This is amazing. I listened to them blind and it was so helpful. Hilarious to me that the pirastro obligato strings reminded me of my viola, because I have those strings on there 🤣 My top pick from my blind study was Pirastro Evah Pirazzi, with Infeld Blue faring pretty well, though I thought it sounded thin and weak in the upper register. (I've been playing on D'Addario Helicore strings on my violin)
0:35 There is a photo in this video that shows the correct winding of the strings on the pegs. There are few places where it can be done as well as here.
All of the D'addario Orchestral Bowed Stringed Instrument Strings are basically Flatwound. Fun fact Flatwound strings came as early as 1874 (by Hamilton) to replace the Gut strings on Bowed stringed instruments because 1) they hold tune better, 2) they last many times as long, & 3) the flat surface increases the contact area w/ the bow resulting in faster bow responce.
BTW The High A String on the Kaplan Viola String sets isn't a Plain Steel String like what you'd find on the High E String of the Kaplan Violin String sets, it's actually a Wound String (like the rest). The Aluminum & Titanium Wrap Wires soften the tone of that String a little bit so it doesn't sound as thin.
Some musicians prefer the softness of a Synthetic Core A String, but they could use a CodaBow Joule w/ Coruss Synthetic Bow Hair & D'addario Clarity Rosin to get a good responce.
First violin I hear that sounds amazing and pleasant with Obligatos 😯 that must be a very bright sounding violin. Thank you for this video! Still incredibly helpful even after almost a decade xD
In my opinion it's better to compare strings with their durability , playability, and response time when bowing not how they sound because there are many factors like bridge, sound post place and the violinist...that are responsible for the sound. Even the room you play ... if you listen this with eyes closed can't recognize which is which.
I have Pro Arte on one violin and yes they are great for their price. Warchal Ambers on another which are also mellow and dark; I really like them but don't expect them to project like Visions.
So I guess the human mind can recognize over 2000 instruments, even if they're all playing middle C at 440 Hertz. Sonically. However on paper, then we can't! Even extreme timbre differences look " almost the same " on paper! Even though the difference is easy (sonically) like A/B/C/D/E all sound different here, and we can use this video as a reference point to locate which violin string x player is using in a solo performance (sometimes, if they're using one of these strings), ...I think some people can't hear the difference, i.e. " tone deaf ", common. Just as common as color blindness. This is a cool demonstration of violin strings, " sub-instruments ". I also watched a violin solo performance and located that she was playing the Obligato G violin string. Maybe an A.I. software can do that later, although just sayin', we can do 'anything' an A.I. software can including identifying 50 violin strings via practice. The human mind is a 'software' which can attain x/y/z via practice.
Obligato gold plated e best for me and never whistled recently i got Thomastik PI e string started whistling also broken while playing slow song in 2 months. Best string i've been tested is obligato for me but i find coated strings of obligato not reliable.
Kudos for breaking in each of the strings before making the recording, and plays them instead of taking precious time to talk about them. Your attention to detail is outstanding!
I have dominant Thomastic Infeld on my violin but my E-string sounds crapy sometimes, it could be just my violin, it feels like the Pirastro Gold E string sounds more focused and more subtle, which has that kinda smooth to hear. Maybe i will getting the the Pirastro Gold E
According to what I heard the comparison in this video, I think Infeld blue Dominant and warchal are the best of them . Of course, my decision is based on my taste only, and this does not mean that everyone should take what I have decided

Guess your Violin could use some Wittner fine tune pegs so you can eliminate fine tuners from the Tailpiece like on the Viola, & a Wittner peg winder should help
