Thanks for making the video. I pick up a lot of hats at the thrift store that have not had any tender loving care and your video has showed me how to install a new hat ban and a ribbon for the crown. Thanks a lot!
Just what the doctor ordered! Dr. Littmann designed the Classic to be lightweight, and more easily folded in a pocket. Little did Dr. Littmann know that the Classic line would go on be the best selling Stethoscope model of all time, giving way for the Classic II in 1982, the Classic II SE in 1994 and the Classic III in 2016.
Nice. This is a wool felt hat? How often do you need to spray with stiffener? I laugh when these expensive beaver felt guys say they dont wear theirs in the rain.... Wool is cheaper and you wear a hat whenever. A beaver-wool-rabbit mix might be better but they are expensive so.. Again nice job.
So nice to see someone using the old hand tools to make something instead of a giant shope with all the fancy power tools. This looks more like my own setup. I like your design better, too.
I can not even tell you how many good hats I have got at thrift store , I clean them , Steam them , And shape them . Something I love collecting . But I am beginning to run out of room . LOL
Good work. I restored 3X beaver hat, no beaver, with hot water and iron. Put in Gus crown and flat brim. Hat experts would not do restorative work as they said hat was not beaver but just wool felt. It's perfect for here st the hideout.
Does anyone know what they used in this video to clean the dry rot before gluing? My cobbler said he can remake the “block” and I could save money by doing the digging and cleaning myself :)
Cheap, quick, easy, and perfect. I bought a 1/2 pint ($3) of clear shellac, used 91% alcohol ($1) and a mixture of 4:1. I took 8 oz. of 91% alcohol and 2 oz. of clear shellac mixed in a spray bottle. Brush hat clean, then sprayed several coats until damp on upper and lower side of a 3 yr. old mink color fur felt Stetson Temple ($229) which would no longer hold shape. Sprayed lower side first. After approximately 30 minutes when lower side was no longer tacky, I sprayed the upper side of brim. Drying time was approximately 30-45 minutes. I shaped the brim as it dried and let it set overnight. The stiffness of the brim was absolutely perfect as was the shape with NO discoloration. I could not have been more pleased. NO problems, quick, easy, worked perfect, at a cost of ONLY $4. Cheaper than any other product sold or advised (shellac chips).
Has anyone figured out what materials he uses in order to accomplish such good results? I'm mostly interested in what glue he uses. It looks like it's definitely a good quality glue. I think I can figure out the rest, I just want to use a good glue and I don't know if Shoegoo is gonna be sufficient. (No disrespect. I don't think shoegoo is a bad glue.) I just want to repair mine and have them repaired and not have to redo it over and over...
We weren't initially impressed with Shoegoo. But on accident we let a shoe cure 72 hours and the bond has lasted for years. Don't go by the tube instructions to only cure 24-48. I use E6000 for crafts with excellent results. I'm tempted to try it on shoes.
I have just repaired mine. After having 3 pairs ruined the same way I was determined to try to repair. I scraped out all of the excess, scrubbed the insides clean to remove any sticky residue. I bought a cheap pair of flip flops and cut it to size. They are heavenly again ( until I find a cobbler that can repair properly)
Great job brother. The purple made the hat pop. Perfect color for that hat. I also love working on hats and enjoyed watching someone else , thanks brother.
This is awesome, my repair guy just told me "nothing can be done" Same exact problem. Can I send mine to be fixed, or can you post where to get the materials (footbed and glue, plus the cleaner you used to wipe the old gunk out ? I could try it myself but would gladly pay someone for a job this good - any help appreciated !!
Great job, but your breath is uncomfortable, please take care of your health! Gran trabajo, pero su respiración es incómoda, por favor cuide de su salud!
