Another 4" build but with heavier frame and more powerful motors . With molicel p42 21700 . Get good 20mins too and still a decent 140ish km/h top speed . It's the sweet spot .
crocodile baby with 1404 2900kv motors with 4x2.5 2blade props i get 20min with a 1300mah 3s lipo no acro. its slow and light perfect for my long range things. i have a 3s liion and 4s too but never tested them down to 3V. i would try to find the lipo sweetspot, its more fun with less weight, and more mah is always an option
Nice! l Love these custom li-ion batteries! I made a 4s 4200mah pack for my 5" race quad, and get 22-24 minutes consistently flying pretty normal (dji 2305 2400kv motor with snail 5048 props.) I don't go crazy hard, but wasn't easy on the battery either. My worst flight was about 18 minutes when I was trying to push it. You certainly felt the extra weight and were down to about 2/3 power, but the flight time was so nice! I also made a 4s 10,000mah battery for the drone, which was a brick, but I got 34 minutes without any modifications.
I'm using the same homemade packs on my flywoo explorer and they are working great! It's really nice to not be using lipo batteries that swell up no matter how well you treat them.
Hey the baby ape sacrificed it's analog camera for the long range build so I am buying a new one. It's a bit of a Frankenstein right now testing out a cheap vtx.
I'm starting to wonder if mounting the fpv antenna off of the nose and pointing it downward might be better for flying long range. That way nothing is blocking it while flying away or flying back home. It seems to work for my protocol antenna so why not the fpv one as well? 🤔
not sure if you know but carbon dust it worse than asbestos when sanding it creates microscopic hooks which get permanently lodged in your lungs. I was taught to wear a positive pressure mask when doing any carbon prep i was learning to make air-frame structures.
Awesome. Yes I think alot of people believe now that you may as well just build a 5 inch with a GPS but I really love the way this thing flies. And I just built a Li-ion pack and now this thing is the ultimate explorer with 1,8w vtx
Very nice build! I like you sharing your thoughts 😊 Almost all the time I'm doing the same: cheap parts on one side and expensive were it is needed. Flies great Your setup 😮😍
Thank you. Yes it flies well. These DarwinFPV motors are actually very good in the end. Tested it with my new Li-ion battery and it is doing a solid 20 mins but with no HD cam
I have the DarwinFPV FoldApe 4 which uses these motors. I get about 15 min flight time on a 3s 850 mah battery. The motors apparently are DJI motors actually just rebranded.
Hey man, I have heard that and it IS believable because I feel like I have seen these on a DJI drone before :-) And that's amazing flight times on the foldape! Can it carry a little HD cam?
Awesome videos buddy. I think I’ve watched all your fpv videos over the last two days!! I myself just got the baby ape pro v2 as well. I’ve only flown it on 2s and it’s tons of fun. I’m waiting to go to an open field to rip it on 3s. How long have you had the baby ape now? And is everything still working fine? I think you should really do a long term review of it since it seems like you have flown it for a while now. And your video style is really nice. I think I’m also on one of the WhatsApp groups with you, as I also know henno and a few of the other guys. Made 99% of my fpv purchases from there!
Hey man thank you. Ya the baby ape is still with me. I do think 3s tends to overload the motors, because I have had to replace a few but they are so cheap anyway. I think a long term review is a great idea.
I followed this tutorial by Joshua Bardwell. It's not one of his best but all the info is there m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a1_U2v0kAjg.html
I use the apex 4" as my long ranger . Actually it does everything . Heavier build but it's tough . Using bigger motors and 21700 li-ions it's 20min flyer with great top speeds too . ( around 140km/h on liions and 160kms on lipo )
Hi, I think you forgot the 50ohm SMA terminator, is that a silicone protector? I have that same antenna and can reach that range with 200mw or 400mw with full clear picture.
Nice build sir, i too am building a 4 inch long range drone from the frame up but i am using the flywoo Explorer LR 4 frame and I am going to be using Arducopter instead. Please make more videos about your long distance drone
Use both a patch and a lollipop antenna and use steadyview x on diversity. You will be impressed what the cobra x goggles can do. That’s what I use and at 400 mw I fly the largest part of my neighbourhood.
I was at the golden gate in the free state after Clarens the other day and the scenery was beating beautiful. Something like this video and I can assure you I’m going back there for some fpv exploring. Thanks for sharing man.
Hey man. I used the runcam thumb mount for my V1 but there are actually plenty of mounts for the v2 you just need to search through all the 3d printing websites.
Hey man I'm getting a much cleaner signal and less breakup in general. Well worth it. Check out the hglrc 800mw vtx. It's got some mounting hole optons
Your video signal? You're either struggling with wrong settings in Betaflight (make sure you're not set to 25mw) or your VTx is soldered correctly or there's something wrong with your antenna.
@@flippingfpv Every experiment on this subject appears to contradict the theory that ducted fans improve trust. Turbo prop engines exist for this very resson. Turbo fans are for the perpose of delivering more oxygen to the combustion chamber not efficiency of the fan blades.
@@Hotwire_RCTrixIts called fluid dynamics buddy, proper ducts do in fact direct the air flow straight down vs the more scattered fliw with open props. This does in fact increase the amount of thrust created by the motors, not at all like a turbofan you are describing.
@@Hotwire_RCTrixI would like to see what experiments you found that contradict the fluid dynamic properties that computer analysis has shown to occur with ducted props… www.icas.org/ICAS_ARCHIVE/ICAS2014/data/papers/2014_0072_paper.pdf
@@flippingfpv It's certainly not a GoPro, but it's enough for my needs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JLB0-BKAkK0.htmlsi=iBn27EiNWYNBgaYJ
Hey yes! Exactly. And all this about digital being cheap now is also nonsense. A digital equivalent is still double the price. So I'm with digital for a while longer I think.
No definitely not. I know alot of videos show it doing that but it will (a) drop your battery life to a very low time and (b) will put alot of stress on this budget quadcopter.
