Yes! Go to Menu -> Record -> Rec L,R -> set to Off or Off & Linked. (The linking function is used primarily when you're feeding a camera or another mixer from the 3.5mm Stereo Out TRS port on the left hand side. If you're not sending out the L or R bus to another piece of gear, it doesn't matter if you set it to Off or Off & Linked.)
Let's say you want to keep a dry recording without Noise Assist. I'm guessing you can do this by applying the Noise Assist to the Mix, then the original input would still be recorded dry. Right? Which also makes me wonder if the reverse is true. If you turn it on Input 1, would that still leave the Mix dry?
Hey Joe! Your first assumption is correct, If you apply NoiseAssist to the L or R Mix Bus (or both), you can sustain a clean ISO track recording while also recording an "assisted" Mix track (or tracks). However, the reverse is NOT true. Once NA is applied, the ISO track passes through to the Mix WITH the effect present. You can see this laid out in the block diagram of the MixPre-3 II here: cdn.sounddevices.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/MixPre-3-II-Block-Diagram.pdf
@@sounddev Thanks. I'm going to order the NoiseAssist and be sure to only apply it to the mix, so it can be sent to my cameras and I can still record the original.
Adobe Premiere Pro is less ideal for editing audio files, as it's primarily designed as a video-based editing program. However, it DOES support 32-bit float, and you can use it to normalize audio. Please reach out to Adobe for specific support within that program.
I have a question. When I solo for example channel 1, it looses gain. The mic becomes quieter. Is there a solution to that, so that the gain stays the same, when I want to solo the channel?
Hey there! It sounds like you might have the gain setting quite low on CH 1, while your fader is turned up high. To have the gain setting "remain the same" when soloing vs listening to LR Stereo Mix, you will need to turn up the gain to a reasonable level (use your meters to judges this- look to bounce in the yellows) and then leave the fader at the 12 o'clock position. If you wish to troubleshoot further, please reach out to support! service.sounddevices.com/contact-support/
One quick correction- you are able to remotely change frequencies via web interface! Once the FQ is adjusted on the web interface, the setting changes on the TX as well. That's the beauty of NexLink! Also, on your entire spectrum comment, this design is purposeful. The SAW filtering used in the Astral wireless system is ideal for RF performance. This means, those transmitters must be contained within the range of that filter. For a detailed article on this topic, check out: www.sounddevices.com/spectraband-explained/
@sounddev can you give e me an example of why you would set a metering level or need to see that for mixing? I usually try to keep everything around -20db
@@MrWoody-da-lenchmob Here's an example, a sound mixer is requested to deliver a mix that peaks at -6dB. He's mixing extremely precisely and wants to know exactly where the headroom is at. Because of this, he might use the -20 to 0dB scale on the meter view options. Another example might be if the mixer is used to working on a console that only shows 0 to -20dB or 0 to -40dB. These are all preferences.
@@MrWoody-da-lenchmob Sure, you could enable limiters. There are multiple ways to tackle any challenges given to you in sound mixing. This is just an example case.
Too bad it doesn't actually work. I did exactly what you just demonstrated with a 4 channel poly wave and I got 4 mono tracks each with all 4 channels of audio mixed together.
Thanks for the analysis! 🔍 I’ve got a question: 🤨 I only have these words 🤔. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). How do I use this? 🤨
What I'd love to see is the ability to change some of the settings, like record settings and the date/time so it will match my iPhone, which is always accurate.
This is great. Any chance this could be adapted for use with the mix pre series? Wingman is very minimal in functionality and the GUI on the mixPre 10 is miniscule
Hey Sound Devices Team. I work with a Scorpio, Nexus, A20 Mini's and A20 TX. All units need an update. Unfortunately I can't find anything on the net that tells me exactly how to do the updates. A video about it would be great. best regards Lucas Lutz Erler
Hi Lutz! That is a good video suggestion; we will pass it along. In the meantime, if you need help with updates, give our support team a shout. - service.sounddevices.com/contact-support/
Hello dear Sound Devices team! I have found out how to update the A20 Mini. I was just surprised that the update started when I disconnected the Transmitter from the USB connection. The battery wasn't really full anymore and I was afraid the Transmitter would go out in the update. Which usually ends in disaster. But everything went well. I was prepared for the others. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to find out how to update the A20. Via the microSD slot? I will get in touch with your support team. Thanks for the quick reply. Best regards from Germany Lucas Lutz Erler
If the person is calling in via cell phone, you would need to route that phone line to a channel, using the 3.5mm Aux Mic input option. This may require an adapter if your phone does not have a 3.5mm TRS output jack. If you want the caller to additionally hear the feed from your mics on the MixPre, you'd also need an adapter that separates your phone input/output options, since you'd also need to send the MixPre feed back into the phone via the 3.5mm Stereo Output. There are many splitter/interface boxes available that will separate your phone's audio output and input into two ports. For further questions, please reach out directly to our support team at service.sounddevices.com/contact-support/.

