Why Afghanistan instead of Pakistan in t1 when holding Asia and IP war?? Could even grab Pakistan and SK at the same time to have immediate dom, and got the option to take India even after De-Sta put 2 in Thailand

I normally would have pitched BW to Ask Not in that spot with Flower Power active. Were you hoping to hold it through the reshuffle?
@guanghengwu6578
@guanghengwu6578 4 месяца назад
I want to hold UN t6 because of gunman. The remaining deck is blue. I agree that discarding Bw and fishing for something blue before reshuffle could be the most optimal play. But part of me was conservative. I think the board was in lead and I should up 10vps going into late war. Want to maintain the position and not going for variances.

Opposite side ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_kYkaku1u-k.htmlsi=J5-7tqeevy4VIeCt I think you could play T8 in a completely different way, maybe trying to take Japan (with USJ in hand) with China card, or playing USJ then CC if you want to space something else ; after my big blunder in HL. But maybe this blunder made you misplay ?...
@guanghengwu6578
@guanghengwu6578 5 месяцев назад
Yeah T8 I should consider playing China and space or hold US Japan. T3 Formosan setup two US Asia dom. Maybe I should space that. At the time I hold India and pak, but you succeeded the war twice.. One consideration is that even if I equalize Asia t8, I am still behind on the board (final scoring) after you equalize CA and SA, ditch Gunman perfectly on t7. I am thinking my only chance is war game or defcon. Therefore one big blunder I made was not eventing Fidel.
@guanghengwu6578
@guanghengwu6578 5 месяцев назад
If I knew you were holding Asia scoring t8, I think I would definitely take Japan. What I achieved in game: lost Mexico and vene anyway, lost Asia dom and a successful realignment away from potential Africa dom. Not ideal.

Hey Harry, thanks for uploading. at 52:55 I was thinking, since South America Scoring and Allende are coming next turn, it would be nice to get 2 into Peru, that way, if opponent draws both of those cards, you won't have to worry as much about being realigned out of Chile. So I was thinking with Flower Power I would go 1 Egypt, 2 Peru, and 1 Chile. Italy is a concern but who knows when Europe scoring will show up.
@guanghengwu6578
@guanghengwu6578 6 месяцев назад
Italy you are right, I was worried about Soc Gov, which had to be his only redraw since there were 16 or 17 in the draw pile. Very low Probability. ABM and VOA were in the draw pile. I am not sure about Peru. I think Two Chile and 1 egypt is forced. The last one I am not sure, could be Peru, italy, spain or japan....
@aunthemod
@aunthemod 6 месяцев назад
@@guanghengwu6578 I was just thinking if they headline Allende, and then coup, you may not have enough ops to repair Chile and take Peru, which means they will get to take Peru, and if your coup of it fails, you have to endure realigns. But if you take Peru outright, you can simply repair Chile.
@aunthemod
@aunthemod 7 месяцев назад
with defectors in hand, I think you wanna headline decolonization on T3. If opponent hadn't headlined Duck, then opponent could have entered Angola after the coup, and since they did headline duck, you would have been able to take Algeria outright, and would have had the option of cheeply flipping indonesia.

What a finish! Two things of note: Nixon was free after he plays china. I don't know if it's worth it to hold for your last play but something to consider (knowing he would play it). Also... My math might be off here, but suez threatens presenceless Middle east... if you remove two in isreal and two in france, he has to place into israel/iraq to prevent the break (and gives one more vp from france). Then his china can break one of cuba/poland but not both.

Thanks for sharing your game. around 17:30 you play Comecon for ops while Warsaw Pact is in your hand, I would play Warsaw pact before Comecon. In my opinion the soviet player can use Warsaw influence more flexibly after Comecon is evented, as opposed to before. I'm writing this comment prior to seeing the rest of the game, but I assume you will also play Warsaw later in turn 3. I'd be very interested if you have any thoughts on the matter, perhaps there is something I'm overlooking.

