I am the Everyday Aquarist! I create videos and content for freshwater / saltwater aquaria and ponds. I am just a guy who like fish and fish keeping and wants to share his opinion and knowledge with everyone!
I recently used Epsom salt on my betta fish, he is lethargic and I believe he has some fin rot ( my husband bought some treatment for this today). Hope this helped my beta fish yesterday! 🙏
I have setup a 180ltr marine tank, and i am old school keeping things simple, so running 1 x 405, 1x 406 and also 2 x fluval u3 internally.... no sump no skimmer.... is that too much filtration ???
Hi from french canada quebec ! So good videos and instructive... all of them ... then i make a come back in the marine side of the hobby .relying on macro algae and bio diversity it brings in the aquarium ... it looks it will be successful ... thanks !
Thanks...looks promising. There is another I'm looking at. the HG028, has bluetooth. Hard to find here in Canada atm. holding off until I can see reviews on that one.
Potential warning on this feeder…I bought it from Amazon. After 3.5 months of use, the battery died and won’t recharge. I found out 3 months in the day before an out of town trip…checked the feeder and noticed the battery light was flashing that it was low. Tried to recharge and the light wouldn’t change. Went back to Amazon and found that there were several reviews saying the battery wouldn’t recharge. 2 weeks later, the battery completely died and there’s no reviving it. Other than that, no issues with the feeder. I used tape to reduce the size of the feeding hole to get it where it wasn’t too much.
I caught some wild green sailfin molly's in a coastal trailer park pond that is on the Ecofina river in Ecofina Fl. I had them in a brackish tank for 3 yrs now, acclimated some to saltwater and they are raising saltwater baby's now, they love the saltwater.
Exactly I bought a aquaclear 110 and hate it! I'm going back to my whisper IQ 60'S. I just swap out the oem media with my own. I've got 9 of these with diy media and they're Awesome! I've had canisters internal and external and they're a pain.😅😅😅
The best video ever on cheato! I am looking for an easy way to keep nutrients down and hate to say but inexpensive too since I need it for 3 tanks after nitrtaes have suddenly spiked to 28 and 25 after adding new fish and corals. I have thought of carbon dosing but skimmer isnt working well in one tank because I cant find out where the sump or tank is leaking but sump gets to low! Alo I like the fact that once I get set uo with a fuge it enexpensive to keep going and also I heard it ups ph! I am running gfo and am about 0.08 on po4. Should I remove gfo little by little? Also can I put cheato in sump if I odnt have a designated chamber? My sump is very small about 10 gallons(wide open no chambers) and even smaller in my aio and am going to need a hob one for my sumpless frag tank.. I hant really investigated other ways but I think a reactor of of some sort. No room for algae scrubber! What way would you recommend and mainly want to know about just putting in an open sump.
You mention that the Oase and Eheim are German companies. You don't seem to realize that Fluval is a German company also. The Fluval 407 is actually rated higher than the Oase canister filters...even from buyers on Amazon. Of course though, Oase is a relative newcomer to the home aquarium market. They were mainly known for constructing fountains...large, commercial fountains, such as what you might see in front of a large hotel. They also have a satellite wing that installs a few residential fountains each year. It was only relatively recently that Oase decided to enter the aquarium market. With no knowledge of or experience with aquarium products, they had to purchase an Italian company that previously made aquarium products under a different brand name...and that's where Oase canister filters are made. I might try an Oase a few years from now, but not right now...with about 10% of buyers giving Oase canister filters a one star rating...I'll stay with Fluval filters for the foreseeable future.
I followed the instructions and left it for a day to practice before we go away..came back and half the feeder was empty and water completely ruined. Hopefully your instructions will be much better!
I’m using one of these for a 20 gal wild crawfish tank filled approx 1/4 - 1/5 full and cannot say enough good things about it. I most especially appreciate the fact that the filter bags can be emptied then re used with new media whilst keeping the beneficial bacteria in the filter bag foam itself. Cheers!!
Bought one of these. Hygger is a good brand BUT with mounting bracket on the end the light sagged down (Not level) & bracket would NOT slide down the side to the middle. Sent it back for a refund. Also it doesn't swing up out of the way for tank maintenance. Bought a Hygger HG978 to replace. Great light!
Yeah I did think the mounting bracket a little on the low end quality wise, but a shame to hear yours sagged. I'll hopefully get the other hygger clip on LED to review it next as they seem really different.
Is there anyway to prevent condensation on a clear acrylic lid? I like the clear view of the top of my aquarium, hence I've placed clear acrylic sheet on top if my aquarium, however the condensation creates a mist and frosted view of the top making it hard to see the my fish from top view. Any advice or recommendations?
I just found this video because I am considering triming my mangrove roots for esthetics, but I don't want it to die. Great work on your experiment. Did you ever end up doing an update video? I couldn't find it, but I want to know what happened
Have a local fish shop looking to buy some of my babies. Wasn't sure of the best way to transport them. Especially like the way you floated the bag. Such a simple thing but very helpful. Now to catch all the little hillstreams lol
Another Result Of This UVC Clarifier Having No Timer And Running 24/7 Means That A New 20,000 Hour Bulb Will Need To Be Purchased From Fluval Approximately Once Every Two Years By Everyone Who Owns One Of These Clarifiers...Which Will Of Course Be Good For Fluval's Profit Margin. Whenever You Seek An Answer As To Why A Company Has Done Something, Always Follow The Money "Everyday Aquarist"...Always Follow The Money.
It doesn't matter how many Innovations they come up from the internal filter science bench.. nobody has yet topped the old reliable EHEIM Pickup series
I am new to fishies and I was quite apprehensive in cleaning my 2 fluval 407 after setting them up 4 months back. I have to admit, after I watched your tutorial it was an absolute breeze, thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for your amazing videos
I really don't like the exposed impeller design in "powerhead" mode. It can easily blend snails, small fishes, floating coral heads, maybe a wandering anemone, or just simply eat up some algae or sand and melt down in your aquarium zapping everyone to death. All I can see are numerous ways of disaster with this one, at least a grill should have been provided. I also consider the best filter silent, and it looks like generic noisy chinese c. Aquael if cheap, Sicce if quality or jerry rig something to a DC return pump and you will be better off.
