Well, I believe I am outnumbered as I was going to suggest you hang the Bird painting above the clothing rack. I don’t know why but I am partial to that clock!! LOL! I think you should get a pack of batteries and tell Caleb you’d like to entrust him with changing the clock batteries when the clock dies. 😊 I love your sewing room! The lighting and space are wonderful! Thank you for the tour! I learn a lot from you and your wonderful tutorials. PS: I had to laugh at 24:45 when you mention the clothing rack has become storage for Hubby and Son’s ironed clothing as well. Hey, life is REAL!! Embrace it!
Your studio is so real, Love it! And all the little things that need attention, very relatable! Re pre-washing fabrics, I have had several cases of the fabric changing drastically after they were washed!! and no longer suitable at all for the project in mind. Shrinking turned out to come in second, So glad I found out before sewing them up 🙃
birds above sewing machines. The clothing rack is too high to place picture that hard up. So happy I found you again. I saw you on E&M and haven't seen you for a long time.
I vote for the bird painting above the sewing machines, because I think it is nicer to look at than the clock when you are spending a lot of time sewing. I think you should do away with the clock, especially since you forget to change the batteries, and therefore it doesn't fulfill its function. Anyway, I like your sewing space, because it looks like a real, creative person lives and works in there.
You made a cool shirt but for a tee you don't need seam allowance. Just overlock with a three thread and cover stitch the seam down. Trust me I have made at least 100 color block tees and they all came out awesome 😎
That's true for an oversized tee but if it's fitted you want to make sure to have the seam allowance. its just good practice to get used to always using an allowance to have a perfect fit since you will be eating them as you sew
Love this dress two questions. Just started sewing buttons have only done one garment. If I was going to use buttonholes, would I do that prior to attaching the skirt to make it easier to sew? Also could you tell us what size you picked?
Thank you for this video. I have purchased sooooo many projectors and stands trying to project my photos enlarged down to a canvas to trace. You have inspired me to purchase your setup and use it for art. We’ll see, cross your fingers that it works,
Looks great! Just a couple of tips - when gathering, 2 rows of basting stitches makes a neater uniform gather! Your bodice should have been right over left, not left over right (man style)!
Thank you for the tips! My problem is I’m too lazy 🤦🏻♀️ usually that’s the reason why I only do one row of stitches and usually up my tension so the machine gathers for me. Also, I can never remember which side I’m supposed to put on top so I just do whatever cause again, I’m too lazy to look it up! Maybe I’ll remember for next time 🤣🤣😓
Cute dress! (If you haven’t occasionally misplaced your sewing tools or sewn your buttons to the wrong side at least once, are you even a seamstress?🤣) You could scavenge some coordinating fabric from a fat quarter for inner pocket fabric & use your beige linen as the sides that show so you could have two pockets if you’re willing to alter your dress. I think I’d be tempted to serge all my pieces right after cutting them out since linen frays so easily. Thanks for sharing your project. 🙌🎊
Oh yes!! Why I didn’t do that is beyond me… I guess cause I was just going for it with no rhyme or reason 😂 and yes, it is recommended that you serge or finish the pieces before sewing but I am lazy and like to do everything at the same time 😏
Lovely dress ❤, I’m always tempted to try Tiana’s pattern but wanted to ask for your opinion regarding the fit of her patterns? Fit is always a problem for me so any feedback is highly appreciated ❤
I honestly have had very good luck with Tiana’s Closet patterns! That’s not to say that some may not be as good as others but the ones I’ve tried have been great!
Such a cute dress! I may need to make one. I have a few questions … 1. To gather the skirt they way you did, could you also reinforce with elastic and gather it the way you did with Ellie and Macs Staycation dress? 2. Could you serge the pieces together from the start vs basting then finishing? I’m not sure if I missed why you did that or not. Is it due to the fabric type? Thanks!
You usually don't need to reinforce woven fabrics with elastic as it wont stretch out on you like a knit fabric will. You can overlock/serge without sewing on the machine first but you will need to make sure the needle thread on your overlocker/serger is at the right seam allowance otherwise the finished garment could be bigger than you expect.
Hi! You really should make one! It’s so cute and I’m sure I’m going to make many more! Yes, you could gather with elastic but it’s not needed ♥️ it will not stretch and sag as knit does. As for the basting… woven fabrics tend to fray quite a bit, if all you have is a serged edge there is a high possibility of it fraying and leaving you with a hole in your seam after a few washes. This is the reason so do a straight stitch first and then finish your seams. I recommend to always do that unless you have a serger which does it for you (there are some that do and they save tons of time!) so the stitch is not to ‘baste’ but to put the garment together. The serger stitch is to finish off the edge so that it won’t fray as easily 🤎 I hope this helps
This video was helpful showing the back of the projector and the way to mount the projector. I ordered the same projector you have a couple of days ago, and now due to Labor Day it won’t come till Tuesday. I showed my husband the part of the video showing the plate and projector mounting holes, and he knew what he was seeing. It is exactly the same way his external computer monitor is out on a desk stand, which I ordered from Amazon for $27. The table I will use is very big so having it on a desk stand at the end of the table will work great.
I looked through the Projectors for Sewing page on FB and this was one of the recommended and a guy was selling them on EBay (also recommended on the group) so it was a cheaper option for me ♥️
