I think the signal repeater right next to the key is to prevent anyone from intentionally losing a life to get back to the gate if you don't defeat the guards.
This and the credits theme to SM3DW…. Although 3D world was more jazzy and uplifting … between the two credits themes, there’s that wholesomeness that tugs your heartstrings ❤
I love how the resurrection of Clockwerk before the title card is reused from the beginning of the game, but with the added sound of his robot wings flapping.

This ending is good, but I just wanna say, I hate how it established that the brothers are originally from the Mushroom Kingdom. I wish their Brooklyn origins from the movies and shows was canon!
