Lift your head and bring your knees up to your chest when you are trying to stand up from a float. That will make your legs drop downwards so you can stand up. At the same time, move your arms as if you are opening a pair of window curtains at the same time - start with your hands in the middle of your body and pull out sideways with your hands under the water throughout the movement. This will propel you forward and keep your feet on or near the ground. Using your arms to move you forward in the water more than trying to step forward will help you get to the wall without slipping on the bottom of the pool. Trying to walk through the water is difficult and your legs will slip on the bottom and want to float behind you, putting your face back in the water. Instead, use your arms as your primary mover. Then you can just bounce along on your feet. Do not pull your arms behind you though, as this will tip you forward. Just pull out to the side, keeping your arms in front of your body at all times. I hope these tips help you. The best thing you can do is to get some private lessons with a swimming teacher though, as demonstrations in person, and real time corrections are far easier to learn from.

@myfreedomfromfear
@myfreedomfromfear 3 месяца назад
Ah, this issue gets raised a lot. Let your legs "sink" down during your float. We all float differently and it's for you to experience how the water holds YOUR body up. Don't fight to bring your legs up. Instead bring your attention to your torso and head and feel the water hold those up. We can discuss more when you reach out.

Kudos for dissecting this very important topic on fear.... I've been there and these steps really helped me. Learning how to swim at 39 wasn't particularly easy but following these steps with instructions and regular practice during summer... I am now in love with water. So when swimming in the sea, sometimes I realized I had reached the deep end when I try to put my feet down. Initially I'd panick and try to swim back to where my feet can touch the ground. Subsequently, I told myself "but when you didn't need any extra skills to swim to the deep end, so relax and swim back when you are ready." Then I learnt the art of threading water which made the experience a lot calmer and better. It's 15 months since I took my first swimming lesson, now I am so so glad I took that bold step.... It's never too late to learn swimming... Thanks once again for the video 😊

I kinda liked the dynamic of the family but as a horror this was very poor. I did not find it scary. The attempts to make the pool scary failed miserably and the dialogue became so dreadful it was literally laughable. A couple cool set ups and shots but overall this one didn’t work for me. Great review 👍

Thanks for the comment! I agree with you that it was mediocre as a horror movie. On that front, they touched on a lot of subjects I like to address for my audience.

Absolutely! Belief is a HUGE part of learning to swim and being comfortable in water. If you believe unhelpful things about water, then your body tenses and panics around water. But if you believe that you can achieve comfort and that the water's buoyancy works in your favor (it does), then you learn to relax and enjoy being in water.

I hear you but you don't want jumpers to rely on other people surrounding them to keep them safe. You want to teach the jumper how to self rescue. The girl in the video is clearly fine and can handle herself. But the title and premise is misleading. Actual afraid people can try that and have horrible outcomes.

Avoidance is not the answer. Look around you. Global warming is resulting in increased rainfall/precipitation, snowmelt, and rising sea levels. It has increased the risk, amount, and severity of flooding globally. You don't have to go to the water. It will come to you. Time to stop avoiding. Time to overcome your fear of deep water and learn to swim. Competence in water means that you can keep yourself and loved ones safe if the unexpected happens. Unfortunately, most swimming schools, even beginners classes, dive straight into teaching you skills (what to do with your arms, legs, and breath). They don't tackle the intense fear of deep water that has plagued you all these years. Learning strokes without overcoming fear of deep water is dangerous. You need to know how NOT to panic so that you can pick the right skill for the right situation, if you find yourself in an emergency situation. We teach you how to overcome fear and lay solid foundations around your relationship with water. Start with our self-paced, step-by-step course: myfreedomfromfear.teachable.com
