Does it wash off easy with shampoo!? Reason I’m asking is that I’ve had horrible experiences with Baxter for example ! That thing took me 3 shampoo washes to get it off! I assume since this is water based you don’t have that issue ?
What do you expect from a hair gel mate..? Its not a magic filter, it's a sticky material to keep your hair in place 😅 Also, (seriously now) American crew are in general the best hair products for that money out there (and i have used many different brands over the years!) If AC is crap as you say, what about Loreal, Wella, Label.M or kerastase hair gels? Absolute disaster.... Even though i have to agree with you about the AC ''light hold styling gel''- its a really wierd product, i completely disagree on ''firm hold''one ; It is a great hair gel (much better that those mentioned above), and i will continue using it, until i find something equally good.
My hair is actually thin that if i wet my hair and use pomade the pompadour doesnt form properly. My scalp is seen alot easier, the hold isnt there at the front. By the way my pomade is MEDIUM HOLD and looks like as if it hasnt bonded properly when hair is wet. I emulsify it but same result. It looks kinda greasy so maybe its "too soft" with wet hair

Wetting my hair works for me as well. It also holds better. When i put product on dry hair, it goes all over the place and flyaways are everywhere... yuck! My hair is long by the way.
I use gel, paste, and hairspray. The problem is that if you work around many people/coworkers, they can smell all that, so I try to find fragrance-free hair products.
Thisone might be a bit of a classy aproach of them on pomades. I really can give you the advice, try JS SLOANE Caviar Matte Clay, my absolute Favorite, and maybe also JS SLOANE Matte Cream (this one I use as pre-styler or if I make my hair really quick, it is super easy to work in, but gets a good grip later) The Reuzel Extreme Hold Matte Pomade is also extremely good (silver / grey bottle) Cheers! I have been growing out my hair since the pandemic and now its time to cut it. I think im going for the good ol slick back but with lots of hair. Not only do I hate it when a gel type product has a high hold, I still find these little tiny stray hairs and not only does it look weird (to me anyway) it feels weird too! And you can't really restyle it.
