Lauren made this song go viral by singing it in her stairwell. It was huge on TikTok and I think that’s what made both groups selected. Even though Lauren performed the same song with each of the groups they came out so different. VoicePlay went with the theme of Disneys Haunted Mansion. They did such a good job portraying those characters. it was always my favorite ride at Disneyland when I was younger, so of course I loved it. The Bass Gang had more of a feeling of a very creepy hotel like in the movie The Shining. I expected them to come out saying “redrum” any minute. I really like listening to it but I have to be in the right mood to watch it because that hotel is so creepy and Marwan scares the crap out of me when he does that really low note. I think they’re both excellent jobs - just a totally different vibe. And that is pretty special. I really do enjoy when people do a different take on a song that I’ve heard before (provided they don’t go too crazy. These guys both were crazy but not too crazy). Excellent start to the creepy spooky season!
The really high part when the ghosts are flying around at the end of VoicePlay's version is done by the Charismatic Voice. 😮 Also, if you listen carefully to the ending, the chord progression is taken directly from Grimm Grinning Ghosts.
VoicePlay actually went to Bass Gang channel and complimented them on their version. I like them both, because of their differnt takes on the song. Both VoicePlay and Bass Gang are among my favourite artists.
The Bass Gang are at a disadvantage as far as the production goes, since they are all in different countries. Not that you can't do wonderful things. After all, Loren was in Tennessee, her part was recorded on a green screen. Layne flew to Tennessee to recorded, then flew back quickly, Hurricane Ian was bearing down on Florida at the time. Geoff was asked how they felt about her doing this song with the Bass Gang after she had just done it with Voiceplay. He just shrugged and replied, "Capitalism".

I think this is the most waltz like movement I’ve heard. What do you guys think? Let me know what other classical pieces of music I should listen to down below ⬇️. Thanks for Watching! ❤❤😊
What is a little humiliating is that I only know a lot of the music from Looney Tunes cartoons and Bugs Bunny cartoons. Though it is amazing that the cartoons introduced them to a generation of children! I love that you know so much - it has made me appreciate them more and wanting to track down the history and listen to the originals. Thank you for your love of music and your love of their performance! 💛
Your enthusiasm is catching, sir! I couldn't remember the name of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and I didn't recognize Romeo and Juliet (I need to listen to more of his ballets), but I got all of the others. It was neat to learn more about the history of some of the pieces from you! I highly recommend Home Free's rendition of "Ring of Fire," which includes Avi of Pentatonix fame.
If you're playing acapella bands, give a watch to Home Free. Two of the members of Home Free join Straight No Chaser in their video "Rocky Top". Another member of Home Free sings with Voice Play in their video of "Top 10 ACA movie themes". Since you're a 'classical nerd', I think you'd enjoy "Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera" (on Austin Brown's channel).
Thought you might like where this music has been used in movies. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor - J. S. Bach Disney's Fantasia used this for the opening of the movie in 1940 The opening was the orchestra starting to tune and get the instuments ready and then they played this one. Eine kleine Nachtmusik - Mozart Used in The Scarlet Pimpernel 1939 Habanera from ''Carmen Suite No.2'' - Georges Bizet in Disney/Pixar UP also in Trainspotting Symphony No 5 in C Minor - Ludwig Van Beethoven in Breakfast Club, Austin Powers, Howard's End The Blue Danube Waltz - Johann Strauss II 2001: A Space Odyssey and Disney's The Jungle Book Dance of the Hours - Ponchielli Disney's Fantasia hippos do ballet Für Elise - Beethoven Rosemary's Baby 1968, Patch Adams, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Django Unchained Thus Spoke Zarathustra - Richard Strauss 2001: A Space Odyssey Orphée aux enfers, Frensh Can Can ACT 5 - Offenbach Little Mermaid, Moulin Rouge Romeo and Juliet (Fantasy Overture) - Tchaikovsky V for Vendetta A Night on Bald Mountain - Mussorgsky Disney's Fantasia Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" - Grieg Night at the Museum, Needful Things.
Yes yes, thank you so much for letting me know about the Disney Fantasia reference thank you. I didn’t know that all these pieces were used in Disney movies and shorts. ❤️👍🏾Appreciated
My pleasure. I played the Contrabass Clarinet in my high school's concert band and we played a lot of this list. We did Candide at competition and blew the socks off the judges. One just wrote WOW! In The Hall of The Mountain King was my favorite movement for the Peer Gynt Suite. I love your picture for Subscribe but too late - already did it.
When Layne wanted a chant for late in the piece, he took inspiration from the talking trees at Disney’s Tiki Room. So although it’s completely made up, it sounds Hawaiian.
The Dragon is in The Hobbit and it's movie trilogy, and is named Smaug. He is mentioned I believe, in Lord of the Rings, but there are no more dragons alive during the time period of Lord of the Rings. I love your reaction, you are so fun and knowledgeable!!!
I love how knowledgeable you are about classical music, and I ESPECIALLY love how much you enjoyed this arrangement / medley! I'm not sure what you've seen from them so far, but one of my current favorites is their live version of Elvira (it's not on their page, I recommend just searching RU-vid for "Voiceplay Elvira Live" or something like that. My favorite video is the one at the Gordon Performance Center.) My favorite full-length cover of Geoff's is Wicked Game!
I think Geoff's best solo arrangement is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. One of my gazillion favorites from Voiceplay is Golden Hour, just because of the last screen shot. Subscribed in anticipation.
