Hi! We're Joey and Dana! We're sisters making videos to talk about how our faith and who we are have informed the way that we think about the world. Most of our videos will focus on the intersection of Christianity and sexuality. We hope these videos encourage thoughtful dialogue about topics that matter.
“I’m looking forward to finding a church where I feel safe and welcome”. What exactly have CRC churches done to you that make you feel unsafe ? Have they threatened you physically ? Sounds like implied false accusations to me. Their not supporting your misinterpretations of the Bible doesn’t mean your are unsafe or unwelcome in a CRC church.
Not surprising given the context. Corbin attended Notre Dame (a well known Catholic school) and has talked about converting people to Catholism. She's also young and it's surprising how young people seem to have blinders on when it comes to their actions on social media. Hopefully Corbin has learned from her mistakes. If she does it again, she should be removed from the team.
Thank you for your well thought out and articulated analysis of this controversy. My heart’s prayer is LGBTQIA+ Christians will remain committed to who God made them to be no matter what others say or think, but also remain in deep relationship with God. I pray that they will not be pressured by “the church” or the gay community to forsake the God who formed them and loves them, and walks beside them - just like they are. There are churches that believe that all who believe in the saving grace of Jesus can be full participants and fully serve. I go to one of those churches. Thank you for your videos. They uplift me and give me hope. PS: Love your outtakes!
Yay, you're back! Makes my heart happy to see your vids. Such good points as always. What do you think are some ways that us LGBTQ Christians can reach out to church members that are struggling to love people who are different? How can we break down the stereotypes on which they justify their harmful behavior/reactions/statements? I always love flipping things around on them. Go against the preconceptions/expectations they have, and do exactly what they don't expect.
To me it's completely mystifying why anybody with the least self-respect would want to be part of a church like that. The fact that some (not all) Christians struggle with not judging despite obvious advice from their bible "do not judge lest you be judged" etc, etc, blah, blah, blah is absolutely extraordinary to me as practicing Hindu in a legacy christian country! Furthermore and even more to the point is the fact that a great many Christian denominations following the LIBERAL CHRISTIAN TRADITION ALREADY PERFORM SAME SEX MARRIAGE AND SO IT'S PROBABLY A HELL OF A LOT EASIER FOR THOSE GAY CHRISTIANS, etc to join those Christian communities from the get go and bypass the rest and just NOT get involved in THEIR DRAMAS and THEIR STRUGGLES! Go where you're best treated! By contrast in the Vedic/Sanatana Dharma/Hindu tradition their is absolutely no prohibition against Gay relationships and USA Mandirs (Hindu Temples) perform same sex marriage ceremonies and very much encourage full acceptance of sexual minorities. Not all Mandirs in all parts of the world take the same view and so sexual minorities may well be faced with having to look elsewhere if their needs are not accommodated more locally. It will be interesting to see how Mandirs in THAILAND respond to the new Same Sex Marriage laws coming into effect there this October 2024!
Thanks for highlighting this book! I read it in the past year and so appreciated learning from it. I’m always happy to see a new video pop up from you!
Adding this book to my cart now. Thank you both so much for bringing it to my attention. I so appreciate the content you're putting up and hearing your thoughts.
The church which is the people, need to be faithful to God's written word and His design for our lives. We need to preach the truth with grace, love and kindness.
So the arc was Romy went from openly homophobic to being quietly homophobic. That's the author's understanding of what it means to accept us Alphabet Mafia people? Can't say I am surprised. The author's other book Blade Silver was equally awful. As someone who had those struggles it was insulting to be told I just needed Jesus. Love the review ladies! And love from an Ace Christian <3
Congrats on your engagements Joey and Dana! Keep doing what you're doing from an Ace Christian! "It says it explicitly in the Bible!" If Conservative Christians actually took the tine to read their own Bible in the correct historical context they'd know that. But of course they won't. Because research and thinking is too hard for them. When read in the proper historical context, the passage against homosexuality were referring to male rape, not loving consensual homosexual relationships or any other LGBT relationships as we know them today. Thousands of animals exhibit homosexual behavior for a reason like strengthening pair bonds. It's clear that God created homosexuality because He saw it as good and that the wide array of human sexuality(providing everyone is consensual or no one is being hurt as in my case as well sex isn't on my radar.) showcases God's glory. So glad you're posting again!
Watching this as a Christian and someone LGBTQ+ was so eye opening about some of the toxic things people think and say because of religion. Thanks for making this 🙏❤️
Oh mannn I read so many books in this series as a teenager! Pitch Black fucked me up so bad. I won't be able to watch this video because of my own religious trauma about being secretly gay in a church that vocally called gay people pedophiles. But damn, blast from the past! I read Dark Blue, Deep Green, Torch Red, Pitch Black, Faded Denim, Moon White, and Harsh Pink. They were all at my Christian high school's library. Please, if you're interested in talking about other books from this series, try Moon White! It's about the dangers of wicca, lol.
I burst out laughing most of the video, I love the review of a super problematic book that the other didn’t read, and their live reaction to the insanity of it. Hilarious stuff
Hey, trans woman here. Just wanted to say thank you for this. This book was used as a recourse to "convert" me. While I completely respect Jackie and feel for her story, I think the way people use this book is wrong. Completely agree with your opinions. Thank you so much.
The law says “do not covet” When we covet a gender that we weren’t born with, we tell God that the identity we want is better than the one that He gave us. One day, there’s going to be a judgement for all our sins. Please, turn to Christ and He will forgive your sins, including covetousness.
