Hey Echo, I just found your channel and I am Canadian, too! Why did you stop making nail videos? I am enjoying your content now that I have found it looking for sharpie nail art (I am very late to this trend). I was wondering if you ever visit Aliexpress for decorations for nails or glitter.
@echomckelvie
@echomckelvie 4 года назад
Hi Michael, life got a little busy so I haven't had time to make anymore videos 😔 I have not used aliexpress yet, was going to try them for packaging though for my soap business but haven't been brave enough to do so lol
@michaelwilton4545
@michaelwilton4545 4 года назад
@@echomckelvie I hope busy in a good way. Thank you for replying and for leaving the content you made up. The one thing with Aliexpress is that their shipping times are soooooo long. However, for things like rhinestones or nail sequins that are things you need on an ongoing basis they are pretty good, their selection is vast and the prices are good. Also, for the uv/led lamps you find the same ones on Amazon for more than double. So, I guess it really depends on what you need and when you need it and whether you think the product you is reliable and safe from that seller. I mean, for instance, that at first I was very dubious about gel nail polish, but then after two or three years and international selling you see them same seller and people on RU-vid and other places using them you have to think those brand are not causing people harm. Sorry, I'm rambling now. Good luck with everything you have going on.

@echomckelvie

It depends on the fragrance itself. I have soap that I made 3 years ago that smell like it was made yesterday. With that being said I have had some where the sent has faded in no time and some that developed dos.

Amazing How did you manage to spread it so evenly??
@echomckelvie
@echomckelvie 4 года назад
The first one I didn't spread it very well lol. I used an old rewards card to work with the silicone. I used painters tape to mark off the areas that I didn't want silicone on. I am still using that mold, the small cheap hinges are falling apart but the rest is still in perfect condition. Next one is going to be better wood and piano hinges to make it stronger and more even.

@echomckelvie

No peeling at all! It's stuck on so good! I think because the wood is porus it allows it to stick so well. Once I get it made I will do a video. Its my shops busy season right now so hopefully will get it built soon.

I am new to soapmaking and took a class where the teacher had us use the heat transfer method. Thank you for demonstrating it. My question is, what is the type/brand of red pouring/mixing bowls you are using? What are they made of? I haven't bought my own supplies yet and any advice is welcome.

Hi, I live in small town in Alberta, and it's to hard to find some product for the gel manicure, where I can buy the glitter and is it have to be gel glitter? Thanks
@echomckelvie

You can use some craft glitter, as long as it's solvent resistant it will work just fine. I'm in small town rural Alberta too 😊 Sandy is in the US but her glitter is amazing and inexpensive. You can find her on Facebook.

hi echo i've used your method twice already but only made 3 batches so one melting in microwave my question is what difference does it make in the soap if any? thank you this makes it so much easier
@echomckelvie
@echomckelvie 5 лет назад
Hi Ruth, it doesn't make any difference to the soap at all. It just drastically cuts down the prep time 😊 so instead of waiting for everything to cool and trying to time your soap making, you can just get right to it. Very little waiting 😊

That would be personal preference, I don't personally only because it doesn't matter to me if it goes full gel or not. You could for sure but use caution if using milk or high sugar additives so it doesn't over heat 😊

@echomckelvie
@echomckelvie 6 лет назад
Hi Gloria :) I don't use a heat gun for this method, just the hot lye water that will melt the solid oils and butters and then the liquid ones will cool them to bring them do a very versatile temperature. I use a kitchen aid stick blender and also have a Cuisinart one as well.

Time is really the only advantage, this way I don't have to wait for the melted oils and lye water to cool. It's just super quick! Because I live in a cold climate, I add my liquid oils last or they won't all melt lol

Excellent!! Great idea! How'd you get the silicone so smooth? I love tall and skinny. I was cutting. 1" but it doesn't seem thick enough. Have you thought of slide locks for the ends? Mine work great. I also have Velcro ones that work really well. Hugz, Tree
@echomckelvie
@echomckelvie 6 лет назад
Its not that smooth lol I bought a plastic drywall scraper so hopefully it will go on smooth. The ends and bottom are smooth but the sides are a bit more textured because the gift card I was using was not quite big enough. I thought about the slide locks but was worried it wouldn't seal well enough. The velcro is a good idea though :)

Did you add anything to the water?

@echomckelvie 8 лет назад
I had a small amount of honey mixed into 2oz of water (Dipped a teaspoon into liquid honey, pulled it straight out and cleaned the back off. Just what was left on the front of the spoon is what I used) that I added in the end as well as the honey at the start. Adding just water without some form of sugar added will not give the same fluid texture. If you made a simple syrup, I am thinking 3 oz at the end may work, I will have to try it this weekend and see what happens.
