It a money grab, they want you riding transportation system or drive your car paying taxes and fees...I'm for insurance...what about all the cars and trucks that hit and run
Just require manufactures to build a blutooth system into the ebikes .the bike can then detect another bike present using blu tooth indicating a human within 30ft or whatever is suitable. The brakes could be automatically applied and power cut until the bike slows to 10kmph or 6 mph.i originally was thinking that it could be an app on a cell phone that could indicate a human was near, but I feel that could be abused . It's an fairly easy fix and banning is completely unnecessary this can be implemented for less than 100 bucks for manufacturers.
It's not super-rare for kids (even some adults) get seriously injured and even killed on bicycles, scooters and skateboards, but no one seriously talks about banning them. Ok, riders are often made by municipalities to wear helmets. Then, collisions with pedestrians and others on sidewalks & other locations happen, so they ban riding on sidewalks. Ok... The big thing ebikes add is possible higher speeds (and possibly longer braking b/c of often greater mass on a e-conversion of bikes that don't have disc brakes). This is a tricky gray area, especially since a lot of ebike riders are younger, and don't have very good sense of situations, of self, and of OTHERS. Maybe restrict the speeds of younger ebike riders?? Maybe even to speeds below that of class 1, say, to speeds less than 15mph?? Toughie! [Adults ebike riders can, of course, be sued. No different if it were a regular bicycle. But if someone dies or suffers grave harm from a collision with an adult-ridden ebike, and it can be shown that the rider was reckless, then criminal charges can come into play. Again, no different from, say, rider on a bicycle (ex, if a cyclist is whizzing down a mountain at 45mph, collides with and kills a hiker walking on the shoulder.. I'd say that rider is exercising reckless disregard for the safety of others! So, I don't think any new laws or new ordinance has to be imposed... Cops warn bicyclists all the time when they are riding at unsafe speeds for a given situation.. Should be no different for ebikes.]
If the price of the Titanium one is about $2000 I would think about it. But not for $3000+, for a product that hasn't been tested extensively and looked unfinished!
Haha I’m 38 and going to get back into bmx. I had a mongoose menace back in the day and rode every single day. I was into bmx from about 10-18. Man I’m so excited to get back into it
I'm old enough to remember when America was a free country. People made stupid decisions and sometimes paid the price for those bad decisions. Now the Government has to be everybody's nanny. I'm sure there will be a cost for the license and of course registration & Insurance will be required. We're one of the least free countries around and getting worse all the time. The older I get the better other countries look to retire in.
1:02 Cmon! There are people out there with more money than brains, talent,common sense. Admit it! These are the ones that are ruining it for people who can respect the power that these bikes can put out. Careless riding and just plain screwing around is all it took.
