Back when they had other Federation s not just WWF there was World Class, NWA, AWA and it came on weekends and there was month's between each pay per view not each month where you had the ESPN 4:00 wrestling show after school and you had to choose between pro wrestling or afternoon cartoon s
THE TIME WHEN THE NWA AND THE AWA WERE ON TOP OF THERE GAME AND EACH MAKING ALOT OF MONEY IN HOUSE SHOWS, VIDEO TAPE AND DVD SALES, AND WRESTLING MERCHANDISE LIKE TOYS, FIGURES AND CLOTHING. HAD THEY JUST WATCHED THERE OWN TERRITORIES, AND CHANGED WITH THE TIMES THEY WOULD HAVE GIVEN VINCE MCMAHON A TRUE FIGHT.
My favorite 80s wrestling gimmick: 1. Face Paint 2. Steroids 3. Rock Music 4. No Sell The basic formula for Road Warriors, Ultimate Warrior, Demolition, Powers of Pain, Sting
This was a big deal for the NWA/AWA at that time. To go into Vince's backyard like this and try to sell out the Meadowlands (which was 2nd only to Madison Square Garden to Vince) was an aggressive move and you can tell they tried to put every big name from both organizations on the card. Being from NJ, I used to attend all the shows at the Meadowlands (WWF as well as the occasion NWA show). What was fun was watching the NY/NJ reaction to the Road Warriors, who even when they were heels, would get the biggest pops of the night. They would come out to Black Sabbath's Iron Man, and the stadium would just go nuts.
this looked like a panic after the success of wrestlemania one. the others were bound to lose because they werent as evil as vince mcmahon. vince mcmahon is an evil demon from hell...and he likes to be that. he doesn't consider it an insult.
Who's the chick in the polar bear fur coat? Is that Precious? Also, is that Meltzer sitting in the front row? Apter is pretty prominent at ringside too
WWE!!!! You should takes notes!!! A blast from the pass. It dont have to be extremely bright lights etc.. on every single major event, bring back some of the old you see how this card started out with the dim lights etc.. dam I miss the glory years of wrestling. Can I get an Amen from someone please lol. This wrestling today is strictly garbage no disrespect to any of the wrestlers. Its just what it is
In 1984 JJ Dillon was actually the last NWA wrestler to wrestle on a WWF card in Madison Square Garden before Vince McMahon broke all ties with the NWA territories due to his national expansion.
Isn't it weird how promotions never bothered pushing the merch back then? I mean, I bought a Road Warriors tshirt at the matches during this run, but nobody wore anything special to the arena. I guess other pro sports were like this too. . .
I was not very impressed with this garden. I've seen better gardens. They charge you 30 dollars per person and then charge 11 dollars for parking. Atlanta is a rip off.
@@user-is1er1gp6d Duke gardens and Airlie gardens are my favorite. Duke gardens is free to the public. You just have to pay for parking which is 2 dollars.
I was there that night, I COULDNT BELIEVE Stan won! Of course, the view is better on YT ( I was far away 😆) but man, it was a good night but even then I knew the NWA/AWA was losing to Vince…badly. 😞
Martel was a classy AWA champ. But boy, he really was selling the back injury from the beginning. Later the Boston crab became his finisher, as if to make up for this loss.
