Hi! Lyndon here. I am an Electrical Design Engineer by profession. But, sometimes work does not necessarily translate to projects that we are passionate in. To fill this void, I decided to explore my hobbies in project builds and outdoor adventure. This channel will serve as an insight to my pursuit of fun builds and outdoor recreation.
Are you staying overnight? We parked in a garage walking distance from yankee freedom ferry. Forgot the price. Parking in the area is about the same. I think it was the city of key west old town garage. Check out the current pricing.
@@FirstHandExplore I'll be camping 2 nights. I've read in gmap that it's $40. I thought maybe you parked somewhere cheaper. Looks like you had fun. Can't wait to go there! Thanks for the info!
@@iknowbinary We would have stayed 2 nights but the ferry was fully booked on that return date. Yes, the parking is expensive but the experience of camping in the middle of the sea is truly worth it. Just don’t be alarmed of any immigrant landing at night like I did. Hehe
How did you feel hiking through the beautiful grand canyon? What season did you go, did your knees hurt all that hard way? You maybe felt great, i think you were rejuvenated. Many greetings from Greece.Yet I noticed that you didn't cross any bridges, while other walkers crossed two or three bridges along the way. Why didn't you cross them? 💝💝💝
Hi. Thank you for watching. This is a bucketlist hike. We are glad we did it while we still can. My knees only hurt the first day going downhill with all that weight on my pack. There are no bridges as the Tonto trail goes along the colorado river and not across it. Other videos you watched are probably the RIM to RIM trail which is also great but crowded. If you plan to camp in the Grand Canyon you need to apply for permit. A lot of hikers do the RIM to RIM trail as a day hike to prevent getting camping permit thus it is crowded.
Very nice video! You definitely took advantage of the low humidy and winter light to get some awesome shots. Also liked the music selection and had to laugh as the song lyrics "something ain't right" was playing while you were setting up your tent :) been there. BTW, other viewers might want to know the song is Almost the Same by Peter Crosby
Thanks Christopher. It was a struggle setting up that tent when we’re hungry and hands freezing from the cold wind. We were the only ones fool enough to camp that night😂
Hi Jeff. Yes, it was an amazing hike. A bucket list hike. We did see a few hikers with daypacks. You must be very fit to hike it in a day. Our concern was just the water source or lack of it.
I discovered your videos a few months back and you make fantastic videos. I don't understand why your channel isn't growing more. Ironically, I live in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains but found you through your Cumberland Island Camping video. Thank you for all the effort you put into making your quality videos. I will keep watching.
Thank you PidasianHippie. We also don’t understand the youtube algorithm. But the outdoors is something my wife and I have in common. As long as we still enjoy what we are doing, we are gonna share it with you guys in the community. Thank you for watching. Your comment means a lot to us.
Thank you for providing enough information that we could reproduce your hike. I am always looking for new places to go and prefer less traveled trails.
I believe this is one of the must hikes in a lifetime. I also believe it doesn’t have to be several miles. Hiking down bright angel and staying at the Indian garden or one of the campsites near the colorado river is full filling enough. Hope you try it in this lifetime.
You can do it in your lifetime I'm 70 and hiking the entire length of the Tonto Trail is one the treks I have on my GC hiking resume 3.5 years ago I got sick ; stroke , cancer ,a-fib , aortic valve replacement November of '94 I'm returning to the Canyon and my "it's good to be back " hike will be; Down the BA>Tonto East to Hance Rapids> Escalante Route to Tanner > Beamer to the Confluence >Out via the the Tanner with a dry camp on the saddle between Escalante and Cardenas Buttes
The pork melts to flavor the beans. Picket state park is a great side trip to make at big southfork and if you didn't see the twin arches you'll want to do a return trip. Nice videos! Very enjoyable.
Hi William. When we were kids, my brothers and I always compete who gets to have the only pork every time we open a can of pork and beans. Somehow this meal bring back memories. Thank you for the recommendation. We’ll look into it and thank you for watching.
One of the only things I watch on RU-vid is backpacking videos of potential places I want to go to. This is one of the best videos I have ever seen. Great job. Awesome work. Thank you for this
@@FirstHandExploreTrue! Btw, I didn't see how you stored your foods and scented items. Are there any bear lockers in all campsites? Or did you need to hang them in some campsites?
It is truly a beautiful place. Next to this island, is a place named Dog Island which is more remote but just as beautiful. Dog Island is only accessible by boat or small plane. It is worth a visit! But take ample food and water because there are no stores or cafes there.
Yes, dog island was just across the water at the end of our hike. It’ll be awesome to visit there one day. Thank you for the recommendation and thank you for watching.
I just got done doing theTimberline trail, thanks in some part to your great video on that hike. The Circue of the Towers might be my 2024 summer western adventure. Thank you for sharing!
Hi, how was the timberline trail? Did you guys had a good weather? Were the water crossings deep? Yes. Cirque of the towers has its own beauty and no permits required just a log book just like timberline trail. And be prepared with the altitude effects. Thank you for watching.
@@FirstHandExplore the Timberline trail was great! I went solo, had perfect weather, the water crossings were difficult and numerous, yet manageable. I was surprised by just how generally hard the trail was though. More elevation gain and loss than I had expected. In terms of difficulty, how would you say the Cirque compares?
@@papertiger795 Cirque of the Towers is not as bad as Timberline. The distance is just half of timberline and elevation gain is about 4000 ft. What we’re worried about is the altitude. We did prepare for it a month physically. We also requested altitude sickness medicine from our doctor. We tried it days before but the effect was it let us pee a lot😆. We ended up not using it unless we need to. All in all it was just exhausting as Timberline due to altitude effect.
@@FirstHandExplore good to know. When I did the Tahoe rim trail, my ears started ringing for an entire day at around 7700ft. I felt miserable for a day or two. The trail eventually went to 10300ft, but by then I was acclimated. I'll have to factor in a day or two at altitude before I start. Like you, I'm a Floridian. My home is at 16ft
This is hands down the best camping at Dry Tortugas video I've seen. And Ive probably seen all of the ones available on youtube. Excellent job and thank you!!
Hi Melvin. Yes, this trail is beautiful. We didn’t know about this place until recently. They always advertise the smokies in Tennessee and is also very touristy. But this place is free from those.
@@melvinlee5684 . We’ve been eyeing savage gulf for awhile now and plan to visit there in the future. But, Ranger falls haven’t been on our radar yet. I’ll look it up. Thank you for the recommendation.
Were doing this next month in August and love the post celebration meal! Where did you guys stop for seafood?! We're from FL also! Enjoying your vids. We've done several of the same hikes!
Hi Ruth. Thank you for watching. The restaurant’s name is THE SALTY LANDING. It is located at the town of Brevard, the southern end of Art Loeb Trail. Did you guys arranged your shuttle ride?