I am planning to buy mixpre 10 and I need to record from 8 diffrenet microphones. My question is, will I be able to tranfer the data of 8 mics from usb live? Bests.
Would this be useful if I was recording two different mics in an interview setting? Such as a boom mic for interview and a lav for myself as interviewer?
Hi there! This would depend on the result you wish to achieve. If you want a mix track of both you and the interviewee, yes. If you're recording two separate tracks and want to use those, no.
Why my linking feature is not visible for the third channel. I have connected my SM7b to channel 1. On channel 1 I am able to see the linking option, but not on Channel 3. Please suggest
I am very interested in this device. But I would like to wait for Gen 3. Since the mix pre gen ii is at least 3 to 4 years old at this point. Anything in the works? Thanks.
having the solo button next to the mute button seems like suicide in a live situation. one slip with the finger and the sound will be muted on the recording? hope there are other ways of soloing than this one..
the mixpre 10 ii has line Level outputs , the mixpre 6ii does not , the canon c70 has line level outputs but in so how do I get line level synched audio with the mixpre 6ii plugged into the canon c70. im not refering to recording separate audio , i want to synch the audio with canon c70 camera .
If you have a MixPre-6 II, I would recommend recording the audio separately as you will lower the quality of the recording by relying in your Canon C70's preamp. The MixPre-6 II offers a 3.5mm TRS Stereo Output which you could run into the stereo input of the C70. I wouldn't bother running a 3.5mm TRS to XLR cable into the camera's XLR inputs since the signal coming out of the MixPre is already unbalanced. If you have a MixPre-10 II, I'd recommend using the TA3 outputs for routing to the XLR inputs of your C70 at line level.
@@sounddev so the mixpre 10ii is line level with c70 but the mixpre 6ii is not with c70? Most work I “don’t “ want to record separate audio . Will the mixpre 10ii ta3 outputs to xlr inputs be balanced and will quality be at its best or is it the same as the mixpre 6ii where u mentioned that with 6ii it will lower quality into a c70 preamp ?
Thank you, just did it without a hitch just as you instructed and it worked. One tiny hiccup was when you said return it to the "root" of the card, not sure what you meant, what is the "root" of the card?
is the right knob suppose to be instantly click for the blue pop up for presets. or are you supposed to hold it for a few seconds? Wondering if my knob is bad since im pressing it really hard
Is "High Dynamic Range Analog-to-Digital Conversion with Selective Regression Based Data Repair" (US20160241252A1) the patent you reference in re: 32-bit? I've worked quite a bit in digital imaging, and the "selective regression" approach you took to reconcile/cross-calibrate the different ADC stages is basically what I expected FWIW. From my own experience I'm sure that there's a lot of secret sauce in there to make it work well. As you say it's a tricky problem.
Sound Devices seriously has the best product support I’ve seen at any company. You speak to a knowledgeable human on the phone right away. No silly automated system, outsourcing, or anything like that. You guys rock!
This is good to know. I always knew their customer was good. I sent in a used 702T to be checked and serviced if needed. I got a good bill of health . I no longer use the 702T. I use the mix pre-6 ii. Love it!!
I think the Laura / Paul live demo combo team was outstanding! I hope they continue to do these. Coming from cheaper, less-capable brands to Sound Devices was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Currently rocking a MixPre 3II, MixPre 6II, MixPre 10II and my baby, an 833 with SL2 attached. And I anticipate these lasting the rest of my career without issue.
@@sounddev so if that's true I'm even more baffled. The SD card shows no files on it but when I plug the MixPre6 into my computer via USB-C it shows the files are there on the UNIT. Again, SD card is empty. So where exactly are these files being stored?? Thanks in advance!
@@JMLRecording The SD card should appear exactly the same whether you're moving files via USB-C or via card reader. If that isn't the case, then there's definitely an issue with your card reader.
I have a pair of MixPre IIs as well as an 888 and love 32-bit for its convenience, but I would remark that most _mics_ can’t exploit the full dynamic range of an 888 in 24-bit mode. If you trim the mic’s maximum usable level to, say, -6 dB, then you’ll find that the mic’s noise floor is still above the 888’s floor, and you can “run and gun” without worrying further about trim. I can think of several large-diaphragm mics for which this isn’t true, but those are the exception IME. It can also be true if you’re willing to push the mic well into its high-distortion regime, as you might with the hypothetical jet engine (after all, nobody will be able to tell).
