Great tribute Doc. I have an idea for you. Maybe learn Alice's Restaurant for Thanksgiving? Although with your skills you probably already know it. Don't have to do full 18 minutes but maybe the chorus? This is a great video - Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant (Live at Farm Aid 2005) 👍
Kris and Rita were such an amazing couple for me. We named our first daughter, who died two years ago after their daughter. Our Casey was born four months later than their daughter. I’ve sung his and her love songs to my wife for over 50 years.
Hey Bret, this was Tracy B’s favorite song when it first came out. And Tracy was my favorite girl at the time. Sweet memories! Thanks for the complimentary words, my friend. Doc
Beautiful Doc. My father Robert loved this song and I covered it with my brothers about a year ago. I'd be thrilled if you check it out. Thanks 🙏 👍 Why Me (Kris Kristofferson) - Cover by The Paganucci Brothers
A fine tribute to Kris Kristofferson, Doc. I heard about this sad news just the other day. Such a legendary singer songwriter but left us wonderful memories of his tunes. Thanks for posting this. :-)
Hey doc, somehow I stumbled across your channel 🎉 i think it’s because I’ve been watching guitar lessons. Here’s a few of my unsolicited thoughts about your channel. 1) using the mic is a great idea. It makes the quality of your voice easier to hear. I like your voice! 2) pointing the camera inside the tool shed inside towards the driveway is better. It kind of looks like a set. Almost like you designed it. To me, the tool shed is a part of your image. It’s made me think I need to step my game up with that. 3) your guitar: I’m sure it’s your favorite. My opinion is I’d like to see a more beautiful guitar. Just for visuals. Since I’m experiencing your music visually. 4) your hat: if anyone told me to change my hat, I’d tell them to piss off. But there are some really cool hats out there, maybe get a few more? Maybe wear sunglasses occasionally to create some mystery. 5) check out Carter Vintage guitars your tube channel. Check out their video set. If you could figure out a way to create more of a music set and some cool mystery with your image, I bet your viewer count would go up. You’re so talented. That’s if you even care about all that. I sound like one of those music hacks in Nashville. I could be totally off base. Either way, great playing man! You inspire me 🎉
Jason, I sure do appreciate your suggestions. I do want to to direct you to a previous video I made just a few weeks ago regarding the purpose of this channel. Thank you so much for watching and listening to my music. It means a lot to me. Doc
Thanks Bret. This song is deep and rich with meaning but you have to be willing to do the research to actually plumb the depth of its worth. I’m looking forward to your next video my friend. Doc
Very nice, Doc. You really put a lot of emotion into this old traditional tune. It’s a song that I enjoy listening to and I just might give it a try. I see you brought out old “Gym” that your luthier brother made for you. Great story behind that cigar style guitar. Sounds wonderful. Really enjoyed your take on this song! :-)
Thanks Bret. I sure wish you could hear my daughter sing this song; she sings it the way the angels sing it. Old Gym loves the old songs and he needed a little love so I cut him loose on a few tunes. I’ll be looking forward to your take on “Wayfarin’ Stranger”. Thanks again. Doc
Hey there William! Thanks for the compliment. If you haven’t done so, you should watch my video titled “Gym”. In that video I give you the story of how this guitar named “Gym” came to be. Keep those fingers limber my friend, folks love to hear you play. Doc
To be sure, John was a poetic treasure. I miss his presence. But you’re correct, his music is kept alive at the “pickin” I attend every other week. We play a lot of John Denver songs. Doc
I've always been fond of this John Denver melody. The simplicity of your workshop background outshines any elaborate graphics. Continue playing in the same manner you always have, without any bells and whistles. Another outstanding performance! :-)
Wouldn’t it have been something to grow up with all those great Texas singer/songwriters in your backyard. Lyle has written some wonderful songs and this one is just fun. Thanks Bret. Doc
Yet another splendid song, Doc! Your performance and vocals are outstanding, and your fingerpicking technique is truly remarkable. It's wonderful to experience these classic melodies from you once more, my friend! :-)
We dispense with the “old” too quickly, sometimes, just to make room for the “new”. My fingers seem to prefer the “old” stuff. Thank you Bret, I truly appreciate your insightful and complimentary comments. Doc
The beauty of this song is undeniable, and the strength you've shown in overcoming your health challenges is truly inspiring. This remarkable performance will undoubtedly become a treasured memory for your children. Outstanding job, Doc!
Thanks so much Bret. My daughter told me I needed to learn some Avett Bros. music. So far this is all I have. But there’s so much good music to learn from so many songwriters it’s just hard to settle on which one to learn next. Thank you for your generous moral support; it’s priceless. Doc
This really touched my heart, Doc. You're a kind, humble man performing these videos for your children and grandchildren. I agree with you, autumn is the best time of the year. Keep playing the songs your way and you don't need all the fancy technology; you don't need it. I'm glad you're feeling much better, that's great news! I'll be retiring soon, and I would love to come out and visit you one of these days, just to sit around and chat, maybe pick a few chords together. You're a fine man, Doc, a *very* fine man. :-)
Oh Bret, you remind of the old saw “I wish I was the man my dog thinks I am.” God has been immeasurably better to me than I deserve; we call that “grace”. I have a wonderful wife and I still don’t know why she picked me to marry; I certainly didn’t deserve her. We have 4 grown children that have made us proud, and 4 great-grandchildren we love to spoil. And don’t you know, I’m still making friends and discovering new brothers. Thank you, my friend. And, indeed, we need to make some music together, brother! Doc
I hope you are well Doc. I think we are around the same age 66 and I've dealt with a few health issues myself. You are more advanced than me with technology, I don't even have a mic. I always enjoy your music. I just returned to NJ after visiting my mom in FL and recorded a few videos that I will upload soon. 🎶 🙏 👍
