft habe. Diese kostet aber 20€, nicht 10€.

Genau diese Erinnerung war bei uns damals die Ambition Fall aus der Luft zu filmen.

Yes, on the Raja Laut, only certified divers were allowed. It's not possible for beginners to simply go on a liveaboard like the Raja Laut. You need a certain number of logged dives to participate. In our case, I believe it was at least 50 logged dives or so. The maximum number of dives per day is predetermined. With four dives, including the necessary surface intervals, breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner, you're occupied from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., or even longer in the case of a night dive or an early morning dive. Trust me, after doing that for eight days, you'll be in need of a vacation. 🙂However, no one is forced to dive. If you only want to do 6 dives instead of 24, you can do so. However, you still have to pay for all of them since the liveaboard is booked as a package with all the services included. The maximum number of dives during the whole trip can also vary. If the weather conditions don't allow it, the planned dive sites and routes can change quickly. Since there were no non-divers on our boat, I can't say how it would have been. It's possible that the provider may accommodate non-divers if there are still available cabins on the boat. However, in Raja Ampat many of the dive sites that are interesting for diving are not suitable for snorkeling. These sites often have strong currents, as they are where you can find interesting marine life such as sharks and manta rays. A dive safari operator would always go to places with good conditions for divers. If it's possible to snorkel there as well, non-divers may do that, but if not, non-divers have to stay on board and wait for the divers to return. We had three dive guides. Their level of certification ranged from Dive Master to Instructor. Just my personal opinion briefly. In Raja Ampat, there are amazing dive sites where you can see beautiful coral reefs, sharks and manta rays. You don't want to snorkel there, but rather experience as much as possible in the limited time available. And that can only be achieved through diving on most dive spots. Best, Andreas

I can recommend the liveaboard Raja Laut: www.rajalaut.com/ To see which trips they offer in September you can check their website. Don't know if they or other liveaboards offer such short trips. I also don't know if it is possible to book it on spot. Normally the liveaboards are chartered by tour operators months or even years in advance.

1. Don't feed sharks! (no joke) 2. Don't touch sharks. Exception: If you have to push the shark away, you can touch it. 3. Stay with your group, don't dive separated from your buddy. 4. Don't swim horizontally. Change your position to vertical. Most sharks get confused by this. 5. Don't forget to bring your camera and shoot amazing footage! ;-)

@@MyownAccountisHere I hope you will have a fantastic dive at Elphinstone. Even if you don't see any sharks it is a great reef to dive. But it is very important that you have a reliable and trustworthy guide on our side who really knows Elphinstone. If you are scared or have doubts talk to your guide. And if you still don't feel well go and dive somewhere else. There are may beautifil spots in the area. Elphinstone is just one of them. The sharks aren't the real danger there. There are no dangerous sharks on this planet. Only dangerours situations. All too often caused by human behaviour... Sharks are wild animals that should be treated with respect. But much more important, when we are talking about Elphinstone is... The sometimes tricky currents and unreliable/inexperienced dive guides are the real problem. Of cause no one who works for a local dive base will tell you that. If you have less than 50 dives, don't go there. If you have trouble diving in current and open water, don't go there. If the dive base/liveaboard doesn't have reliable guides with lots of "Elphinstone experience", don't go there. If they don't offer an extensive shark and current briefing, don't go there. If you can't shoot a saftey stop buoy, don't go there. When it comes to the Longimanus sharks you can call yourself lucky if you see any of them. I have been there over 10 times and had only three dives where I could film them. By the way... This was my closest encounter. The lady shark checked if I am prey. Thank you so much for your advice! Panic underwater is my main issue so it's good to have clear, solid, advice that would calm me down😊

@@MyownAccountisHere I'm glad I could help you. One last advice: Don't go to any advanced places before you feel comfortable and safe underwater. Reaching this state takes time, but the time is needed to become a confident diver. So take your time and enjoy all the safe and easy spot at the southern Egyptian coast. I had to do more than 25 dives there before I felt ok underwater. And another 200 to learn that you never stop learning about diving... It is also important that you dive regularly. There is a big difference in experience level between people who did 500 dives in 10 years and people who needed 40 years for the same amount of dives.
