He’s the best - & nowadays in his interviews - unless you’re actively looking for it - you can’t hear or see any speech impediment … he’s a pro on & off the ice & he’s probably the only guy on the roster that you’re always getting 110% from on the ice
The crowd was already so loud just because Mario was on the ice, then it got so much louder when he goes on breakaway... but when he scored, wow! It goes up another 100 levels! What a moment! The crescendo in the crowd gives me chill every time.
Lemuiex Gretzky and Gordie are the three best plays ever in the nhl even people that are good currently like crosby mcdavid jagr dont come close to those three dont ask me why im canadian
I remember this like it was yesterday. What made this extra emotional is that the Flyers were clearly much better than the Penguins , even in this game. It was clear that Philly was going to eliminate the Pittsburgh in the next game or game after which made this extra bittersweet. Because they got this game and Lemieux had this moment at home, fighting valiantly against their inevitable defeat. Of course, as we all know, Lemieux would return and do even more amazing feats a few years later, scoring at an insane clip which solidified the hard reality that while Gretzkys numbers are in a different universe, no one was as good as Lemieux when he played.
They were letting up absurdly low numbers of shots that playoffs. They were just swarming teams defensively, had the best two players in the world offensively, and everyone brought something to the table. Easily the best team post-salary cap. 2011 Bruins were crazy good, too, but this team was better.
Crosby of course with the clean face off win, Letang with the great pass, Sheary with the great shot and Hornqvist with the perfect screen. What a team those 2016 & 2017 Pens were :)
Gretzky is the Great One, but to me, Mario Lemieux was hockey’s Michael Jordan. A special attraction that comes along once in a lifetime. The number of breathtaking goals he scored in his career is simply incredible. The Magnificent One!
I was 10 when this happened. There was no social media back then. 10 year olds didn't know shit. I came home from school and my step-dad told me Lemieux was coming back to play that night. I was convinced he was lying. This game is a core memory for me.
Nobody was/is/will ever be WAY better than 99. I can accept your opinion that he was better but WAY better? No way. Only 2 Cups and he was well surrounded. Gretz got 4 in 5 years 🤷♂️
Lemieux was one of the BEST natural goal scorers - better that Grezt, even Wayne said so. Wayne also had a passion for the game, Mario liked it enough, but not to the same level - same as Larry Bird, who was naturally good, but didn't have the passion that MJ had for the game.
@@jogendron6320 maybe you can adult enough to tell me where i am wrong? Larry Bird was 'good' at basketball, but lacked the determination of MJ to become a god at the sport
Even to this day when I see this clip I still remember it like it was yesterday. Standing in front of my tv in my apartment unable to sit down for the last half of the 3rd period nervous that he was running out of time to score. Then this play happened and I went nuts, screaming and jumping around like a crazy person. Even after all these years watching this still gives me chills and brings back those memories so clearly. He was magnificent to watch.
