New York City Center has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city since 1943. It was Manhattan's first performing arts center, dedicated by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia with a mission to make the best in music, theater and dance accessible to all audiences.
Today, City Center is home to many distinguished companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Manhattan Theatre Club; a roster of renowned national and international visiting artists; and our own acclaimed programs, including the Tony-honored Encores! musical theater series and the Fall for Dance festival.
In 2011 City Center completed an extensive renovation project to revitalize and modernize its historic theater.
Male ballet dancers will always conjure up a memory of my late dad one Christmas. He was watching the Nutcraker and got so bored with it he said: "Can't watch this anymore, nothing but a bunch a naked men dancers". So, my sister said: "Oh, then I want to watch it!". Well, guess you'd have to be there to see the humor of it all. LOL
По всей видимости, такая трактовка оригинальна! Есть смысл все время двигаться, искать новое прочтение! Но, должны быть все же границы! Гениальный Чайковский задумывал в своём шедевре все же иной смысл! 😮
Viewing this again after having watched Bourne's complete "Swan Lake" and after seeing a short video about Matthew Ball in his Royal Opera days. I was especially struck by brief clips of his practice with his partner at 3:19-3:21 and 4:08-4:10 - truly breathtaking in their intimacy and in the genuine beauty of the two men . . . tugged at my heart . . . .
An amazing video, amazing production, amazing dancers . . . . I've only seen snippets of the Bourne version, and I'm not knowledgeable about the story, so I was astounded to find that this an all-male version. What a brilliant idea - very like a high-wire act without a net. Bravo to Bourne for his faith in himself and his dancers. The homoerotic nature of it is so bold and yet fits perfectly with the story, while the young men dancing the leads are so natural and laid-back about the intimacy of some of the scenes that its possible to believe that's what Tchaikovsky had in mind. Many, many thanks to Matthew Bourne and his amazing dancers.
Ugh. Tell the video producer to refrain from the astoundingly annoying practice of playing a single song throughout on the audio track, while showing the cast performing all the other songs. Please. NOTE: We aren't stupid. We can see that it doesn't match up.
This semi-staged production must tour! It was a treat for the eyes as well as the ears. Bravo! I have finally seen “Titanic” on stage in New York City! And now I want to see it again on tour! Fantastic!
ENCORES! combination of Actors/Singers and orchestra is as close to perfection as we can witness on Earth! Encores! Orchestra leads the way in bringing back great Musicals, those persons behind the scenes and music are often in the shadows, but they deserve the ovation as well! A Revival begins with restoration of the original musical score, costuming, dance, rehersals, onward to awesome musicians, led by a Musical Director (usually one of New York's finest) than the Cast with superior music becomes the voices and movement of a performace deserving standing Ovation to all within Encores!
