I adore this singing and the musician playing the basset clarinet onstage interacting it’s simply magnificent. NOT good are the fermati that Mozart did not write. They kill the architecture of a genius are and ruin tension rather than add to it. Bravi Singer and Basset Clarinet.
I’ve seen Frau twice: with Nilsson and Marton, and many years later with Goerke, Megan Miller, Kerl, Rutter. It is quite a spectacle! Perhaps not as great as Elektra or Rosenkavalier, but stunning nonetheless.
Lorraine, we need you so much now, now that you're gone. Her voice was the sound of a stream, as if humanity were a flow of something necessary and passionate, nurturing, hurting and hurtful, confused, gentle, tendentious and wondrous. And, it is.
You have to believe here that Don G and Leporello have already fallen into the abuss. No palazzo, no food, orchestra, or guests. For a better and traditional staging, check out the MET from 1978. James Morris and Gabriel Becquier head an amazing cast that pulls Richard Bonynge along just fine in the pit. And the drama is clearly laid out on the sets [and their changes]. That said, the orchestra and singers handle this quite brilliantly. Audio-only would be worth a purchase if there were a final scene.
