I have repeatedly said there should be NO RETRIAL, even though I personally believe Kartel was guilty. So why no retrial if I believe he was guilty???? Because when it comes to justice my personal feelings, beliefs and opinions do not matter. The CREDIBILITY, TRUST and BELIEF in the Jamaican Justice system is PARAMOUNT. 1) There was not just one mistake, but MULTIPLE mistakes made on the part of the Prosecution. 2) Please bear in mind Kartel and his co-accused had already served 13 years in prison. So, it is not as if they got away scot free. 3) Between 2011 and when any retrial would have concluded, the best part of HALF A BILLION JAMAICAN DOLLARS of taxpayer money would have been spent on this case. 4) It is absolutely IMMORAL that the Jamaican Government was prepared to spend this amount of taxpayer money on ONE case, to prove a POLITICAL POINT, when there are so many other cases stuck in the Jamaican justice system that this money could be spent on 5) In addition to this, just think of the hundreds of things a Government can do for the betterment of the Jamaican public with HALF A BILLION JAMAICAN DOLLARS. 6) If Defendants have to privately fund their own defence, then in cases such as this, so should the Prosecution have to privately fund said prosecution (Via GoFundMe if necessary). This is especially true where the Prosecution have abused, misused and mishandled public funds in such an irresponsible and incompetent way. 7) Once Prosecutors become clearly political it undermines the whole criminal justice system in Jamaica. The public began to see that this Vybz Kartel case had become EXTREMELY POLITICAL AND NO LONGER HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH JUSTICE. It is important that not only must justice be blind, fair, reasonable and responsible, but it must be SEEN to be as such. Once the public loses faith and trust in its justice system, that is the beginning of the end of any democracy, because all successful democracies are underpinned by a justice system that the public TRUST! I am very concerned that this acquittal was ONLY POSSIBLE BECAUSE THE DEFENDANTS HAD THE MONEY TO FUND THEIR APPEAL (99% of Defendants don't). In life when we (Government) make mistakes, we MUST be able to put up our hands and admit we made a mistake(s). In light of all these facts, the ACQUITTAL AND DISMISSAL OF THIS CASE (IN MY HUMBLE OPINION) WAS THE RIGHT DECISION..... And that is coming from someone who believes Vybz Kartel was GUILTY!
