Very intelligent reasoning and a thoughtful approach to this new initiative from The Black List. Impressed with the strategic consideration and exploration that went into this pre-lauch. Looking forward to seeing how quickly it proves efficacious for authors and for Hollywood.
Hey, my name is Lucy, yesterday I got a call from a guy his name was Bill, and he is telling me that he was a book acquisition for publishing companies. How can I find out if he is for real
Be wary of anyone who contacts you out of the blue, as that's not how publishing generally works. Feel free to send details about what happened to staff@authorsguild.org
my ebooks have words changed in each one as a hidden fingerprint. if I find the copy on the internet, that person goes on my wall of shame and is sued. Since my ebooks target certain professionals, the wall of shame is a bigger deterent than being sued and facing criminal prosecution.
These are great tips--so many. I love the idea of sending ARCs with personal notes to ask for reviews from the author's team. But where to ask that they post them? Amazon? Goodreads? Will the former accept reviews? Do you include links?
Rebecca Matte provided lots of contract + negotiating tips! It’s wonderful this information is NOT behind a paywall or the Authors Guild members-only access!
This is full of excellent information! I too especially enjoyed the section where he recommended the re-frame toward thinking about yourself as the CEO of your writing business.
Thanks for this. I’m gonna rewatch it and keep trying to get an agent. Can you talk about the money(in general) for an adult crime novel? What is the process leading up to payment?
Would it be possible for a book club to choose a colouring book? One with a mindfulness mini curriculum as part of it? Colour and learn about mindfulness as you work through the pages. Thanks
I wish this was viable for me. But I fear starving to death. As for Vela, it's just another way Amazon has figured out to steal content and for fractions of a penny on the dollar. Sub-stack at 10 bucks a month. I just don't see it happening. I know some people make money off of it. But thinking in large numbers you quickly see that nobody is making money off of it.
This was so helpful. Thank you for sharing! I'm curious how everyone handles editing. Do you work with a freelance editor, or edit everything on your own?
Sorry to be negative, but this video had numerous website and ad vendor recommendations that were mentioned barelly audibly and with no spelling shown. What a pain in the midst of helpful material!😢
This video was eye-opening to me. I've long wanted to make a living as a poet. I had no idea that many of the opportunities in this video even existed (ie Narrative Medicine) Thank you for sharing this.
WOW. That was SOOoooooo informative!!!! Exactly the information I needed to understand how Substack works and why it could be (no doubt WILL be) a better platform for me than the methods I currently use to connect with my audience. Very much appreciate this content, thank you!!!
