These guys were from our neighbourhood in Toronto, actually Scarborough. Two of the band members are now gone, Steven Page, who was married to some neighbours’ daughter, and one of the two Creegan brothers. The other one is still there playing the bass, or is it a cello? .The drummer, Tyler, was a close friend of another neighbourhood girl, as was Ed, the current lead singer. So we’d hear their news firsthand from various acquaintances. One of their first big gigs was playing at the opening of a new wing at our local hospital. Imagine! People loved them and got a big kick out of the name; however, when they were supposed to perform in the big square in front of Toronto City Hall, the mayor at the time, June somebody or other ,(whose name I can’t recall now). was offended by their name and cancelled the booking! She became a laughing stock, of course. We met a couple of the parents at a party, and they asked whether we thought the boys should stick with it! They were concerned the band might not come to anything and their boys would’ve wasted important years and not got on with their real careers! LOL! I’d love to have seen their reaction to The Ladies’ incredible and lasting success.
I first visited St. John’s in Summer 1990; people responded to my “I’m from Vancouver” with glowing reviews of Spirit of the West’s visit (maybe the previous year?) to the Folk Festival in Bannerman Park. I didn’t know John Mann personally but I still miss him
Happy 67th birthday (20,280 days), Murray Foster! Can you believe I recently turned 66!? I also celebrated 16 years living with Lyme Tick Disease on June 16 2024. I am still in Nmkt, living the gypsy life in a tiny townhouse with my loving and loyal boon, companion, Charlie Cockapoo, who is coming up on 15 years old I am retired since 2015, but working harder than ever, my neighbourhood's "Do-Gooder Neighbour". I perform wellness-checks on many seniors in my area, mow their lawns, run errands for them. I teach local kids how to rescue, raise and release Monarch butterflies (60 years and counting) who are in great danger of extinction; and I teach them how to plant and tend organic gardens, so they can help feed their families and friends. Life is good, when you beat all the odds! Love Always 💞🌹 , Happy Canada Day 🎆🍁and Cheers 🎂🥂, Rosemary B-Chiu . (grandma now to 4 beautiful grand kids: Sebastian, Anastasia, Elianna and Emelio. 🍀)
