Clear and blatant inconsistency in refereeing a match is BY FAAAR more detrimental to the sport than time wasting. In cricket - if the umpire gives a wrong decision, the off field check simply overrules the umpires decision. No ego. In football - Ref makes a wrong decision, and VAR isn't even supposed to intervene. Height of ego and patronising behavior. Punishment for kicking the ball... its like as if the players are assaulting an old woman's head or something. Lets just abandon all human emotions, have 22 robots and fill the stadium seats with Wall-Es. Losing interest in this fixed sport.

League cup crowds are basically preseason crowds, particularly in the early games; there's thousands of empty seats and of the seats that are full a lot of them are families or people who don't normal go so the general vibe/atmosphere is just a lot more relaxed.

The thing is, it’s not strictly the kicking of the ball that is sanctioned in the letter of the law but the delaying of a restart… Which in this particular case doesn’t even apply because by the time the ball gets back to the foul position Bernardo Silva is still on the ground, so nothing had been delayed by Trossard’s kick of the ball. Even in Rice’s second yellow, the delay needs to be “excessive’. Not to mention that by the same letter of the law Veltman was guilty twice already for how he 1) touched and then 2) kicked the ball in the same incident. It’s all made up decisions on the spot. Then, Oliver has handed more red cards to Arsenal than to any other club (including that double Martinelli incident); Oliver has handed less bookings to City than to any other club (let’s not forget the Kovacic incident); Oliver is a known die-hard Newcastle fan, appointed to officiate an Arsenal game when Arsenal is level on points with Newcastle; Oliver has been paid by City owners to officiate in the UAE; 85% of referees are from the North, and aside of when Russian money was flowing in, PL titles stay North. Mind you, allegiance plays only a minor part: even if, say, Kavanagh doesn’t support Manchester clubs, his wife and kids, friends, etc still live there and may be subject to bullying as a consequence of his refereeing. In Serie A referees cannot even be from the same region of either club playing (let alone live 15’ from Old Trafford like Taylor). Etc etc. Assuming PGMOL always acts in good faith, it’s at least utterly incompetent.
I'm so proud of our players. After a DIABOLICAL referereeing performance (yet again) that was riddled with inconsistent calls, plus the injuries to key players like Martin Odegaard, the deck was MASSIVELY stacked against us and we STILL took points off the champions in the league. Screw this rhetoric that Arsenal played "cowardly", we adapted to make the worst out of a very dire situation. This team adapts, meanwhile Ctiy's team complains. I could not be prouder of the Arsenal.
This reminds me of the league cup semi v Liverpool. Xhaka sent off early . Hung on. Gave the team belief that they can compete with that team . Yeah they lost the 2nd leg but that was the turning point v them

You guys are there first ones to mention that the time between the whistle blow and Trossards kick was less than a second. I rewatched it and stopped the time. It was between 0,5 and 0,7 seconds. It is impossible that he stopped in that time because he made the decision to clear the ball before he heard the whistle. It’s a scandalous decision.
Now to hopefully see a strong win on Thursday. 🤞 Jonas can't afford to miss out on CL again IMO He'd really be on last chance saloon with WSL win or bust, for me. Conti Cups aren't good enough with the level of investments he was backed with across several seasons.
I was more disappointed by the result of the Ladies than the guys tbh. Especially when we had TWO 1 on 1 clear cut chances, the 2nd with an easy pass for a tap in. 🫤 Oh well, at least we came back after trailing. Still a fun day out at the Emirates, mind you. :)
