Loved this. Glad to see it, even if it’s a year later! My question about the book content is, how much can anyone discuss the past without approval by The Estate? Andrew mentions in interviews that future Wham promoting/decisions (and maybe even the Netflix documentary) hinges on collaborating with George’s family/lawyers. I know this is his book, but he seems to honor these ties that bind. I’d love love love to interview Andrew off the record. I can only imagine the stories; and wow, I have so many questions.

Thank you for making this podcast!!! I also love that your British it felt like home😂😂😂😂. I believe that in the book Robyn doesn't reveal everything in the book and lets the reader read between the lines. Also both of you were spot on about Cissy and Bobby. Bobby was doing drugs before he met Whitney. Robyn and Silvia were the only people that cared about her. Whitney was a beautiful woman with a talented but I always believed something happened in her childhood that Whitney never healed from.

It's such a sad story and we are so glad that Whitney had Robyn by her side. It's just a shame they got separated later on. Whitney was a beautiful, talented woman who was let down by the people around her. RIP but at least we have her amazing voice to listen to forever ⭐️

I agree with you 100%, much to my surprise. He is an intelligent man, so I feel he’s underestimated fans feeding them with just a little something. As much as I appreciate him and believe he’s a sweetheart… why? Not a money issue, for sure.

I’m a huge Streisand fan… but I liked Judi’s performance of “Send In The Clowns” best. Also loved watching her in “As Time Goes By” on U.S. television back in the ‘90s. Our PBS channel then aired quite a number of Brit TV programs, comedies and dramas…

Wow, you have no idea how much entertainment you’ve brought me from your reviews… I didn’t think I’d like this review. Not a book I would choose to read I guess, I thought. As wild though as a book like this is, it sounds like a really good read. Thanks again for all your efforts. Much appreciated!

Continued (4) My favorite part of the book might be the story of getting lost on Saddleworth Moor and seeing a ghost. Runners-up for the title - his grandmother's funeral / everything about Kirsty. (5). He may not fit the proper definition of "racist" but, in the minds of the present-dsy "establishment", his conservative attitudes re immigration-management, religion and cultural identity (which lead to his flirtation with Britain First) are inseparable from racism. Same goes for John Lydon presumably. (6). FWIW several years ago on Morrissey-solo, a pseudonymous alleged ex-manager claimed that the real reason Morrissey is so irritable/demanding about money matters is because he's spent most of his adult life generously supporting his secret offspring in America. (So the man widely assumed to be gay is not only technically bisexual, whether he accepts that term of not, but perfectly capable of reproducing without having to do it the Michael Jackson/Liz Fraser way). At least that's one of the more palatable rumours about "Morrissey's secrets" - you can seek out the others if you've got too much spare time...
@thriftshopbio
@thriftshopbio 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your comments! He's such a controversial figure. With only a week to read each book we can't get as in-depth as we'd like, and this man has brought up the most issues, I think. We've both since realised his anti-immigration stance, for one, and it's awkward at best. He does talk about a female relationship in this book, so that doesn't surprise me. And we keep finding out really nice stories about the other half of his band that he seemed to hate. Does make you question. Wonderful book, though; the man's got a way with words. ~ Cleo
@trashandcheese3636
@trashandcheese3636 4 месяца назад
We should clarify a few things - there are parts of the book where Morrissey gets a bit too paranoid and/or self-defensive: (1). The story he tells of The Smiths, under the influence of early manager Joe Moss, freezing him out in New York and seemingly planning to oust him from the band, has no evidence to support it - and he's definitely conflating elements of two American tours (i.e: the first one, and the '86 one with all the disasters). (2). All the knowledgable journalists who wrote about the lawsuit seem to be in agreement that the Partnership Act with its presumptions of equal divisions of earnings inevitably should apply to music-business contracts. And during the court case, Morrissey is often reported as having been a serial breacher of protocol, being repeatedly threatened with "contempt of court" charges for - basically - treating the court as if it were a press conference, talking to the QCs and the judge as if they were journalists (all rhetoric and sarcasm and "these questions are too time-consuming!") (3). Surprisingly they said nothing of his pen portraits in the first half of the book - the sketches of Johnny Daly (RIP), Anji Harding (RIP), and James Maker (still here).
@thriftshopbio
@thriftshopbio 4 месяца назад
Blimey, you sound like a real expert on Morrissey! We are mere amateurs and only have his word to go on. I have since thought a lot about how much moaning he did in this book rather than take charge of himself and his life. I guess he wouldn't be Morrissey if he was any different, ay?
