Hello, Were you able to unscrew that black nut ring on the base plate? I have similar problem and I can't take it out... You mentioned it was sealed during the camera service? What was the reason for this? Thank you!

Have you ever seen a particular problem with the camera where the shutter opens when I advance the film and the other shutter curtain stays in its place? The moving curtain comes back to its original place when I press the release button and move the advance knob just a little bit. I have a Canon 7, but if I’m not mistaken both cameras have the same mechanism underneath.

Thanks for the tip. I bet that's something that would have ended in me spending hours figuring out why it's not working.

Hi! My canon p sometimes don´t expose the first or last 5-10 frames of a roll. It can also happen to in the middle of the roll, I can´t figure out why that is. Have you heard about this problem before? All the exposed frames looks good and the roll is put in correct.

Btw, if you have an old mouse and an oscilloscope you can make a high precision shutter calibration apparatus. Just pull the photodiode out of the scroll wheel part of the mouse, hook up your probe to it and position it behind the curtains, with a strong light shining through the lens you can easily capture the period the curtain is open.

Hey Tom! Appreciate your video. I’ve taken it apart and messed with it quite a bit. Can’t get the Bulb mode to work. Any suggestions?

Hi! My P has a gap on the side of the curtain much this you describe, after taking a shot, but just before it being cocked - you mention this in the video around @4:30 - I gave this a twist but the shutter still doesn't complete it's travel. Hmm. Any ideas?

Hi, very satisfying to see an amatory doing overhaul to a camera with good knowledge. I have second shutter curtain problems, it stays 2mm shorter, my Canon P do not have the screw you show under the viewfinder to adjust the travel of the curtain, unfortunately. I have no technician nearby, have to send it to another country, so I have to do it myself. Japan vintage camera shows how to clean the bottom part with lighter fluid to solve this problem, but it didn’t solve the problem. Any ideas? Cheers

I have a bit of curtain bounce on my canon P, any idea how to fix that? I can’t find anything online… is there a shutter curtain brake on the P?
@tomtran2854
@tomtran2854 Год назад
I believe there is. You will be better served disassembling the top and bottom cover and switch the camera to B mode and observe how the curtain behaves at the bottom and top to see if there are any loose parts. In my case there's a shutter bounce because the adjustment points are not properly calibrated as shown in the video.

@@tomtran2854 i was able to fix it! that screw you turned to "adjust the slack of the curtain" is actually the brake pad adjustment, i tightened the brake pad and then retightened that screw and it worked. the shutter curtains dont seem to open at 1/1000th, is that the same case that you had? if so ill turn that top screw and see what happens.
@tomtran2854
@tomtran2854 Год назад
@@matteooballa3581 Glad it worked. In my case, there were both slack and capping at 1/1000. Adjusting those two points seem to solve the issues in my case.

Great video Tom. I recently bought a pretty new iis2, however I found there were some issues on the viewfinder. Do you if the viewfinder is changeable? thanks!

Could you please make a video talking about how to take off the top cover of Canon iis2? I think I need to change the half-mirror prism after did some research on the repairing manual.

@tomtran2854 Год назад
@@nickhu2585 hey Nick, thanks for your comment. The top cover of the Canon iis2 is very easy to disassemble and I believe it's also highlighted in the repair manual on learncamerarepair. You can also take a look at this video which is for the Canon IID disassembly but they are the same really. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KEOurJXv5vI.html. I already sold my IIS2 so can't really demonstrate it to you real time but it's very easy (unless someone messed up the tiny screws of the shutter speed dial).

Hi, thank you. You can watch how to disassemble the Canon P top cover and body from Japan Vintage Camera. He has a nice video on how to do all the basic cleaning and repairing stuff (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CShHW9ytZX4.html)
