It'll depend on the bike and your ability, but it's doable. I've seen it done. But just keep in mind this mountain is best ridden on a modern enduro or a DH bike. It's not a mountain with flow trail style trails.
@@SloaneDalmer thanks for the reply. Noted. Bragg creek area might be better than. Lived here 10 years. Just finding out about the biking. Thanks again. 🙏🏻
Ah yes. The Northern Lights tire destroyer at 0:23 … Cratered my Gamblers rim last year (1:47 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5ANyT7ZfQlg.htmlfeature=shared)
Yeah it's pretty easy, I'd just start with riding the lower set of boards at the more shallow angle to get a feel for it. Do that a few times and then go a bit quicker and try to get your tires a bit on the steeper boards. Don't just go as high as possible on your first go and you should be okay
It doesn't take too long, maybe 10-15 minutes max? I'm not in the best shape and I don't often climb much so it took me a bit longer and gassed me out more than it probably would for most lol. You can definitely run like 3-4 laps and have a good time for a couple/few hours
We are in Pano right now! Blown out again, unfortunately, insane braking bumps on jump lines etc. Heard this run was worth checking out? Seems it’s 2nd hardest double black next to Punisher - what you figure? Also 3:30 gave my sweaty palms 💀
Oh it's absolutely worth checking out! I tried it there and after that, by the end of the weekend I think we did 8 laps of it. So so good!! I'd say it's about the same difficulty as punisher. There's some harder lines down the slabs than what I took in the video, so you can sort of ride it to the level you're comfortable with.
Breaks my heart I was never able to hit those drops. Too bad they got torn out. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see similar sized features built up in town again.
Yup, heartbreaking for sure. Sadly especially with ribbon of green we'll be lucky to even have regular singletrack to ride, let alone actual freeride style features. I know it's just wishful thinking but what we really need is Rabbit Hill to re-open the lift assisted bike park they ran back in 2006-2009ish. They'd have a much better chance of success now with how popular the sport's gotten. Heck, this video already has 7,000 views and I'm sure a huge chunk of that is Edmontonians looking for cool stuff to ride in the area.
@@DominikMtb-zd8rt sure did, it was wicked fun too. Trails from green circles up to some pretty challenging double black stuff. Way ahead of its time. Now theyre just (in my opinion, anyway) wasting their money on summer tubing.
@@SloaneDalmer Would love it if Rab reopened, Also found this trail during 2020 when the smaller drop was still there thanks to this video. Does this trail still exist with smaller features? I’m moving back to Edmonton from Ottawa in a couple months.
This trail is sick. I was there like 2-3 weeks ago and I got to check out this trail, one of the best trails at the bike park by far. Worth checking out
Thanks for sharing! Conditions looked quite good, Questions: 1. What lap was this? 2. What tire size and PSI? 3. Did you need to brake for many of the jumps! Thanks!
Yup, early season conditions are so good! 1. I was there for 4 days and was riding ALine every few laps. This was probably my 5th or 6th ride down ALine. The jumps are still bigger than I'm used to hitting, but the consistent build style inspires confidence 2. 27.5 x 2.5, but I don't know the pressure. I honestly just give my tires a squeeze test lol. Not too squishy but not too firm 3. I did brake a fair bit but generally only coming into turns, but that's because I'm not the best at railing berms. ALine is definitely set up to be run as fast as possible with as little brakes as possible. Most jumps are built for that kind of speed and most have super long landings where you likey wouldn't be able to land flat
Super steep and loose! I'm glad it comes across that way- I was worried the GoPro effect would make it look a lot more mellow than the beast that it is
@@SloaneDalmer heading out there for 3 days with a buddy, gonna try and hit every trail. thanks for the feedback. btw whats the hardest trail there. steep wise?
@@kylegoplin I think the big drop section of insanity might be the gnarliest there but slabosaurus is the longest sustained steepness. Punisher has a pretty high consequence, high commitment section as well. Any of those 3 are all pretty similar in difficulty
It depends on which trail you're riding. Some trails end at Ing's mine, some at Station flats, and some at the moose mountain road parking lot itself. The best bet is to know what trail you're riding and arrange for your shuttle to pick you up at the end point of that particular trail. Trailforks is super helpful to plan out your lap
@@SloaneDalmer ok thx i wanna ride tdub, jean guy, toothless, and billy dog, they seem to all meet up and end at the same spot, is that spot called something?
@@kylegoplin yup I've ridden them all, those all end up at Ings mine! You get to the little Creek/river at the end of the trail and then ride along the dirt road back to the parking lot. The creek will be on your left as you head back to the lot.
It's tons of fun! I wish I gave it a bit more gas on this run, but I was trying to see how slow I could go on the slabs- finally worked up the courage to do the first rock n roll slab on this trip shortly after this video. Next time I'll see what my race pace looks like haha
@@SloaneDalmer The 2nd rock n roll slab is legit steep. About 2/3 of the way down there's a bit of a drop that you have to let the brakes off for. Then you just pick up speed until you hit the catch berm lol. Main thing, is go as slow as possible. It's an awesome feeling when you get it though! I've got a video of it on my channel, but just like Pioneer, the camera doesn't do it justice. Haha
@@4G63PWR221 yeah I've actually watched that video of yours a couple times! I believe it- it looks steep and off camber from up in the gondola. It's on the list for next year!
Right on! It's always wise to pass on it if you're not totally feeling it, but I can say it's not too tough. There's just the one steep section in the trees and the slabs at the beginning which can be intimidating. Good luck, you can do it!
They're both probably the most fun trails there, along with swamp donkey and the new alpine flow trail! Some sections are pretty steep yeah- the slabs are steep and can be slick. Theres also a really technical and steep section in the trees at 2:50. Other than that, it's not too bad, just chunky tech and a faster flowy section at the end!
Seriously haha, it's such a good time though. That mountain makes you appreciate tech riding a lot more! Also long time no talk! We should get out for a ride at some point 🍻
So much fun man! The nice thing about the Alberta riding is all the loam too. Not dusty like I'm used to in the Kootenay bike parks. I guess you're spoiled by the Vancouver area already though!
It sort of depends on the trail, as there are some pretty gnarly ones out at moose. But this one in the video for example, I don't think you'd have too much difficulty if you're a confident rider. A hardtail is actually a quite capable bike in the hands of the right rider.