10:20 US T2-AR1: I like your move taking Angola and breaking Asia balance. Instead of Pakistan, N. Korea is also a good choice. It is almost sure that USSR would event K. war for Milops this turn, and if he wins, we temporerily lose access to N. Korea. Also, Pakistan is constantly under threat from China card flip and Brush and IP-war. N. Korea is more expensive but safer to be contested.
@tscheng516
@tscheng516 Год назад
Thx for sharing the game! Really nice moves and tactics. 0:02 USSR T1-HL: ME, EU scoring and Defectors unseen, Italy is over-protected, would Nasser be a safer HL? After we have seen US purged us in HL, I would consider eventing our red cards (namely SocGov, De Gaulle, Fidel). Then I might use US/J (coup Iran or Libya +2, S. Korea +1) in AR1. In later rounds, I might event SocGov (W. Germany -1, UK -2) to try to get a free SpecRel. Whenever US takes France, I would event De Gaulle and gain access to Algeria (for T2). AR6 play is definitely Containment and hold card 5YP.
@tscheng516
@tscheng516 Год назад
1:09 USSR T1-HL+AR1: we have a rare Decol+D&C+Asia combo. AR1 Asia scoring is solid, but I prefer Decol (Algeria +1, S. Africa +1, Thailand +1, Indonesia +1) in HL and D&C coup Iran in AR1. If the Iran coup succeeds, we threaten ME, Asia and EU at the same time! Defcon=3, so we can secure Thailand. If US dares to drop Defcon to 2, we can take Angola and Lebanon, else he suffers from -2/3 VP from Milops.
@tscheng516
@tscheng516 Год назад
15:32 US T1: very unusual T1 with Defcon 5, but really well played, especially the coup and realignment in SEA. 29:41 US T2-AR6: eventing SocGov is an empty AR. Since EU must be scored next turn, I would like to hold SocGov and space K-war. 32:27 US T3-HL: HL D&C is a 3VP gain. If USSR HL De Gaulle and takes France, we can event Marshall in AR1 and score EU with -1 VP in AR2. But if USSR could not redraw De Gaulle, we could still score EU with +5 VP and use Marshall as ops later. Hence I think HL D&C would maximize our average VP gain. 49:33 US T5-HL: theoretically, we could win this turn. HL submit +2VP, event Kitchen Debate +2VP and space +2VP. Finally IP-war with 1/3 chance to get +2 VP. In particular, we have a rare situation where we have +3 modifier on Submit, also if we win, we can set Defcon to 2 and protect Africa.

T2 ar6 Keeping KW just for Korea safety. But I should have space (for 2 vp) some player will just take 2 off W.Ger and 1 UK. Force me to repair. no Nigeria walk in that case. T3 HL I kind of want to make NATO a problem...but maybe I overlook it. I knew 5-6 cards in his hand. The possibility that he drew Nato was low. In his known card, Only NORAD was a 3ops, others are 2,1 or scoring. You can see I plan to jam N.K from the start of the turn. Duck also make nigeria walk pretty weak? But protect Panama is big. t3 ar2 ussr did not move into Panama was a blunder. t5 HL Oof HL summit was risky. Opponent can HL junta, downgrade Def and flip SA. Suddenly summit is a +1 bomb. at this point I think playing safe should be right. I am pretty sure that US should win the long game.

28:26 US T3-AR3: Would the move (S. Africa +2, Botswana +2) or (Tunisia +2, Sahara states +1, Botswana +1) lure USSR to coup? Then we can event both AI-war and K-war and have in total of 6 ops, while USSR “wasted” 2 ops to gain Milops. 31:51 US T4-HL: CMC is a cool HL protecting African BGs in AR1 and SA BGs after we event Puppet, also a punishment of USSR spending Fidel on SEA last turn. Grain Sales can be used later in the turn, especially after we event Ussuri and USSR is forced to play all his hands. 48:58 US T5-AR2: I would attack Asia with VoA (S. Korea -2, N. Korea -2). From Missile Envy, we know that USSR has no 4-ops cards, so he cannot overprotect both Korea again. Next turn we attack the unprotected Korea with the China card and we will have Asia domination thanks to Shuttle Diplomacy. If USSR repairs, we attack again with AfP. We will have tried our best and next round we just score Asia. We event OAS and Special later this turn and our hold cards this turn are of course OPEC and Destal. 1:00:51 US T6-AR1: I know Cultural is unseen, but VoA (Brazil -1, Iran -2, Iraq -1) seems to be a stronger play. 1:07:25 US T6-AR5: Fatal! We should take W. Germany with Submit first. Note that if USSR has Ops, he could take W. Germany and we would lose by EU control.

