Great playing. I've always held the opinion that Holmes' solo from "What About Love" ('Til Tuesday) was one of the best composition solos l've ever heard. Dude's no lightweight, wish there was more of his work available.
When I first picked up my Tele, I didn't want to be Eric Clapton. I didn't want to be Matt Murphy. I didn't want to be Beck, or Page, or Hendrix...I wanted to be Robert Holmes.
Great Stuff Robert!!!! BC Rich Warlock... LMAO! Really like the Viper Tracks you did that are on Soundcloud. Still out in AZ, have a 6 month old baby boy (human) now... what a trip. Will be in VT in the fall 2016... maybe you'll be around for a pint?
doodleedledoo Hello Robert, Just listening to Ultra Blue and hope you're well and creating great music. Thank you for your contribution for extraodinary song writing and incredible guitar work and hope you're in a great space. you deserve the best. your friend and BEST REGARDS, Geoff Lake
Hello Robert! I've been a fan of yours since you were 12 years old when you traded in your K Guitar for a Fender. I really enjoyed our times playing tunes in your practice space in Boston . Cheers! PG
Wow man, that was really good! Everyone played great... so tight with sharp bitey guitar fills, relentless bass groove, and a punchy rock-steady beat. You guys had fun with that one.
Robert Holmes I saw you live back in the 80's with Til Tues opening for Rick Springfield and could not stop watching you despite your standing next to a very beautiful and talented Aimee Mann. It seemed like you were constantly playing individual notes all over the guitar and within every chord you played. Your solo on Don't Watch Me Bleed is shear guitar virtuoso. I have listened and watched you over and over again with TT, UB, LB and every thing else you have been a part of on Recordings and Video and will continue to do so until the end of my time. Your inspiration in my own playing has stayed with me since that first live concert and I hope to see more new stuff from you here on RU-vid and elsewhere. PLEASE make your own channel as you have more fans then you could possibly know.
Excellent dude Tasty playing. Just curious as to where it was recorded in a 'professional studio' or was it 'home studio recorded'. Not meaning to offend as I am sure a lot of home recording studio's are considered by the artist to be a 'professional studio' set up. Just didn't know what else to call it.. Just asking as I am setting out now on trying to seriously learn how to record etc at home. Love this and now have it on my i player..
Hi, thanks for the kind comments - I'll be sure to let Rob know. The studio is in my home but it was purpose built from the ground up and it therefore has a very high level of sound proofing and has a separate live room and control room etc - which doesn't necessarily improve the sound but makes recording a lot more fluid and controlled. But that's not to say you can't start off from home - just go for it and get stuck in. The actual song / musician itself and then technique, mic choice / placement and using your ears are IMHO the most important factors, all of which are within your grasp whether it's in the home or a professional set up. Yes there can be a hell of a lot to take on board which can be part gained from reading and researching - but the best and fastest way to learn is by trial and error and your own experience. Let me know if you need any further help and I'll try my best. Cheers Roger
Roger thanks so much for getting back to me.. From what you desribe it is not that far away from a 'professional studio' . At the minute mysoundpproffing will likely be old quilts placed over a couple of bookstands.. Defo very basic home recording some hardware decent iMac and logic pro 9 to get sratted with. About to go on a 10 week digital auido skills course at nights at a college in Edinburgh. If that doesn't sort me out then absolutely no hope. Too many bits and pieces of information that I am trying my best to cobble together tends to make it a bit more confusing. Have shied away from the making mistakes and trial and erroe route ... Don't know why...!!! Going to give it a go again this weekend.. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.. Might take you up on your offer re picking your brains if I get stuck with the reading vs trial and error process. Regards Jim
spectacular! how many years you've been playing songs, I since I was a kid playing as much as I can keyboard. if you feel like it we should do virtual cooperation via the web Bandhub which is nice