The bible says homosexuality is sin. Jesus said homosexuality is sin, God says homosexuality is sin. Yawll not special...yawll need to repent just like anybody else committing sexual sin.smh
Revelation 21:8 (ESV) But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” But God demonstrates His love for us, in that while we were still (the “s” word) Christ died for us. He looked down to us, wicked, unworthy. He adopts us eternally. The Lord knows those who are His. Let those who name the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Yaaayyyy!! You're back :) Such a wonderful chat as always. And intersex visibility, too. You are both the best! Listen to them ya'll. This book is great! Also, everyone who watches this should subscribe.
Fantastic book review of a vital book! These conversations are so important. I really appreciate that you're elevating the voices and theology of trans* Christians. Keep up the great work, you two!
Hey y'all! Just so we're on the same page, we will be removing any transphobic comments. If you finish this video with unanswered questions, it's time to go check out Transforming! 😄
5:29... why? thinking and doing is the same with God... Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Hi Joey and Dana, been watching a couple of your videos recently. You two seem like really genuine and open, so I was wondering what you think of passages like Romans 1 where it seems that God is saying that homosexual relations are unnatural. Best, Derek
Just came by accident to your channel after searching for Heavenly Burdens by Bridget Eileen Rivera. I love your content (also as a straight guy) and how happy you are when pressing the car horn in the beginning of your videos. I am absolutely sure god loves you whoever you love. ❤
Lifeless and dead is a very Christian term! Paul speaks those words all the time we are al dead to sin. (I AM DEAD TO SIN) yet everyday I am renewed by the Spirit and so I must flea those sins and temptations and cling to Jesus the true giver of life because a life of sin is a life of death.
I don't think Jackie is saying there can be absolutely no overlap in (and pardon my terminology) the lgbtq2+ community and God. God is a God of love but He is NOT a God of acceptance. I believe anger is wrong, I believe watching porn is wrong, I believe gossiping and slandering is wrong and even though I do those sins God still loves me. But that doesn't mean He wants me to gossip and slander. God loves me but He still wants me to fight those sinful desires. And often times I don't want to. So yes God can be evident in an LGBQ2+ community but that does not mean He accepts it means He loves you and he wants you to run away from it and He is going to help you. That doesn't mean we never stumble in sin and by no means is someone going to hell because they are a homosexual. I may not be homosexual but I still have sins that I live in and don't want to give up. Yet the part of God's redeeming grace is that even when I stumble God still loves me and wants to help me. It seems a harsh reality and it seems that a lot of Christians slander the LGBTQ2+ community. I do not support the community myself but every person is loved by God and while I my not accept the fact that someone is indulging in homosexuality I will not shun them because I'm no better or worse then them. They are loved by God just as much as I am and Jesus sacrifice is there for them just as much as it is for me. So to conclude I think what Jackie is saying is that by indulging in homosexuality you are in a world of sin. And truthfully we cannot serve 2 masters we will ether hate one and love the other or vice versa. But humanity (and I am no exception to this) loves to try serve sin and God and although sin seems appealing. God is the only true place of freedom. So yes God loves the people in the LGBTQ2+ community but He does not support their cause because that is not how God created man to be. Perhaps my words sound harsh but regardless of what I say or anyone believes. WE ALL SIN!! But Jesus dies for ALL. And there is only one way to salvation and that I through Christ which means as enjoyable as sin can be only true freedom is found in Jesus Christ and we must flee our sins. EVERY SIN!! B/c no one is perfect and we all deserve hell but Jesus saves all that believe in Him (John 3:16)
No one should listen to Rosaria Butterfield. She never was a lesbian. She "became" when was a radical feminist. She holds a disgusting ideology that supports conversion therapy. NO ONE listen to that woman. You DO NOT become LGBT. Sexuality can be fluid for some people but even those who do believe sexuality can be fluid wholeheartedly believe you CANNOT change your orientation through prayer or any other nonsense. Your orientation is your what it is and cannot change.
Do you pick up your cross and follow God or you chose what's comfortable for your life and put Jesus into the box? I love you guys that's why I'm telling you Bible states it clearly, homosexuality is a sin.
The CRC upheld the Heidelberg confession. God bless them. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. We are all sinners. You two girls and me included. The church is not a showcase but a bodyshop for all of us. That is why we need a church to help us live by God's word.
Why not return to your European pagan roots? After all, you are two White women colonizing a Middle Eastern religion: Christianity. Your tribe has tried and failed to colonize the world to spread White Christianity by force and might either via empire building (Dutch East India company-capitalism) or wars (human rights-Vietnam; Iraq; Iran; Libya; Afghanisthan). Leave Christianity to the Africans, Brazilians, and Asians. Return to your pagan gods. Jesus was and is a Jew.
Im gay, I love God and I also love Jackie’s book. One thing you girls need to remember is that all our experiences, outlook, cultures and faiths are different. Thats what makes everyone unique. She wrote a book sharing how she feels, her views, and journey, if you dont like it fine but you are doing too much with your vid. Let people choose what they want, youre so entitled you had to make a video against a black woman’s decisions 🙄. You dont own her or any other lesbian minority who thinks differently. Do better.
Though I strongly disagree with the RU-vidrs here and their attempt to reconcile identifying with a sexual preference and an identity in Christ, I respect their freedom of speech. Regardless of someone’s “minority” status, they deserve to be able to share their thoughts and have a discussion in the marketplace of thought. What I see that wokeness often tries to do is shut down the discussion rather than engaging with the other side. If you do love God, you should be reasoning with people that you don’t agree with instead of demonizing them for mistreating minorities. That’s an ad hominem argument that attacks the person rather than the idea, and it’s not only illogical but it’s also deceptive if you’re doing that on purpose. Like I said, I don’t agree with these ladies, but please at least respect them enough to engage with their ideas and disagree in a respectful and intellectually honest way.
