Half of what this guy said is bullshit, Most of these stories they come up with are the ones that they’ve made up since it became a museum ship, those of us that served on it during the war love these videos they come up with, Because they’re volunteers don’t listen to the actual vets that were on board

It was said that the FFG-62 Constellation will arrive in 2025 or 2026. Recently, the USN admitted that it would be at least three years late. And, of course, it's over budget. This is for a version of the FREMM that's been in service, with other navies, for over 10 years. The U.S. Navy originally said there would only be a 15% change from the existing design so it could be produced quickly and cheaply. Now, they admit there will only be 15% in common with the basic FREMM design. "Quick" and "cheap" went out the window a long time ago. So don't start holding your breathing waiting for the new Connie.

You're wrong about it being the last sailing warship. The frigate USS Constitution still sails, was never decommissioned, and is older than the Constellation.

Far as i know, the "snorkel" was a dutch invention, together with the multiple hull design! It was captured by the germans when hey invaded the Netherlands in 1940, and captured some dutch subs still in construction!

The ship is made of white oak. White oak takes 200 years to mature. There’s only one place in the U.S. that supplies this wood. It’s a protected forest owned by the U.S. Navy. It’s in Southern Indiana.

Regarding the spot in the video where the plaques on the bulkhead display the names of the officers and crew assigned to the ship when she was first comissioned; Those men would forevermore be known historically as “Plankholders”. A term dating back to the days of wooden hulled “man o war” ships.

I can answer the wooden deck no they normally don't the reason the navy keep putting wooden decks on ships was insulation the wood keep the inside cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter since the end of the ww2 boats and the draft era so 70-80s all US boats have air conditioning in most spaces so the need for a labor intensive teak deck is minimal I believe the last active serving sips with wooden decks (save some special ships) was it Iowa class battleships and they only stuck around as long as they did because of Regan and the big expensive middle finger to the soviets the coffee thing it wasn't so much the pot was always on but in ww2 the submarines got real ground coffee the navy didn't always get that another reason is water was limited and guys would drink coffee where water wasn't as popular so it helped keep guys hydrated somewhat better (coffee isn't the best at hydration and this is more tribal knowledge and an actual fact)

I took a private tour on this ship back in the 1980s. Sit back and let me tell you my story. I was in Balt. for business, I was in my probably late 20s. It was a week day most peeps were at work. I was parked near the ship and went over to take a look at it. I boarded the ship maybe 2 or 3 peeps were on it but were leaving. I was invited down into the ship by the guy giving the tour, a black gentleman about my fathers age maybe mid 50s maybe, he didnt look that old. My father was also a WW2 vet. When we went down below he showing me around telling what each dial and control was for. I was asking him about this and that just out of curiosity the dude was going into so much detail and knew the ship inside and out. So we struck up a conversation and I was asking him about his background and asked if he was a vet. Turns out he was a WW2 vet in the Navy in the thick of the action as he was stationed on the USS Saratoga in the pacific as it was attacked by Torpedoes and Kamikazee attacks. I remember him going into detail about what was happening, but its been so long I can't remember the details now. But I do remember being impressed by his knowledge, his humbleness and his first hand accounts. I was on that ship for probably 40 min. And left the ship thinking thats one cool dude. I could tell he enjoyed his job, because he could have said lets get more peeps before we start the tour but offered me a private tour. The guy made my day and made a big impression on me as its been 40 years and I still remember him and the cool tour.

I live 10 minutes away. Of the 4 museum ships this one looks the most unkept. They're always pumping water out of her, there's dents every inch of the hull, and they don't give tours anymore. And they removed her name.

I live 10 minute walk away. If you didn't mention was the original USS Constellation we're still ship seaworthy, but the navy needed less frigates and more swoop-of-war, so the original is taking the car and used to play with that one. Still retaining the originals French given nickname "The Yankee race horse" for her speed.
