only being a 'recent' resident of Bournemouth, I've always enjoyed the variety and stock movements at Bournemouth station, have to say tho, this looks incredbly exciting. Coming from Hastings it was really amazing to see a diesel familar to me from there as well. Excellent video, so glad you uploaded it and happy to have found/watched. No doubt, many more viewings for me as well :)
Loved this video. Brings back so many happy memories of holidays in Weymouth. Travelling from Banbury to Bournemouth by a class 47 . Then class 33 with a TC unit to Weymouth.
awww i can’t help but kind of think that this poor 4Tc is missing his lifelong old pal (REP) where they used to share those glorious express diagrams up to waterloo. still really lovely and but kind of the slow end to an era!! what’s mad is that the new days were just beginning with the wessex electrics, and now..they have been retired!!!! goodness..where have all those years gone guys!!
Well I might say your wrong as I was a train driver at Bournemouth,You can easily check this by the gradient board by Branksome Station on the Up side, or any railway documentation issued to Drivers and Guards ,to be precise it's the country end of the up platform.
Blimey, at 10.00 the 33 with a 94 headcode, obviously bound for points west. When I was growing up in the 50s 94 was the headcode of the local Victoria-Coulsdon North service I used to catch from Thornton Heath to East Croydon to visit my Gran...I can still see the 4-SUB clattering into platform 1 and, in the other direction, rattling out from under the road overbridge now dominated by Tramlink, into East Croydon's platform 1, now of course the province of fast, rather than slow services.
I was also curious to see those thumper power cars at Weymouth with that carriage in between. It definitely was a class 201 Hastings power cars with a departmental vehicle between . Strange that it's that far west . Not sure but maybe it was on a working to or from Eastleigh works on a test .maybe testing the power cars . I'm not 100 % sure though. Great historic video though , I've just bought a dvd with Weymouth in the early 80s . Great stuff for prosperity.
What a gem of a video. There are some interesting train movement there, especially with the interregional trains, guessing this was after they stopped terminating at Poole. Another interesting shot of a Thumper set with an odd coach sandwich between. Can anyone shed any further details about this. 33s and 4TC sets, what more could you ask for.