28:26 That s a good point. I kind of want to hold de-stal, since space wastes one op. If he delay the coup to last AR, then the plan does not work. so maybe go into sahara state better? With De-stal I lean toward not going into Columbia. 31:51 You are right, maybe CMC was a better HL. flower power costs me 4 vps later, which also crucial. 48:58 My thought process was to event AFP for max. Part of me just love to play into empty battleground and easy points. You are right. I knew he has not 4 ops and he probably has some problem cards to deal with. VOA produces very low value later. one of the worst VOA plays of all time probably lol. 1:00:51 I am just aftaid that he has the scoring. If VOA, he drops for +5. And VOA as back up for ABM was part of the plan. 1:07:25 I will prioritize space for 2 vps. Thinking War game is a big possibility.

Long time after this game was played, so I can’t recall what I was thinking at that time. I rewatch the game from t3, maybe one of my considerations was to take Asian dom back? But you are right, both South Africa and Panama were good realignment target. Remove any one of them would worth more than two ops. And my t4 hand was kind of crazy. Control two positive scorings, draw two powerful cards.

On t6, did you consider just letting him score africa and trying to realign venezuela right away? Even if he scores africa he still has to score SA for 10 for you, and you have double OPEC for the 20. I just feel like How I Learned was too slow (although obviously it feels like that when your coup failed). Great game. Says something about Mr Sazer he held on so long after your amazing early war...
@guanghengwu6578
@guanghengwu6578 2 года назад
Thank you Anton for your comment!! Yes I did consider that. My thought process was: (when gunman) My only playable cards were two ops. (still want to keep SALT) If go after Nigeria: 66%chance (roll a 3 or higher), save 4 vps(10 to 6) If go after Vene: I did not check the probability of 2ops realign 3inf with +1 modifier (it is 54.4%, At that point I thought Probability would be lower than that, around 40% something). Will gain 3 vps (assuming his OAS can gain him at least presence). Did not count for OPEC(mistake by me) So I went for Africa What happened in game: in USSR ar3, I forced myself to play SALT, which contradict to my thought process when Gunman. The reason being if he plays china here, at least I gain China card (probably 1.5-2vps) from it. After putting so much effort in Africa, I kind of go with my gut, which is bad. Maybe here the best play is actually realign Vene. in US ar3, he scored Africa, which I doubt. I think he should either score SA first or china take Nigeria. Africa, 6vps for him, won't change. USSR ar4, I fail to remove him from Vene. Even if I did success, he will OAS back into Vene or gain presence, I need one more ar, 2 ops to gain control. Not sure if I have the time and firepower. Saying that, going for Vene did free up 2-op(How I learn), which could be massive here. It may be a good discussion topic for the community. How will they play this turn with Gunman information?

Soviet T1 AR1: Italy, not Iran, would have been the correct target. The Soviet will get other shots at Iran and has Nasser, AIW, and setup influence in Syria and Iraq. The AR1 coup might be your only shot at Italy. The American Europe Scoring HL shows lack of confidence (for a good reason; that HL was correct) and is a signal to push Europe: ignore Iran, coup Italy, and pressure France. Achieving Soviet European domination even is worth a T1 American Middle East score (which, as players noted in the video, clearly isn't happening anyway or the American would have HL Middle East Scoring for +4 VP). The T1 DeStal into France, the appearance of De Gaulle on AR6, and the fact that the Soviet never put Italy (or France) in play after rejecting the T1 AR1 Italy coup for Iran, plus the outcome, all support this case. More straightforwardly, to HL SG to hit Italy and then coup Iran is just inconsistent.

The decision that give up EU completely was made when I realize even if I US/Japan jam France you still get a 6 points dom. I still need to put 3 more into France to take it, not solving dom in EU.
