It's hard to explain this era to people that didnt witness it. I'm not even sure exactly what to call it. It was like it's own genre that mixed elite raps with Soul, HipHop, R&B, Gospel (especially Chance), and Dance music, and like 90% of it came from Chicago. This might not make sense to people that weren't there but it really was just different. Just pure joy.
Correct me if im wrong, but i remember it started with Ye and his record Ultralight Beam. After that I heard a lot more songs with this same "vibe" (for lack of a better word lol)
@@h.serafin1489 Actually Coloring Book came out like 2-3 weeks before TLOP, and that had a few straight up Gospel songs on there, and his subject matter had shifted towards God. BUT, Chance and Kanye were working a lot together at that time, so they probably worked a lot of it out together.
