Ah mate watching you catch the squid makes me super jealous! Before I came to Australia I had two things I really wanted to catch, a chonk of a snapper and a squid. I have been here for a year now and caught neither. Do you think some of the spots you are catching them are reachable in a kayak? I have a pretty big Hobie pedal yak and I know this is the time of year to get on them.
Fantastic videos Peter…been here in manly visiting family and taking grandson out in their 5 meter boat thanks to you and your enthusiasm….met the guys at Mossops who sorted me out with the Biwaa curly tails and mounted them properly. Final trip out last night with the lad …Green island….magic for that one hour sunset…best snapper 64cm…on 10lb leader and light braid…rod bent in half!…all released back for another day….back in September!
First video I've ever watched on your channel. But I'm in port Stephens NSW, and I'm moving up to the gold Coast probably the end of the year. I've been fishing all my life but never fished the water up in QLD. My dad really wants to fish the jumpinpin. We are going to be fishing landbased, is there any spots, lures, bait etc that you would recommend. Cheers I subbed aswell 👌🏼
@@ch4rl13s_f1sh1ng cheers for the sun mate! I’ve got a few vids from Jumpinpin/Broadwater now. I’m a boat fisher so not many land based tips for you other than there’s a bit of access near the boat ramps at jacobs well and cabbage tree.
@@iand2206 absolutely love the combo mate. 6’5” was just so light in the hand!! Plan to use in the canoe or yak in the future but yeah the 6’9” probably as good if not better in the boat.
@@ogseshsquatch3094 cheers mate 🙌 Was a bit worried for this week as I had a very slow start in an area I hadn’t been to for awhile but the fish gods came good for me 😍.
@@JP-cy4uk it can be mate. Port can be a on/off area for me tbh. I love it when the big school of Jew is hanging along the docks. I’m probably due for a fish there I recon.
Yeah nice. We fish 10lb as well. Wasnt sure if you upped it to 16 or 20lb. Definitely more nibs on the light stuff. Good work on the catch and release. Sets a good example to everone that follows.
I don’t know why people complain when you fish fly. I do all kinds of fishing and fly is definitely the most fun. You can tell you have been fishing salt fly for a while with your haul action.
Great video as always mate. I don’t really o is the bay very well but the area you were fishing looks fairly sheltered. Do you recon you could get there on a pedal kayak or is it a bit far out?
@@ArbyCreations cheers mate 🙌. Certainly possible, bit of a trek but doable. 1st spot is sharky in the warmer months and you couldn’t pay me to be there in a kayak but this time of year is a lot better imo.
Hey Peter new to your channel awesome videos. I just got a Calcutta conquest bfs. The Dobyns rod looks good. Are you happy with the 6’5”? I did see can get in 6’9 and 7’. I fish out a kayak so thinking 7’ might be too long.
@@jacobbanks9870 cheers mate and welcome! Was unsure about the length myself as I’m used to longer rods these days. The 6’5” is silly light in the hand and have plans for some structure fishing with it in the future. Either that or the 6’9” I recon mate. Really enjoying both the rod and the reel. Wicked combo 😍.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing cool thanks for the reply. I will be doing some structure fishing like in the trees at hinze. And want to chase flathead and Jew too.
Hi Peter, I have to say awesome video as always….may I ask your opinion on Lowrance, Garmin, simrad verse’s your amazingly clear hummingbird. I’ve got a hds 7 with a 3 in 1 transducer I’m new to this any help would be awesome Cheers mate
@@scotthumpries-norton3942 thanks mate 🙏. There is something slowly happening in the background with sounders and I will be going through a bit in a video. Might be a little while off but I hope to do more stuff with sounders. Fishing tackle is my specialty tbh but obviously I’m a big user of sounders.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing cheers mate I checked out the sounder your using and I couldn’t believe how clear it was, im an interstate driver so I only get maybe 1-2 days a month to get out and travel 2 hrs to the water lol so yeah mate keep all of your informational videos on tips and tricks coming. P.S cheers for not hiding your back ground area 👍
@Peter_Herbst_Fishing Peter reckon you are right for very shallow and scanning out wide, but the Garmin GT56 with an 8 series GPSMap is the bomb for slightly deeper and deeper Bay waters. Cheers
I have a Shimano Stile and was not that keen on fishing plastics with lighter jigheads ie 1/4oz until i matched it to a 7 foot Samaki, it has the same action as the rods i use on my spinning outfits and is great to use..
Another awesome clip Pete, shows the new Dobyns rods off well, I'm definitely keen to get into the light gear on barra and that also. Thanks for sharing
Hey mate, went the XG. Went pe #1 and not sure how much. Not a lot 🤣🤣🤣. Might drop down to pe #.6 in amz 4strand as I find 4 strand is better on baitcast reels.
